  • Gabrielle Bernstein’s book, “The Judgment Detox,” couldn’t have come at a better time. In the middle of a cultural crisis of division, separation, and judgment, she shows us how (and why) we can stop judging ourselves and others so harshly.
    In this interview, Gabby shares what judgment really is, why we do it, and the profound toll it takes on our psyche and on our lives. She shares her process to release judgment, plus three steps to achieve a vital and difficult part of that process - forgiveness.
    Gabrielle Bernstein is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of “The Universe Has Your Back,” “Miracles Now,” “May Cause Miracles,” “Add More ~Ing to Your Life,” “Spirit Junkie,” and “The Judgment Detox.” She was featured on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday as a next-generation thought leader, and the New York Times named her as a new role model. Gabby leads talks and meditations for sold-out audiences around the world.
    If you find yourself addicted to judgment - like many of us are - you’ve got to watch this interview to learn how to reconnect with yourself and the people around you by letting go of that harmful addiction.

    This connected with me so deeply. I am a muslim woman who made a choice to fully veil myself. It was a decision I made myself and 7 years later, I have no regrets. In the beginning, 99% of my family judged me and said mean things to me for choosing to cover myself. I constantly felt judged by people outside through the way the look at me, the things they say... In my soul, I knew this was what I wanted and I felt good inside. But my mind was in a battle because people were so mean to me. It used to get to me but in my 2nd year of wearing it, I found my strength. I begin to understand things in a better and broader light - that not everyone understands or sees things the same way because not everyone has the same experience in life. I used to wear dresses and short skirts before and then gradually started dressing in clothes that covered me more and eventually chose to cover completely. So I understand both lives. Whenever someone looks at me in a strange or fearful way, I choose to show kindness and compassion. I would smile and make a conversation or hold the door for them or make space for them to sit... I try to find a way to make a small connection so that they don't leave my presence with a continued sense of disconnect from me or fear of women like me just because I choose to cover my body. It's not easy but I have peace in my heart and soul with the choice I made.
    In today's world where muslims are constantly being judged and attacked, I just want to say to everyone who might read this and has a 'fear' or dislike of muslims - please choose again. Choose to interact rather than disconnect. Choose to understand rather than judge the entire muslim population and Islam based on what the media highlights about us.

    Reading this now and I love this book 😊❤️ one thing I have noticed is that identifying my judgements and gossip habits. It really makes me rethink before I speak. I find myself loving and accepting people more, which allows me to understand them better. It has forced me to look at my dark side, and let me tell you it was not easy. In the process I have learned not to judge or criticize myself and others. Rather to be more understanding and work through my issues.

I cried throughout most of the interview, what I took away is what we miss out on when we’re unwilling to let go of our judgement... and also that I don’t have to be perfect. I beat myself up every day in my spiritual practice. I’m an aspiring speaker & hoping to teach A Course In Miracles one day, just like Gabby. And I also struggle with judgement towards myself and others. Thank you both for showing me that I don’t have to be perfect & that I can always choose again. A few months ago I noticed I'd become very judgemental to strangers, people I meet on the street and etc. I would instantly think of something bad about them and judge them for it in my mind, and most of the things I judged them on were just assumptions, not even real things.
    I made a note to myself to tell myself to stop doing that, and to remind that to myself every time I get a judgy thought. A few months later I can proudly say I am significantly less judgemental, but there is still a way to go!

    This interview is ever so timely for me. Forgiveness could even be my word for 2018. I have come to that place in my spiritual development where I know it is time to let it go. It is time to heal. I LOVE that Gabby starts the book off admitting that she judges. That admission is the first and most vital step in recovery. If we blindly delude ourselves into believing we do not judge like other people do, we will continue to separate ourselves from the world ands our whole selves. We cannot teach that which we do not know anything about. And it IS (for me) all about healing those deep-seated wounds. Gabby...right on sister. Thank you and I will be getting this book.

  • @jeanwangg

    i do think it's really all a matter of perspective. judgement isn't always necessarily "bad" or negative. I think of it as thoughts we are constantly having about something, someone, or some interaction. I would constantly judge my work or others whether I liked it or not. If we didn't have judgements, would we not have opinions? part of the beauty of being human is because we have all this complexity with our minds and thoughts - trying to put negativity on any part of that gets overwhelming.

    I’ve had this on my watch later list: “perfect timing now of course” 😉
    If you’re judging, you’re cutting off your faucet.......all that the universe wants to flow into/through you.
    That quote was BOOM! Aha! That’s it! To me- that made it all clear- “linear”. I consistently ask the universe for signs and guidance and allow space to receive them- yet- my abundance of judgement will cut that flow off.

