Honestly Gerard is one of the coolest people in music. His influence goes from punk rock to queen and david bowie. Writes comic books for a living, has a hit Netflix TV show and then just randomly guest screams in Matt's song. Dude just does whatever he wants

if you listen to their first album they have quite a bit of screaming in their, not like the stuff in this new project but i knew gerard way was capable

I Never Told You What I Do For A Living definitely has its high point with "I TRIIIIEEEEDD!!!!!!" God. I'm desperately hoping MCR's upcoming album (fingers crossed!) is gonna feature more screaming vocals.

As a huge MCR fan I can say yes he used to scream but it was never this technically good like it sounded good but this is a different beast

Not just that, I think he's worked on his technique, he used to screw his voice up loads around TBP time or so, so very glad to see what's come from nearly 15 years!
He’s actually got a great black metal scream. As a fan of MCR and Black Metal this is wild.
I knew Gerard could scream, since he screams in quite a few of his not-so-mainstream songs, but this still took me as a big surprise! He went full black metal! I am shook! and not to mention impressed! Never in a million years would I have thought that black metal Gerard Way would ever be a thing but I'm glad it is!
Gerard has always screamed, he did it on the first MCR album quite a bit. Just not on their most popular stuff for obvious reasons.
lot of those singers from that era of 30 seconds to mars, MCR etc did screams and you just add some more edge to them and you get black metal vocals so its not surprising they can do it

As someone who's heard the first MCR album, and later songs like Hang Em High, and Sleep, it wasn't much of a surprise since the early MCR material has shit tons of screaming.

As someone who grew up during MCRs Bullets phase it wasn’t a surprise, you’d probably like some of the stuff from there actually man.

Yeah Gerard way has always screamed but never to the same extent as he did in this song. I'm actually so glad we got a song like this out of him cos he was actually super talented and it's nice to hear his voice being used for much heavier tracks
Ishahn is one of the great Black Metal artists with lots of influence in many sphere's so to me this just looks like evolution in action. Looking forward to this new project and future releases.

Listen to the album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love (if you haven't already). There's some of Gerard screaming in there (obviously not as harshly lol) but it's a beautiful album that doesn't get enough attention. Ronin is now one of my favorite songs!

I don't understand how everybody, including Nik, is so shocked. If anybody actually listened to MCRs old stuff you would know Gerard has been able to scream like this since the beginning. Their first album is so heavy and full of it. Even Three Cheers has a lot of the heavier side and screams of MCR.
To be fair probably alot of the metal community may have dismissed that album and or never paid much attention to mcr minus the mainstream stuff

Gerard is my favorite male singer, he’s versatile and loves all ranges of rock. I have met him a few times and he’s a sweet heart. Maybe if MCR is going to release a new album, there will be more screaming. In brace old MCR more. REVENGE baby!

yes we know gerard has always had the ability to do these vocals but to push it to this limit is something we haven't seen before. those screams could easily translate to reflection's the color clear album.
This song is so good. Glad you checked it out! Not a fan of MCR, but Gerard was so good in this track! Plus, Ihsahn's solo is amazing! Ihsahn's solo project got me into black metal. Still not a black metal fan though. Can't wait for this album!

I literally just found out that the vocalist of My chemical romance did vocals on the song. Never thought he would do black metal stuff because he's pop punk. Matter a fact My chemical romances new album should be the start of the genre blackend punk. Blackend punk is a fusion of black metal and pop punk. This genre was created by the lead singer of My chemical romance ever since he did black metal vocals for Matt Hefeys blackened metalcore side project.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if this is actually melodic death metal blended with progressive metal and metalcore, rather than some sort of black metal.
Black metal is usually "lofi" and doesn't have any clean vocals, doesn't it? I haven't heard a lot of black metal or its subgernes, but I think of early Tiamat and some Lorna Shore songs when you say "black metal" or "blackened [genre]".

I can’t say this is like proper black metal though. Not a specialist in the genre but I’d say it’s something with elements of black metal rather than straight black metal.
I’d put it squarely in “Blackened Prog” if there was such a thing. It’s a little funky, a little groove, a whole lotta technique, a couple chunky breakdowns, dream-state cleans, and a whole lot of black metal style screams.
