Another definition for "meme" is something like an information virus, so they are saying that they will "infect" our minds. With this take, it becomes a pretty cool concept which I personally haven't heard before.
the title memem actually has a lot of interpretations. one of them is the word "me". then memem which sounds like humming but instead of mumum, it's memem. then what you said "meme". it's really geniuss
I feel like this isn't even Girl Crush anymore. It's Badass Woman-ry. This is like the feminine side of Everglow. Where Everglow is rough and sharp and in-your-face, Purple Kiss is more dark and glossy, like the smoke that hides the monster. I dunno if that even makes sense, but that's what I'm going with. I love it.
Swan’s part is soo much more impactful because of how hard the song goes.. it’s like the eye of the storm. The whole song too just has so many different interesting parts like the tempo change that still come together for an interesting and engaging girl crush song. Purple is back! Edit: also, the contrast between the hard hitting first chorus, and then soaring above in the second chorus. its such a release, and goes perfectly with the idea that they’ve got into your head!
The two Story Films that were released during the run-up to the comeback add a lot to the context of getting into the brain/mind/memory and the what the concept actually means. Funny, whimsical and well-filmed, definitely worth watching!
I hope they have something to follow up with the story films though, the witch concept would stand out so much more if they could connect them with the MV more
@@fuk2433 I dunno - I think once Go Eun and the other witches take over CyA at the end of the second story film and we get the look at the "Memory Storage" safe, the stage is well set for the song and MV. They lyrics definitely continue the theme of the story films; if I have any complaint, it's that most of the sets for the MV (with the exception of the CGI head at the end) don't really convey much of the concept of being inside the mind/head. That's the one aspect in an otherwise amazing MV that I wish had been better realized.
@@Vektorix28205 their is a small part of the music video that goes with the storyline with them controlling cya’s head which is their hands at their heads and one set of the mv is the white room and in the background on the screens shows the X-ray of the brain which leads into them controlling and with the storyline. There’s little details that go with it the viewer just has to look harder
I definitely think this is how experimental K-pop should sound like. I’m a fan os Aespa’s Savage and next level because of the experimental parts put together, but they don’t go to far. Then, there’s NMIXX’s O.O that experimented a lil' TOO much and made people hate the song at first listen. This song goes at the far limit, like really touching the line between “experimental” and “too much we hate it”. I was really amazed by this song, and even though it will not be in my playlist, I would listen to this when I’m going for the “maleficent” vibes❤️🔥
i know goeun's and swan's high notes are great, but i can't wait for the day that they also utilize jieun's rich low notes. give me that sultry summer sapphic track and give me jieun on that, rainbow bridge!

I think these companies wanted the groups to be more experimental and original, but as they're not as big as others (like SM or JYP), so they know they have to absolutely kill it to make success, but they're also not so small as to have no budget or no connections...