My biggest take away from this video is the fact of the importance of becoming aware of my judgments and disconnecting from them to be able to step back into alignment with source. Of the many many tools to awakening and aligning it is really cool to learn how releasing judgement can be so important as well. I have already started observing my judgemental thoughts and stopping my belief in them. To choose compassion over judgement.🙏🙌💎😍

    Good content. I struggle with this. I start the morning positive and say I am not going to say anything negative or participate in negative talk in the office today and then its just a downward spiral once the first person starts going. I am really trying to be more aware of this. I like what you said its almost as if that is your connection with some people. If I think about some people I feel that most of the time its negative talking either about someone that is bothering them or a situation whenever I talk with them. I do not like this and I really need and want to work on this more. Thanks for sharing.

I choose to educate them on how to treat others nicely and positivity. If they are still mean, I ask them how they are doing. It's really is a cry for love. We can't help others people reactions but I choose to be kind then if they are still mad/,mean I know the universe has my back. You can do this girl. I'm here for you!!! :)

    • @colski3333
      @colski3333 Před 6 lety

      Problem is not that you judge but that you judge yourself for judging. That’s the downward spiral. Once u stop judging yourself for judging you will see that all you know is a form of judgement. This is the place where we ask god to help us and most of all accept ourself for being judgemental.
      Mostly judgements are so deeply imprinted in the subconscious that unless the feelings that lie under the judgements are allowed to express the root or the source of judgement will remain and judgements can’t be released.
      Using a course in miracles workbook (which is book two of 3 books in one) helps identify the cause of judgments in a systemic way.

    Great video, but I have a question. Judgement, as it was referred to in this video, was negative judgement but there's also positive judgement-the thought 'I really admire and love this about this person'. Is this also something we should strive to eliminate, or is it only the negative judgements we have that blocks our connection to source energy?

    • @myrandomrants
      @myrandomrants Před 6 lety +6

      Alicia Aurelius I too struggled with that and my friend Victor Granville is a relationship coach and he helped me to understand there is a difference between a 'judgement' (which is basically an evaluation based on our own moral beliefs of what's right or wrong) and an 'assessment' which is based on your ability to connect. Your admiration of someone is the later. Hope that helps.

    Having stuff in your toolbox (I'm a firm believer in Christ and YehoVAH so prayer is my go to), it reminds me of ninja turtles. I got numchucks, bo staff... I always go to violent places in my head. And the 80s.

    I am so judgmental of myself, I'm always like, stop being so judgmental! And then I'm like, you're not the boss of me, and then I'm like y'all, quit being so mean you're ruining this beautiful day, and then the fourth me is just... Ahhhhh

    To me I get this applies to a surface level of your thoughts of judgement. But what judgement is a survival mechanism to protect your family and yourself. For example. The Black Mothers everyday worried if the police will hurt or kill their black men. Myself being Native we always deal with the Trump administration destroying our artifacts and land having dogs attack protestors in South Dakota. Or all the wars going on around the world. To me this concept is so easy for her to write about. If something happens I get the forgiving afterwards but there is some valid judgements.

      Natalie McArthur yes, yes, yes. i would love more discussion in this area. Someone mentioned the downhill cycle that happens at work. I faced such a dilemma for years when i was privy to maneuverings from the top. It was a religious organization with a history of scandal. The cycles happened because patrons and general community believed the facade wholeheartedly. The few of us who'd been there for a long time kept trying to figure out how to end the patterns, which inevitably led to comparing notes; i.e., judgments. A counselor said to distinguish between judgment and discernment. That made sense; still does, but in the situation both existed, frankly. Today i struggle with the same thing re: the political divides. For so much, my discernment runs between 'Let it go' and 'Speak for those with no voice'. If the latter, speaking often involves explanation that isn't much about peace and light. It all gets very thorny!

      Natalie + Cathleen - I agree that this area needs more discussion! I am a diversity & inclusion coach and consultant and I've been working on a series of resources to help address core intergenerational trauma, in addition to personal / individual wounds, through the lens of Judgement Detox. It's possible but we need additional frameworks. I'll come back and post when it's live in the next week or so. You can see my work here if you're interested: www.aaronxrose.com xoxo

  • @wordsofwisdomwithladynenari

    Actually, there is a huge difference between judgment and observation of behaviour or a situation. Judgment is as Gabrielle says here in terms of separation, yet judgment really is about the emotional charge and emotional trigger that goes along with what you are judging. Observation of someone's behaviour or a situation is simply stating the what is ISness of something free from being emotionally triggered or having that emotional charge about it. Example is someone is politically for a party ~ Judgement is what an idiot doesn't he know that the right wing is better, I cannot believe he said that and so on. Observation is interesting that this man is a left side person. This is the difference. I do love what you say Gabrielle in terms of no longer believing in it and can recover back to centre so to speak quicker, yet more to the point is it is free from being about believing in or not believing in anything, it is about coming into the inner knowing of God/Source/Love itself which simply is free from that emotional trigger/emotional charge and then being as God/Love would be. Simple. Not so easy to always live and BE of course, yet really simple.
