Blacksmithing - Forging a Fire Poker with Weaved Copper Wire

  • This was a quick gift for my mom since she just got a fireplace installed in her house. I rushed the copper part a bit since I didn't have a lot of time to do it, hence some of them bending sideways and looking kinda funky.
    Thanks for watching!

    The wires being aloud to go off center shows it is hand crafted, not machine made. Beautiful.

    Looks great. Love how uneven the copper wires are, it makes it look so natural. If I had a fireplace, (I wish I did but it's not allowed where I live unless your house is old enough to already have one) I would like that to be hanging next to it. Keep up the great making. Also, how loud is the forging in real life, compared to volume on CZcams?

    Great work. Could you do this again and focus on the weaving ? My thoughts: drill the holes, put a slot between the holes, weave your copper then bring it all flush, maybe with a little borax. Heavy gauge metal inlay ?

    The wire looks really messy & kinda wrecks the whole thing should've taken a little more time to make them look straight & nice. But the rest looks good.

    • @TheBrushcutter
      @TheBrushcutter Před 5 lety

      I agree, the copper braid would have been a great way to accentuate the craftsmanship but it's helter skelter routing only highlights that routing. A little more time aligning it would have made it far more presentable. But. That being said, it's still far prettier and infinitely more functional than the one I've never built. A+++ for effort and accomplishing the build. And it's his, so he can build it how he wants. Lol

    Hi, really good looking and cause of the copper wire rather uncommon fire poker. Gotta ask since non was shown - to me it seemed like the copper got stiffer each pass did you anneal the copper now and then to counter work hardening?

    • @MakeNCreate
      @MakeNCreate  Před 5 lety

      I annealed the copper multiple times as I was weaving it through. As much of it as I could anyways. Thank you.