it kind of gives me flash backs of how big hit was with jin. both of them are the oldest and when bts debuted there was a problem with line distribution too esp with jin. it kind of gives me hope bc as time progressed jin just stayed true to his own personality and that’s what makes him unique. jieun is so goofy and her voice is beautiful, I hope that as time goes by she’ll feel more comfortable expressing herself and with that garner more attention and thus more lines.
I love how despite picking the typical "Girl Crush" concept, Purple Kiss has that certain Purple Kiss sound and colors to it. Truly a rare thing these days.
I feel like 'girl crush' was only a mere template and Purple Kiss took it and went crazy turning it into something that is fits them perfectly. They're really bringing something to the table as well as shaking the standard of what is already set for concepts like this. I hope they go far and wide because their talent deserves all the recognition that they're getting.
They killed this comeback! The entire album is amazing and I’ve literally have had it on repeat the whole day. All the members currently have covid except for Swan so I hope they recover well, I’m so excited to watch them promote this song!
Besides being a great take on the Girl Crush concept, I also loved how experimental the song is, and I was really surprised to see RBW releasing something like this, they have never done something quite like this (maybe "No Diggity" by Oneus, but that song does things a little different). The girls killed the song, and I can't wait for them to recover and perform this song! I hope people start paying more attention to them! Also, the EP is SO GOOD. Pretty Psycho better blow up
i agree! this isn't standard cookie-cutter girl crush either - you can feel the uniqueness and a sort of maturity in the song. and i actually felt there was a lot of similarity between "no diggity" and memeM in terms of arrangement or at least the general sound. both were very experimental like you said, and as a huge tomoon i enjoyed both songs a lot :D a lot of credit needs to go to the ppl who worked on the song; RBW seriously has some amazing producers and it shows in every song that their groups, especially the newer ones like weus and purki put out
i feel like rbw has like, a pattern of concepts for almost all groups, but they chose in different times. For example, Mamamoo with starry night and Oneus with a song written easily. And now with memem and no diggity. And it repeats with different comebacks and sounds with different groups
regardless if the title track is your type or not, the rest of the album is gold and should be listened to. the bsides are phenomenal and the best in their discography so far
PURPLE KISSS!!!!!!!!! Holy shit. I haven't been in love with a group's songs like this for years. Also it doesnt need to be said, but Queen Swan is the GOAT, her voice is so amazing. This is probs my favourite song in kpop in the last few years.
They released two films showing their concept in this comeback: witches that get inside your head. Even Cya featured in these films. Since I saw them I got really excited to see how this comeback would be, and they did not disappoint at all, it's so cool!! I'm so glad you reacted to it
Even the intro: illusion seemed like some hypnosis, kind of like the ritual the witches do before getting inside your head (from my point of view at least) I loved it so much
As a film maker, I really think you would enjoy the two Story Films they released before this song. They add some lore/context for the video and they are SO well made.
I agree with this review. Purple kiss is probably the best quality new girl group in kpop (Goeun and Swan are outstanding but the other girls are also really good). Sadly nowdays marketing, fandoms, visuals and catchy personalities make a big thing on popularity. If I think of a new girl group like Nmixx oo, they feel to me like a "Meme" compared with Purple kiss in terms of sound and singing, but is from a big company, have marketing, they are younger and have more popularity...I hope kpop can keep groups like purple kiss that focus more on talent and quality than just making popular products for consuming.
It's not a "nowadays" thing kpop has always been like this. I think the current kpop scene is even more favorable to groups in mid to lower tier companies with good music and right marketing Eg. the huge success of stayc and Ive. Nmixx having the privilege isn't stopping Purple Kiss from succeeding. They may have the talent but still need extra something to grab the audience and viral song or moment like Billlie recently with Tsuki.
@@musictamaya1149 I'm not sure if the current kpop scene is favorable to lower tier companies since there are so many groups around, maybe the scene is favorable for mid-high tier companies that can make enough noise with marketing, promotions and content but let's take a brief look of how many new girl groups came in lately (just girl): Classy, Nmixx, Kepler, Billie, Ive, H1 key, Bugaboo, Viviz, Purple kiss, Tribe, Pixy, Hot issue, StayC, Secret number, Aespa, Weeekly, Rumble G, Majors, Rocking doll, Rolling quartz, Ichillin, Lightsum, Azer, Tea party, Mamadol, Craxy, Bling Bling, Hi L, Pritti G, Posh girls, etc...and I'm probably missing many more... and this is just new girl groups... I think some (or many) of these groups are really good and I like the diversity that they bring but the competition is insane, not sure if there are enough audience for so many groups. (specially lower tier ones)
It's the music industry ofc it's not just about talent there is the image the visual the MV Style marketing production brand deals those companies put a lot of money to promote their groups and that's ok RBW should just do the same being a small company isn't an exuse because big hit was small too but they have great marketing strategy just look at StayC
@@bemyhope5059 That's the problem. Is basically "Americanization" of talent through marketing and influence. I mean marketing and influence eventually becomes more important than talent and creativity just like happened to western industry. To make a decent group like Purple kiss or StayC you need to invest in talent, not only trainning time but also talent selection, knowdledge, vision, creativity and work. A good example of the opposite of that is Nmixx and Kepler that in my opinion are just generic versions of girl crush concept with decent choreographies and visuals but lacking originality in concept and music, but they have the marketing and influence to position themselves. Eventually the scene lose creatitvity and concepts become almost the same like its happening with girl crush based on Black Pink (even MemeM is based on that but at least Purple kiss add some of their essence and creativity to differenciate). But not only that, those groups just put most of their investment into one "unoriginal" single that will be positioned instead of other groups more creative that release good mini albums or bsides but unfortunately are eclipsed and underrated. (For example Pixy, tribe, etc, even Purple kiss or Dreamcatcher). That goes into detriment of content, art and creativity.

