- Ask and you will receive! Unitronic's release of Stage 1 and Stage 1+ tunes for the MK8 GTI & R platform has just been made available for you to flash yourself from home. Since some people are on the fence about whether to keep the OEM downpipe or go with an aftermarket one, we decided to help you in your decision-making and test it ourselves to give you some factual information! Included in this video are the dyno sheets from both scenarios!
Unitronic's officially released numbers for the MK8 GTI are:
Stage 1 - 336HP/352TQ
Stage 1+ - 361HP/377TQ
Please remember that the officially released numbers are crank power figures and that our figures from the dyno here in Texas will differ from theirs.
This is a back to back dyno session with both versions of the software in the same conditions, and the same conditions as previous dyno runs! If you know anything about this car, you know it has just about everything you can do to a MK8 GTI done to it, so these runs are a good test of what you can get out of this car with what is currently available on the market!

Bms’ 8R dyno’d 262whp/287wtq on 91 octane and on e25 got 288whp/311wtq. Totally stock car, these were just baseline numbers before the jb4.

Jeez the MK8 is a wheel spinning machine! Way more power and torque than my Stage 2 MK7 and I fight for traction in that car. This thing makes almost 400 ft/lbs at 2,500 RPMs.

Are those tips the stock ones that come on the Milltek system? If not where did you get em? They look sick

Is stage 1 vs stage 1+ 91 and 93 octane? Also please do some quarter mile time..I've only found stock and tuned 8R times ..haven't seen a Tuned mk8 quarter mile time yet

This makes me sad and wanting to throw the Cobb AP away. I have a 2019 GLI with a HPA IS38 OEM+ with the stock downpipe among other upgrades. Dyno tuned at 315 WHP and 354 TQ. It was being limited by the stock down pipe according to tuner on the dyno. Now could have been the dyno I don't know but maybe I am missing something here.
For previous MQBs DP is def. a necessity if you are getting a Stage 2 or custom tune... for the MK8 there is no tuning solution currently for aftermarket DPs. (Coming later)
@@BMPTuning That explains everything then. It is new still in the box. Moved to the artic up here so it will get finished soon.
Assuming the downpipe most likely popped up a CEL I’m curious to what the process was to wipe it :/

Now the real question is how long that clutch is gonna last, that’s what has me worried about tuning my MK8
Been tuned some time and no smell so far lol
@@A_Guy123 are you running stage 1 or 1+? Any slipping ? I was worried the stock clutch wouldn’t handle all that torque
@@michaelrossi3275 1+, no slipping but recently with the colder weather it’s been throwing clutch heat signs. Today it smelled funky but wasn’t the clutch, think the brakes can’t handle launches and hard braking. They have a new tune out with low torque that I’ve been debating running but also wouldn’t mind just getting a better clutch lol
we have a southbend stage 3 endurance clutch installed. Stage 1 you should be fine on stock clutch for a while, stage 1+ and a heavy foot might result in needing a clutch a little sooner lol
@@BMPTuning how’s stage 3 for daily driving? Is it a bit overkill and a leg workout or manageable still being southbend?
So all in all it made 9 whp and 9 wtq less on OEM down pipe?
Just about for stage 1+. Assuming this number will be different when downpipe specific software becomes a thing, but only time will tell. Surprising how close it is though.
What size is that thule bin? Large or XL?

I have a mk8 and wanna get it but on their website it says if u have that “tcu box is subject to availability” and “latter tcu” tcu tune won’t work with so I’m afraid to buy it that it won’t work with it? Thank u 4 ur help 👊 (edit: it’s a GTI s 2022 if that can help u know if it should work w tcu)
@@johnkeycooks there’s not a super easy way to confirm if it will flash the tcu without contacting Unitronic with the TCU box code to see, or just buying the tune and seeing if it works for now!
@@johnkeycooks Yes we used Uniconnect, this is a manual car though, no TCU software needed. Buy the tune though, TCU coming VERY shortly!
Does it remove the top speed limiter ?

This is MK8 GOLF GTi...EA888 gen 4, EVO 4 platform. It is basically very close to Mk7.5 R capable of power.
That’s on the car and engine, not on your tuner. If you wanted more power shouldve just traded the car and used the money for a down on the next car
