    My parents had Nautiques when I was growing up. Now I just bought my first Nautique, it's a 1995 196 with the pcm. I really appreciate all the info your putting up and your videos are great to watch. Just wanted to say thank you and keep it up! Wish I had watched this video before I bought mine lol I missed a few things.

    Cosmetics are one thing BUT you never even mentioned the most important thing, it`s called the hull and the floor you would not be the first or last person to see a bout that locks good, sounds good, clean, yet has a soft spot in the hull or floor that will really destroy you and cost you more than all you mentioned! If the hull has a problem and maybe rotten it pretty dam hard to get over as well as VERY EXPENSIVE!!!

    Hey bud- this isn’t meant to be mean or anything. But a few things.
    1. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people call boat VINYL “leather”
    2. Only one of the gauges is a Speedo, not all of them
    3. I noticed how you said “if there’s a problem you’ll know fairly quickly” ... no.
    On the flip side you did mention some useful things for a brand new owner and do actually make some quality content. Thanks

      Tolman Lamborn Thank you for the feedback. This is some positive feedback which I really enjoy. I would say for question 3 80% of your issues will come up when you take it out on the lake for a day to test it out. If you want to really be sure, take it to a mechanic to be 100% sure everything is all good.

    • @mikebenham9753
      @mikebenham9753 Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Tolman, I'm with you on the vinyl/leather, though I wouldn't count it among my top pet peeves (I'm looking at you, guy driving in the passing/left lane when you're not passing). But, regarding your second point, on many older competition ski boats there actually ARE multiple speedometers. If you look at the video at about 6:24 you can see that there are in fact 2 speedos on this boat. This is much less common now that many boats have GPS cruise control, but before that was common place you would have redundant speedometers in order to check and maintain speed for tournament passes. If you pause right at the transition at 1:56 (before he squats down) you can see one of the pitot pickup tubes at the corner of the stern. There should be another on the port side, but I never saw a good view to point it out in the video. Sometimes these are also paddle wheel driven, but in that era pitots were more common. The reason that GPS is more popular now is two fold- not only can it be more accurate and less finnicky, but both a pitot and paddle wheel measure the boats speed relative to the water, not absolute speed (relative to the course).

    • @92813justin
      @92813justin  Před 6 lety

      John C. Thanks for asking that great question. I'm actually skiing through the slalom course at 36mph at 22off so we ended up purchasing a ski boat to help me get even better. We sold the malibu. It was my idea because it was a lot to handle and keep up with. The nautique is super easy to take care off.

    So I have a guy selling his, talked him down to 2900 but impeller needs replaced cuz he said it will overheat. Could other problems cause it to over heat if let's say impeller thing is fixed?

    • @92813justin
      @92813justin  Před 3 lety +1

      $2,900 does not even buy you a trailer? But either way that would be a smoking deal. Yes there is. Make sure the water intake ball valve is open, clean the water strainer, or thermostat could be broken. If the impeller disintegrated in the housing, I would suggest taking apart the hoses and cleaning everything you have access to to get the rubber pieces out of the engine block. Hope this helps.

    what about motor hours? how do you determine the useful life...50 hours vs 300 hours? Obviously 50 is still new...

    • @92813justin
      @92813justin  Před 6 lety +1

      RiverRuns NC good question. If a boat is 20 years old you may prefer to have more hours than less since it shows they used it and instead of it just sitting all year. This particular boat had 160 hours on it a couple of years ago when we bought it. It wasn't registered the last five years he owned it. So we had to make sure everything still worked and in good shape.

    • @92813justin
      @92813justin  Před 6 lety +2

      Most engines will go around 2000 hours. I would purchase one below 1200 Max. Preferably under 700 hours for me. We purchased this boat with 59 hours 5 years ago.
