    Woah it looks so cool I hope to go abroad while I am in high school. How much or how good were you at Japanese before you went to study abroad.

    So i have a question since I never see this on any school vid. Can students take their cars to school like in the US?

    • @Julie-zl4db
      @Julie-zl4db  Před 6 lety +15

      no as you have to be at least 18 years old to get your license here. students here are severely busy with school and don’t really have the time to go through driving school. plus most high school students would have already graduated by then

    I am very excited because I will go with AFS. How is your Japaneese now I want to ask

      @Julie-zl4db  Před 5 lety +9

      im happy to hear you chose AFS !
      i would say that im somewhat between n4 and n3, before coming i only had a grasp of basic grammar and vocabulary, and knew only about 20 ish kanji characters

      Julie 「ジュリー」 Thank you very much! Is kanji is so hard because everyone said you can not learn kanji?

    • @Julie-zl4db
      @Julie-zl4db  Před 5 lety +11

      @@efeshinkawa i found kanji to be super intimidating when i first started learning japanese. i personally love learning it now, though everyone is different. when you're living in japan its kinda hard not to be able to learn t since you're going to be exposed to it
      like all the time
      its definitely not easy beginners, (depending on your language learning background) but you'll eventually get the hang of it as long as you're putting in the effort. it all just takes time.

    I'm considering applying for this fall! I'm half japanese and I'm starting to forget the language and I would love to go to school and remember a little more. How hard was the school work considering that you came with not that much knowledge? Was it easy to catch up especially with the classes being all Japanese?

    • @Julie-zl4db
      @Julie-zl4db  Před 4 lety +9

      not gonna lie, it was pretty difficult at the beginning. it wasn’t until like two months into my exchange that i actually started to somewhat understand a bit from my classes. i think it became easier overtime because of the efforts i put into studying the language during my free time. depending on your school, they may or may not have you participate in certain classes. even if you are expected to, they understand that you’re just an exchange student. they wont expect you to be able to perform like everyone else. i think you’ll be fine as long as you stay motivated :)

    • @Julie-zl4db
      @Julie-zl4db  Před 4 lety +1

      Ella Rivera no specific age requirement, as long as you’re currently in high school you are able to go ! (at least for afs)

    How much your school fees and uniform costs? I know that youre an exchange student so you dont have to pay for it, but how abt other students?

    • @Julie-zl4db
      @Julie-zl4db  Před 6 lety +3

      i actually did have to pay for mine since i want to bring it back to america with me
      my uniform came out to be around 500 USD
      i am not sure about the actual cost of school itself, i only had to pay for my uniform and a few extra fees to be able to participate in special classes like home ec
      im sorry :(

      hey ! before going abroad i self studied the language for about seven months. i also knew how to read both sets of kana, and only knew a handful of kanji. on top of that, i was familiar with basic grammar rules, and of course made sure i knew the most basic of phrases

    hi! this is a bit late but were you allowed to choose the school you wanted to go to? just wanted to confirm since i wld much rather get into a coed school than a all girls school. if u werent allowed to choose, is there a higher chance of getting into a coed or all girls school?

    • @jasminakhavan7437
      @jasminakhavan7437 Před 5 lety

      I was on the same exchange program and your not allowed to choose the kinda school you go to but you'll most likely go to a coed since theres more of that kind of school
