so i have recently upgraded my sunsun hob 500 t0 sunsun 303b canister filter.
and wow this affordable yet strong flow filter is perfect my 60x40x40cm tank.
the flow rate is 1000 liters per hour.
with 3 filter trays enough for your biological, mechanical and even chemical filtration media if needed.
it comes with two types of outlet nuzzle, spray type and directional nuzzle.
also this filter comes with a UV light to ensure those bad algae and cloudy water avoided.
    media used on this filter:
    lava rocks
    seachem matrix
    ceramic bioballs

Just seen this only now... This will work, but you will get a lot more efficient and effective if you gradually filter the muck out as other comments below state... you are not doing this...
I use: Corse sponge on Intake as pre-filter, Medium + Fine + pad in first tray and rest of trays are only different type of media. This allows a lot more time between maintenance and less of pads to throw out each time saving you money as sponges would be reused...
Rinsing Corse sponge from intake pipe every time wife needs to water plants and touching the filter 2x per year, but that is too much already...

      You are absolutely right.

I see you, @@balonggit, did use a bit of cores sponge in in the intake. I have a larger one that go over the pipe, but idea similar. still would replace some of pads in first try with sponges (if you have not done it already).

Technically order is mechanical (pads) biological ( lava rocks) and lastly chemical ( purigen, matrix, or carbon ) gunk needs to be caught at the bottom and should use course very bottom then medium then fine. Water then goes through biological and lastly the top chemical to your pump and out to your tank.
    Watch PONDGURU great explanations.

@@hakman239 yes your right.. and thats the same pattern im using.. i just added a disposable floss on the first tray so my medias wont get gunky.. and when it comes to maintenance il throw the flow and replace it with new one. il know which tray and no need to disturb or rearrange the precious medias on the other trays.

@@balonggit in the vid you had 3 layers of floss in the first tray

    • @balonggit
      @balonggit  Před 3 lety

@@hakman239 no. from bottom, it floss then top with few lava..nex tray thin layer of floss then lava.. last tray thin layer of floss then matrix then cover with stock white sponge. with this you can protect your medias from gunking and long life impeller.