The vocal slides in the second part of the chorus give this really cool like cunning/devious vibe to it and I think it really sets it apart. Also I wish they had the second part in the last chorus too.
I don't know why, but it took Pretty Psycho for me to really pay attention to Purple Kiss. I vaguely noticed them, and in performances Swan stood out to me because she's gorgeous, but just today I ended up down a rabbithole of catching up on all their music. I didn't really know that Swan is an amazing singer, and they're super talented overall. Glad I finally noticed :D
Goeun and Swan's vocals really do bring something else to this concept as you said. The other parts I could see other girl group members performing well to an extent, but it takes another level of individuality and skill to pull of their parts. All of them did amazing on this track though, and I love their synergy :)

Memem is actually a korean word. 1. Crying sound of Cicadas is pronounced memememememem and so on (like chirp,chirp for birds in English). It is annoying and the sound gets stuck in your head. 2. As you said, Play on word with memdolda 맴돌다. Again, it means stuck in your head So no, they are not inventing words, I think the last letter is capitalised since one of the lyrics say eemeM is Memem even when reversed. Also a wordplay with the English word Me Me Me Me Me on repeat. Would mean 'I'm stuck in your head, me,me,me me me me, and you can't get me out'
Honestly this is normally not my type of music but the song is just so totally crazy that I love it. They used that genre to their own advantage and push the limits to the max, I was very surprised. Plus the MV is so powerful and every member get their time to shine. Can't wait to see them perform live.
I've been listening to this song maybe 7 times already, but what I really want to point out is the fact that I literally get chills whenever I hear Swan's part. You know which part I am talking about. EVERY SINGLE TIME.
their entire discography fits the group concept of the color purple and I think they've done a good job at introducing different shades of purple shown by that little extra intricacy in concepts that some would currently lump together as "girl crush." And I love it. But thinking about the versatility of purple, I think there's some opportunity for even wider concept range for a more springlike/innocent/dream like vibe along the lines of a lavender or lilac (something like a violet fragrance vibe) and of course, all the shades of purple in between that end of the spectrum and where they are now.
PurpleKiss are so underrated. But at least they have talent to wrote and composed their own songs which shown their own colour. Compared to those only sings the songs that been given to them. Well, one thing RBW also need to play important roles to promote them to be more recognized by the global fans especially. Because most of them only know HYBE, YG, SM, JYP. Like sometimes its unfair for this talented girls.
Their album is so good. It's got a bit of everything on it. I was honestly skeptical whether they could create something that could compete with Hide and Seek because that ep is so incredible, but they managed to do it again and make an album that I can't stop listening to. They're honestly almost doing too well because the standards they've set for themselves (and others) so soon into their career are already so high that I don't even want to imagine the amount of pressure they're going to be under later on.
I personally think..this song is a Purple Kiss take on Aespa Savage..the similarities are to obvious..the memem part is almost identical to gimme gimme now..and the ascending high note is very similar to Savage last part..there are changes in the middle of the song too..which arent Purple Kiss signature in their previous songs..I just wish Purple Kiss would stick to their sound previously like in Pozona and Zombie..they dont need to jump into the trend..because they can make their own..
I love that they actually have a concept and theme and not ONLY have a girl crush song for the sake of having a girl crush concept lmao The whole witch and manipulation and like going into someone's brain is really cool and maybe not NEW new but definitely refreshing That's also what's showing in their little films they did with Cya from onewe as the person in whose head they are actually getting during that films (where I also think this mv is supposed to play in) and that is just really cool as a concept combined with their music literally being stuck in your head

It's really just a throw away position title that means nothing, she literally does everything, rap, sing, dance, write, compose. By far the highest level ace of 4th gen, not even close, and she's often overshadowed because fans have a tendency to relate to idols with 1 specific high skill that stands out an focus on just that.

