(A Lonely) Knave | Ep. 12 | BAD TIME FOR A PLAGUE | Solo TTRPG OSR Zero Prep Random Table Campaign

- Overthinking is the curse of the solo role-player, so what better way to break the habit than to launch right into the middle of the action - no preparation, worldbuilding or prior thought required.
We use Knave, its solo supplement A Lonely Knave and a host of other random table heavy books - mostly centered around the OSR sphere - to go back to basics and embrace the spirit of letting the dice take the lead.
This approach works well with systems like Knave, original (A)D&D or the various B/X clones (e.g. Swords & Wizardry, Old School Essentials, etc.).
All you need on top of that is some way to emulate a DM (e.g. Mythic Emulator, A Lonely Knave, Solo Adventurers Toolbox), some kind of bestiary to draw monsters and the occasional random encounter table from and you're off to the races.

They're a fun bunch to play around with! The complete blank slate start for this series made for some interesting results so far.
Finally caught up. This was another great chapter, and a good conclusion to the arc. You may be right for the typical viewer about long playlists, but I for one love them. A long list means I have more content to enjoy. But maybe I am just odd that way.
It's a weird quirk of CZcams that it generally gears its systems towards punishing you for serialized content and rewards you for constantly starting up something new. I'm not too hung up on optimizing that aspect to the fullest anyway, just trying to find the sweet spot between making the stuff I want to make and making sure it's getting the best possible exposure so people can actually find it, since I don't really advertise my stuff.
@@killtenratsrpg It seems almost like modern comic-books, where they restart the numbering at issue 1 every couple of years. This drives me nuts, but people won't start a series on issue 37 or something the way we did back when I was a kid, so they have to keep renumbering them.

I imagine part of the reason Arsi was fine following Marius was that he read his mind and didn't find any bad intentions (towards him) there. Overall, great series! Interested in seeing what comes next.
I considered it but overall leaned against the mind read as a factor here. If I read the situation purely like a player at a table would, with all the hints of demonic activity and madness floating around, I’d imagine Arsi probably caught a fairy hefty dose of something very unpleasant when the summoning happened that either shut down that mental conduit (temporarily) or exerted a lot of willpower to shut it down consciously. It just feels like attempting any kind of mental link right now, in the direct presence of Brimgore, could end up pretty badly. But a superficial flicker to catch hostile intention, sure… that might work. He did catch on that Marius isn’t a guard pretty quickly after all, so that might well have been supported by a mental impression, perhaps not even fully conscious. Makes sense!
