  • Today you're going to learn how to get more steering angle on your Wltoys k989 1/28 Rc drift car to make sharper turns using the stock transmitter and a cheap servo upgrade with a simple modification to the top plate to make some room for the longer servo arm
    There are two mods the easy one is just removing the top plate and drift with more flex in the chassis or you make a custom top plate from a carbon sheet like we show in the video
    We do recommend to try drifting without a top plate a lot of people like to drift with a bit more roll and flex in the chassis
    It those worn out your pinion gears because they are under a lot more stress every time the chassis flex
    In the first test run the steering angle mod works perfect and nothing binds at full lock and it is so much easier to make a sharp turn and countersteer while drifting at a crazy angle is amazing
    In episode 14 of this Rc drift project, we make a custom top plate and show you how to copy it step by step
    These are the upgrade parts we used and k989 Rc drift car

    It’s interesting to see how different every K989 is. I had the same steering angle by just putting the ball joint on the top hole of the servo horn🤷🏼‍♂️

    Once you take the servo's back plate (cover) off, the motor wires are exposed. You'd better use electrical tape to cover it to avoid short circuit if anything happens to touch it.
    Since you go with hi-speed 50:50 drift I think less chassis flex might be better. Anyway, try it and see how you like is the best.

      +Beaver's Hobby we added some scotch tape and some distance between the servo and motor shut be oke
      We are going to try both and than deside but most likely go for the stiffer and more durable option
      Thx for feedback

    The real limitation in AWD drift setups and steering angles lie in the CVD hubs themselves. Once removed for RWD conversion the front diff housing needs to be dealt with (And monoshock conversion). That's about as extreme as you can go with factory k989 no hop-ups. Dusting off mine after shelving it for 3 years from a busted servo (How I first came across this years ago...). Didn't have the heart to break out the epoxy and start Frankensteining it but seeing how extreme builds have become and overall ingenuity I'm tempted to build one ground up!

    You should make a little track in that room . nothing too fancy just mark-out a track with masking tape... it's super fun to drive around a track . forces you to control the car . you can also put some crayons or pencil under the tape so that you can't cheat buy driving over the tape :P ...

    awesome!! i just moved the ball link on the driver side that the steering servo rod goes to. moved it up the arm closer to the wheel hub. giving the same effect.

    I know this video was made a long time ago, but I thought I would ask anyway. Can you tell me where you got that tail wing on the back of your car? I can't seem to find a store that sells them. If you or any of your subscribers know of a place, could you let me know? This video is still very relevant, and I enjoyed watching it.Thanks a bunch!

    • @HowToDIYRc
      @HowToDIYRc  Před 3 lety +1

      yes it drifts just fine without the mod but with more steering angle it drift better so try to get the most angle with the stock servo so your not breaking anything :D

    • @HowToDIYRc
      @HowToDIYRc  Před 6 lety

      no, not really + we got plenty of spare gears for this servo and it's almost twice as strong as the 5gram servo that holds up to all my abuse then the 9gram servo without a servo saver shut do be oke

      i think you drivertrain is running ruf causing the motor draw to much amps for the esc and both overheat so check how smooth the metal driveshaft turns