1. This is Woman-crush level work. 2. You are spot on with the "flat" portrayal during the end bit. I kept thinking of Linkin Park's debut era MVs like In the End. So far, it seems that Purple Kiss is comfortable with a goth aesthetic, focusing on the color purple. Dark videos are tricky, and RBW better watch the lighting if they want to do justice to the dark / goth aesthetic. I am afraid the group choreo might seem dull on stage for live performances if the stage props, lighting and costumes don't compliment each other, and, if the camera crew aren't pro enough.

The girl crush vs cute concept is getting really annoying tbh. Cute concepts have ALWAYS been the staple for kpop ggs since the very beginning. I'm glad that companies are trying to switch it up but they have yet to perfect the sound and purple kiss did that with memeM!
Nah, boy groups get criticized this way, too. At least one bg built a whole album concept around the criticism they received for "noise" music trend. And the constant comparing is real. What is unfortunate is when groups, gg or bg, immediately get dragged by some simply for entering into a genre of music. This is "pop" after all. The reaction provides perfect examples of how artists can differentiate within and even elevate trendy music. PK did just that.
Some of the people who complain about girl crush are the same people who never bother checking the cute concepts. They just complain for the sake of complaining. Same thing about the "multiple songs mixed into one". Some people complain a lot about it but don't bother checking out other types of songs.

This M/V suits the concept they created and Swan and Gieuns vocals putting you in a trance is EXACTLY what they were going for. The execution of the song and the M/V was 10/10. I’m impressed at how Purple Kiss and ONEUS are slowly and consistently growing in popularity. both groups haven’t had the HUGE standout comeback yet with mega views and music show wins, but with every release they score higher and higher and the charts and digital download/streams charts. I was surprised that this purple Kiss comeback charted higher than Solars solo comeback Honey and has way more CZcams views for the MV. I think RBW have been pretty smart with how they have handled Purple Kiss. Songs are super interesting, and even this girl crush concept managed to feel original. I think they are going to be one of the top 5 girl groups by the end of 2022

So this experimental and unique sound is what (I think) JYP was trying to do with NIMX but failed. RBW did an AMAZING job producing this track so while it added all this extra things that made this song dope- it all works together to create a cohesive and new sound. I think the girls mature voices all helped blend the vocals and the fact that we already know them is what made this so goddess level
I agree. The first thing that came to mind when I heard this with all the twists in the song, reminded me a lot of NMIXX's O.O, except this was significantly much better plus it actually made sense. Plus their vocals are just so good.
Yeah same, I honestly haven't liked any of these "experimental" tracks before, but I loved this. I'm definitely not on the level of a PK fan to be biased, either. I just think they executed this perfectly to capture both this switch up vibe but also vocals and cohesive theme of the song.
What's good about memeM is that it took notes of what the other experimental songs were lacking (Savage sounding kinda empty and with the mixing and execution mess that is O.O). memeM sounds fuller, the mixing is good, and the transitions are seamless.

