  • In this episode of Kitty Talks Dogs we have Poppy the West Highland White Terriër. Poppy is a 7-year old bitch, bred by Mich Dale and the owner is Lisette De Cauwer. Because she is an older dog she will get a senior strip but still according to the Westy breed standard! Watch this video to learn all about how to style, groom and strip a West Highland White Terriër the correct way!

  • @mathildedorothea5032
    @mathildedorothea5032 Před 3 lety +2

    I have been trained to not bathe 2 weeks before or after the stripping is done. We dont bathe right before beause the pores will close up and make it harder to strip and harder to get a grip on the hairs. Also we dont want to wash the dog right after a bathe again because the pores are open and we dont want to have shampoo and stuff before the skin has calmed down abit.
    What is your take on this? I was curious since you wash the dog right before you strip it but you seem to not wash her back, wich is where she is stripped the most !
    Thank you for these high quality videos of CORRECT grooms for all the different breeds! Its so interesting and inspiring to watch!

    • @kittydekeersgieter
      @kittydekeersgieter Před 3 lety +2

      Hello Mathilde, thank you so much, I am happy that you like my videos , the things I say are the way it works for me and many breeders. If you only strip the coat every 3 months you have to strip so much coat and yes because the pores are open we usually don’t advise to wash or if it must be washed we use a very mild shampoo like certified organic with no lorate sulfate. most shampoos are made with lorate sulfate though. I have learnt to prepare show dogs where every detail and every hair is important that by washing the longer coat (not the back) with a good shampoo and even special conditioner that’s giving moisture and doesn’t make the coat soft we had the most succes styling and with winning titels. The secret is having your customers regularly coming in like every 4 or 6 weeks and using a chalkpowder or even easier a good chalk block to get the grip before you start stripping if you have washed the furnishings. I hope,this helped. I have written a big blog on stripping if you like to see it’s on our webpage www.transgroom.com thanks again stay safe 😍

    • @mathildedorothea5032
      @mathildedorothea5032 Před 3 lety +1

      @@kittydekeersgieter Thank you for the thorough answer! Yes we mostly have our customers coming in every 3 months becuase none of them are show dogs. We have only one show dog that we have groomed and its a standard schnauzer, and then she would come in very often right before the show.
      We do use chalk when we strip, always, and we only use our hands usually to strip to make it as comfortable for the dog as possible when we have to do the big complete strip that we usually have to do every three months.
      We focus on making the dogs as correct and close to the breed standard as possible but its not so easy when we only see them every 3 months. But we maintain the good wirey coat and the comfort for the dog, and thats the most important part! I will remember it for the future dogs that want to keep their dog in show condition all the time! THanks!
