It's sometimes hard to get your full point across in a reaction video when you try to capture your genuine, honest first thoughts about the song/band in question. With that being said, just from this song, I can tell Nightwish is a great band. When I say I expect all their songs to "sound like this one", I mean in regards to energy and overall feel (energetic, fun, melodic, epic, all wrapped up into one). I can definitely appreciate variety, and I will continue to check out Nightwish! Thank you guys for all the comments and suggestions!

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air (Germany) in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Following the success of Beste Zangers show, Floor performed a series of solo concerts in the Netherlands in early 2020 with songs from her entire career (After Forever, Revamp, Northward, Nightwish, Beste Zangers) following that the last and the largest concert, at AFAS Amsterdam, to be professionally recorded and broadcast online, with the support of a crowdfunding campaign. After several rescheduling, due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, the concert took place at the beginning of September 2021 in 3 consecutive days. Nightwish is the greatest band I have ever come across. Their catalogue covers the whole spectrum of styles. In my opinion, Tuomas Holopainen on keys is the greatest composer of our times..and the lyrics hit so deep. Pure magic every time!

Because you were listening to some heavier style music, I recommended this song, but I must have mentioned that none of their songs are alike. Just wait until you check out more of their music and let them surprise you. Because they will surprise you; expect the unexpected is a good way to describe their discography! I was in your camp until I heard more of NIghtwish, now I listen to them all the time. They are classified as symphonic metal, but none of their songs are the same. One word to describe most of their music: epic.

Not all their songs sound like Romanticide. In fact, every Nightwish song is different and does not conform to a formula. You never know what's coming next. They go light, medium and heavy. I'm sure that there are many songs in their playlist that you would enjoy. I don't know what to recommend because I don't know what your tastes are. Anyway, nice reaction. I like the way your eyes lit up when Floor slid up to that D6 with the greatest of ease. She tops out at F6. This band has world-class musicians, singer and composer. 😊🤘

Live videos are the way to go with Nightwish and stay with this concert , its epic......although they sound great live at all there shows but Wacken 2013 is Special .
Youll find out in your journey that no 2 songs sound the same but it always sounds like Nightwish , as far as the lead singer , it doesnt get better than her , this was just a little taste of what she can do vocally ....which is EVERYTHING and ANYTHING ......great reaction .....subbed and liked .

Yes that was high at the end. D6 if I'm not mistaken. Yes all songs have the same level of energy but not all thrashy, some are melodic and some are epic.
Originally Floor was sent by Allfather Odhinn to Midgard to gather the souls of fallen warriors to Valhalla, but she
got distracted and joined a series of bands. However, Floor still gathers souls by her grace, beauty and the sheer power
of her vocals.
We give thanks for her at our Blots regularly and hope that Odhinn won't notice that she has never returned to Asgard.

It is not all like this song. They have a lot of variety. If you watch the whole Wacken concert you will understand. Try listen to a sing like Ever Dream, Ghost Love Score, Song of myself, Ghost River, Amaranth, Nemo or I want my tears back. Probably you will like Ever Dream to listen to in your car.

One of their heavier songs, but they’re definitely not a typical power metal band by any means. They are more “groovy” than “fast”. They are indeed epic and symphonic. Maybe if you do another, Ghost Love Score or Storytime from this same live show.

Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of the presents she left on her channel. Floorgasm alert! Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughter Freja (turns 5 years next march), a horse and pony, a dog and a bunch of cats, she found this.
Nightwish doesn't easily fit in a genre and they're definitely not a power metal band, though some of their songs do fit in that genre. Nominally they're symphonic metal, but listen to five Nightwish songs in isolation and you would put them into five different genres. They even have jazz song in their catalogue. These days it's typical to read that Nightwish is its own genre.
Gabriel will be along shortly to provide a long list of links if you want to continue with Nightwish. They've been around since 1996 and have had three lead singers (the singer in this song is the current one) so there's no lack of choice.

LOL Nightwish is basically their own genre that touches on multiple genres so you might want to reserve judgement. I am with you on this track at least, I was never a big metal guy growing up and this song was way out of my comfort zone for a long time. It's is not a playlist track for me but I've watched and enjoyed it probably more than a dozen times. Looking forward to your next NW reaction and as others have suggested, Ever Dream, Story Time, Amaranth, Nemo, Elan etc would probably be considered more "radio friendly"...but still epic! Cheers!

The “scream” at the end is called a glissando, going from low to high and back, for classical trained singers this is an exercise to warm up the vocal cords, so Floor will do this probably every day before breakfast

The lineup you just witnessed is an incredible group of top tier musicians and performers.
It's easy to mistake them for power metal... but that's only one of the flavors you'll enjoy.
The lead vocalist is the Valkyrie Goddess, Floor Jansen (pronounced Yan sen), a Dutch export to the metal scene.
IMO, the performance you witnessed is NOT their best track...
You'll be pleased to learn that this is the least appealing song of the set.
But the entire 15 song setlist from this headlining act is superior to just about every other 'live' event, period.
The production, the performance and the engineering are simply SUPERIOR.
It's hard to quantify. Some call it magic. Some "Lightning in a bottle", something that happens only once in a generation.
Whatever it is...is indescribable.
It simply is the best performance captured on video.
But don't take my word for it...

7:40 I agree that bands like Nightwish and Wintersun are best experienced with full focus and with adequate audio gear. If you play this kind of music from smartphone speakers while cooking, it's not going to sound good.

Great reaction. Nightwish's songs are really varied. They go from heavier tracks like this one, through to ballads and folk-influenced songs. As you liked this song, I think you'll also like these other ones from the heavier end of the Nightwish spectrum: Dark Chest of Wonders, Yours is an Empty Hope, Tribal, Planet Hell and Master Passion Greed.