the argument of "there is too much girl crush going on" is just as silly as the argument of "there is too much preppy girly bubblegum pop going on" in the end, its fine not to like a sound or concept, but its not ok to complain that its not your specific taste and try and make it a problem when its not. memeM has a unique arrangement. When I first listen to the song, I thought it was kind of messy and some beats we're mildly irritating but they we're also some really good parts like the full chorus, bridge and the outro. Then when I listen to it for the second time and I payed attention to the lyrics, I was like “Oh that was the whole point, the song is supposed to sound like that to create this weird illusion in your head like you'd think the song is good but also the song is bad.” Which is ironically fitting since the intro performance for memeM is titled Illusion. Now I quite love memeM, I personally think it's better than Zombie but memeM is never boring to listen to it again, this song's unique arrangement gives many exciting twists in each part of the song!
To me that Swan's part after the first chorus sounds like it's a soloist Seori who sings it. The way they sing and deliver the song is just so different and unique. Those who know Seori you know but those who doesn't you definitely need to check her.
I want groups to do the kind of concepts they want to do and feel comfortable with doing... that's when the magic happens and it all clicks in place. However, I will say as someone in the other camp who is sooooooo over the cutesy concepts... girl crush concepts actually feel underrepresented to me. Strong, assertive, empowered women is a beautiful thing and I'd be stoked to see more of it in the kpop sphere.

I feel like this isn't even Girl Crush anymore. It's Badass Woman-ry. This is like the feminine side of Everglow. Where Everglow is rough and sharp and in-your-face, Purple Kiss is more dark and glossy, like the smoke that hides the monster.

Swan’s part is soo much more impactful because of how hard the song goes.. it’s like the eye of the storm. The whole song too just has so many different interesting parts like the tempo change that still come together for an interesting and engaging girl crush song. Purple is back!
Edit: also, the contrast between the hard hitting first chorus, and then soaring above in the second chorus. its such a release, and goes perfectly with the idea that they’ve got into your head!

The two Story Films that were released during the run-up to the comeback add a lot to the context of getting into the brain/mind/memory and the what the concept actually means. Funny, whimsical and well-filmed, definitely worth watching!

@@fuk2433 I dunno - I think once Go Eun and the other witches take over CyA at the end of the second story film and we get the look at the "Memory Storage" safe, the stage is well set for the song and MV. They lyrics definitely continue the theme of the story films; if I have any complaint, it's that most of the sets for the MV (with the exception of the CGI head at the end) don't really convey much of the concept of being inside the mind/head. That's the one aspect in an otherwise amazing MV that I wish had been better realized.
@@Vektorix28205 their is a small part of the music video that goes with the storyline with them controlling cya’s head which is their hands at their heads and one set of the mv is the white room and in the background on the screens shows the X-ray of the brain which leads into them controlling and with the storyline. There’s little details that go with it the viewer just has to look harder

I definitely think this is how experimental K-pop should sound like. I’m a fan os Aespa’s Savage and next level because of the experimental parts put together, but they don’t go to far. Then, there’s NMIXX’s O.O that experimented a lil' TOO much and made people hate the song at first listen. This song goes at the far limit, like really touching the line between “experimental” and “too much we hate it”.

I think these companies wanted the groups to be more experimental and original, but as they're not as big as others (like SM or JYP), so they know they have to absolutely kill it to make success, but they're also not so small as to have no budget or no connections...

I feel like rbw are having a hard time with park jieuns image and how they want her to be perceived because she often gets no lines or screen time
it kind of gives me flash backs of how big hit was with jin. both of them are the oldest and when bts debuted there was a problem with line distribution too esp with jin. it kind of gives me hope bc as time progressed jin just stayed true to his own personality and that’s what makes him unique. jieun is so goofy and her voice is beautiful, I hope that as time goes by she’ll feel more comfortable expressing herself and with that garner more attention and thus more lines.

I love how despite picking the typical "Girl Crush" concept, Purple Kiss has that certain Purple Kiss sound and colors to it. Truly a rare thing these days.
I feel like 'girl crush' was only a mere template and Purple Kiss took it and went crazy turning it into something that is fits them perfectly. They're really bringing something to the table as well as shaking the standard of what is already set for concepts like this. I hope they go far and wide because their talent deserves all the recognition that they're getting.
They killed this comeback! The entire album is amazing and I’ve literally have had it on repeat the whole day. All the members currently have covid except for Swan so I hope they recover well, I’m so excited to watch them promote this song!
Besides being a great take on the Girl Crush concept, I also loved how experimental the song is, and I was really surprised to see RBW releasing something like this, they have never done something quite like this (maybe "No Diggity" by Oneus, but that song does things a little different). i agree! this isn't standard cookie-cutter girl crush either - you can feel the uniqueness and a sort of maturity in the song. and i actually felt there was a lot of similarity between "no diggity" and memeM in terms of arrangement or at least the general sound. both were very experimental like you said, and as a huge tomoon i enjoyed both songs a lot :D a lot of credit needs to go to the ppl who worked on the song; RBW seriously has some amazing producers and it shows in every song that their groups, especially the newer ones like weus and purki put out
i feel like rbw has like, a pattern of concepts for almost all groups, but they chose in different times. For example, Mamamoo with starry night and Oneus with a song written easily. And now with memem and no diggity. And it repeats with different comebacks and sounds with different groups

They released two films showing their concept in this comeback: witches that get inside your head. Even Cya featured in these films. Since I saw them I got really excited to see how this comeback would be, and they did not disappoint at all, it's so cool!! I'm so glad you reacted to it

I agree with this review. Purple kiss is probably the best quality new girl group in kpop (Goeun and Swan are outstanding but the other girls are also really good). Sadly nowdays marketing, fandoms, visuals and catchy personalities make a big thing on popularity. If I think of a new girl group like Nmixx oo, they feel to me like a "Meme" compared with Purple kiss in terms of sound and singing, but is from a big company, have marketing, they are younger and have more popularity...I hope kpop can keep groups like purple kiss that focus more on talent and quality than just making popular products for consuming.
It's not a "nowadays" thing kpop has always been like this. I think the current kpop scene is even more favorable to groups in mid to lower tier companies with good music and right marketing Eg. the huge success of stayc and Ive. Nmixx having the privilege isn't stopping Purple Kiss from succeeding. They may have the talent but still need extra something to grab the audience and viral song or moment like Billlie recently with Tsuki.

I think some (or many) of these groups are really good and I like the diversity that they bring but the competition is insane, not sure if there are enough audience for so many groups. (specially lower tier ones)
It's the music industry ofc it's not just about talent there is the image the visual the MV Style marketing production brand deals those companies put a lot of money to promote their groups and that's ok RBW should just do the same being a small company isn't an exuse because big hit was small too but they have great marketing strategy just look at StayC
@@bemyhope5059 That's the problem. Is basically "Americanization" of talent through marketing and influence. I mean marketing and influence eventually becomes more important than talent and creativity just like happened to western industry. To make a decent group like Purple kiss or StayC you need to invest in talent, not only trainning time but also talent selection, knowdledge, vision, creativity and work. A good example of the opposite of that is Nmixx and Kepler that in my opinion are just generic versions of girl crush concept with decent choreographies and visuals but lacking originality in concept and music, but they have the marketing and influence to position themselves. Eventually the scene lose creatitvity and concepts become almost the same like its happening with girl crush based on Black Pink (even MemeM is based on that but at least Purple kiss add some of their essence and creativity to differenciate).
But not only that, those groups just put most of their investment into one "unoriginal" single that will be positioned instead of other groups more creative that release good mini albums or bsides but unfortunately are eclipsed and underrated. (For example Pixy, tribe, etc, even Purple kiss or Dreamcatcher). That goes into detriment of content, art and creativity.

The vocal slides in the second part of the chorus give this really cool like cunning/devious vibe to it and I think it really sets it apart. Also I wish they had the second part in the last chorus too.
I don't know why, but it took Pretty Psycho for me to really pay attention to Purple Kiss. I vaguely noticed them, and in performances Swan stood out to me because she's gorgeous, but just today I ended up down a rabbithole of catching up on all their music. I didn't really know that Swan is an amazing singer, and they're super talented overall. Glad I finally noticed :D

Goeun and Swan's vocals really do bring something else to this concept as you said. The other parts I could see other girl group members performing well to an extent, but it takes another level of individuality and skill to pull of their parts. All of them did amazing on this track though, and I love their synergy :)

Purple kiss has like a dark menacing aura that mixes so well with their powerful vocals and vocal flexibility. Like dark billowing smoke
Honestly this is normally not my type of music but the song is just so totally crazy that I love it. They used that genre to their own advantage and push the limits to the max, I was very surprised. Plus the MV is so powerful and every member get their time to shine. Can't wait to see them perform live.
I've been listening to this song maybe 7 times already, but what I really want to point out is the fact that I literally get chills whenever I hear Swan's part. You know which part I am talking about. EVERY SINGLE TIME.
their entire discography fits the group concept of the color purple and I think they've done a good job at introducing different shades of purple shown by that little extra intricacy in concepts that some would currently lump together as "girl crush." And I love it. But thinking about the versatility of purple, I think there's some opportunity for even wider concept range for a more springlike/innocent/dream like vibe along the lines of a lavender or lilac (something like a violet fragrance vibe) and of course, all the shades of purple in between that end of the spectrum and where they are now.
PurpleKiss are so underrated. But at least they have talent to wrote and composed their own songs which shown their own colour. Compared to those only sings the songs that been given to them. Well, one thing RBW also need to play important roles to promote them to be more recognized by the global fans especially. Because most of them only know HYBE, YG, SM, JYP. Like sometimes its unfair for this talented girls.
Their album is so good. It's got a bit of everything on it. I was honestly skeptical whether they could create something that could compete with Hide and Seek because that ep is so incredible, but they managed to do it again and make an album that I can't stop listening to.
They're honestly almost doing too well because the standards they've set for themselves (and others) so soon into their career are already so high that I don't even want to imagine the amount of pressure they're going to be under later on.
What PK does is not really girl crush, they just straight up go out of the box. And their charisma makes people fall for them.
I personally think..this song is a Purple Kiss take on Aespa Savage..the similarities are to obvious..the memem part is almost identical to gimme gimme now..and the ascending high note is very similar to Savage last part..there are changes in the middle of the song too..which arent Purple Kiss signature in their previous songs..I just wish Purple Kiss would stick to their sound previously like in Pozona and Zombie..they dont need to jump into the trend..because they can make their own..

Well nobody knows, the only thing we're aware about is that I guess RBW has a scout talent team that's probably one of, if not THE best in the kpop industry right now. Seriously, you don't easily find girls like Mamamoo and Purple Kiss and manage to train them to become world class singers, yet they do it effortlessly every time, it's ridiculous.
As for the song, it's AMAZING, like you said it IS girl crush but it SCREAMS Purple Kiss on every level, they just DO NOT MISS. I hope these young ladies will get recognized more and go FAR because they deserve it all!

The entire album is amazing, for me it was Pretty Psycho that really stood out, the bassline is so groovy.
1. This is Woman-crush level work.
2. You are spot on with the "flat" portrayal during the end bit. I kept thinking of Linkin Park's debut era MVs like In the End. So far, it seems that Purple Kiss is comfortable with a goth aesthetic, focusing on the color purple. Dark videos are tricky, and RBW better watch the lighting if they want to do justice to the dark / goth aesthetic. I am afraid the group choreo might seem dull on stage for live performances if the stage props, lighting and costumes don't compliment each other, and, if the camera crew aren't pro enough.

The girl crush vs cute concept is getting really annoying tbh. Cute concepts have ALWAYS been the staple for kpop ggs since the very beginning. I'm glad that companies are trying to switch it up but they have yet to perfect the sound and purple kiss did that with memeM!
Nah, boy groups get criticized this way, too. At least one bg built a whole album concept around the criticism they received for "noise" music trend. And the constant comparing is real.
What is unfortunate is when groups, gg or bg, immediately get dragged by some simply for entering into a genre of music. This is "pop" after all. The reaction provides perfect examples of how artists can differentiate within and even elevate trendy music. PK did just that.
Some of the people who complain about girl crush are the same people who never bother checking the cute concepts. They just complain for the sake of complaining. Same thing about the "multiple songs mixed into one". Some people complain a lot about it but don't bother checking out other types of songs.

I’m impressed at how Purple Kiss and ONEUS are slowly and consistently growing in popularity. both groups haven’t had the HUGE standout comeback yet with mega views and music show wins, but with every release they score higher and higher and the charts and digital download/streams charts. I was surprised that this purple Kiss comeback charted higher than Solars solo comeback Honey and has way more CZcams views for the MV. I think RBW have been pretty smart with how they have handled Purple Kiss. Songs are super interesting, and even this girl crush concept managed to feel original. I think they are going to be one of the top 5 girl groups by the end of 2022

Tbh I'm glad that RBW is waking up and trying to take risks music wise. It's the 4th gen already so expect different concepts, different set of expectations, and different types of fans.

So this experimental and unique sound is what (I think) JYP was trying to do with NIMX but failed. RBW did an AMAZING job producing this track so while it added all this extra things that made this song dope- it all works together to create a cohesive and new sound. I think the girls mature voices all helped blend the vocals and the fact that we already know them is what made this so goddess level
I agree. The first thing that came to mind when I heard this with all the twists in the song, reminded me a lot of NMIXX's O.O, except this was significantly much better plus it actually made sense. Plus their vocals are just so good.
Yeah same, I honestly haven't liked any of these "experimental" tracks before, but I loved this. I'm definitely not on the level of a PK fan to be biased, either. I just think they executed this perfectly to capture both this switch up vibe but also vocals and cohesive theme of the song.
What's good about memeM is that it took notes of what the other experimental songs were lacking (Savage sounding kinda empty and with the mixing and execution mess that is O.O). memeM sounds fuller, the mixing is good, and the transitions are seamless.

Who says they're getting sick of girl crush concepts? The guys do it 95% of the time and they don't call it boy crush, they call it K-Pop, and not one person complains.

the argument of "there is too much girl crush going on" is just as silly as the argument of "there is too much preppy girly bubblegum pop going on" in the end, its fine not to like a sound or concept, but its not ok to complain that its not your specific taste and try and make it a problem when its not. Trend following is also not as bad as many people love to make it just because its a trend they dont personally like. in this case specifically, Purple Kiss obviously suits this style and sound perfectly and they pull it off beautifully, so I don't see what the problem is other than some people who just personally dont like the girl crush concepts are just upset that us girl crush lovers are getting our rush of goodies for now and act like this is some personal attack and some revolution that is going to erase every other concept out there, when its not, just be patient and the trends will shift again, dont worry, its ok to just not like it and move on.
summer is right around the corner, that is the season for bright bubbly sounds again, so just be patient and let us dark folk have something too XD trends do not last forever.

memeM has a unique arrangement. When I first listen to the song, I thought it was kind of messy and some beats we're mildly irritating but they we're also some really good parts like the full chorus, bridge and the outro. Then when I listen to it for the second time and I payed attention to the lyrics, I was like “Oh that was the whole point, the song is supposed to sound like that to create this weird illusion in your head like you'd think the song is good but also the song is bad.” Which is ironically fitting since the intro performance for memeM is titled Illusion. Now I quite love memeM, I personally think it's better than Zombie but memeM is never boring to listen to it again, this song's unique arrangement gives many exciting twists in each part of the song!
RBW is not such a small company anymore. They're not in the Big 4 range, but they bought WM last year and DSP this year
To me that Swan's part after the first chorus sounds like it's a soloist Seori who sings it. The way they sing and deliver the song is just so different and unique. Those who know Seori you know but those who doesn't you definitely need to check her.

I want groups to do the kind of concepts they want to do and feel comfortable with doing... that's when the magic happens and it all clicks in place.
However, I will say as someone in the other camp who is sooooooo over the cutesy concepts... girl crush concepts actually feel underrepresented to me. Strong, assertive, empowered women is a beautiful thing and I'd be stoked to see more of it in the kpop sphere.
It's my favorite song of theirs, so far. They are definitely in my head, now...lol
