A Bic lighter is reliable, cheap, light weight and super easy to use. Back in the days when everyone smoked, they were more common. It's a great idea to always carry one, even around town. Great advice.
A mini torch is even better. My favorite is a self igniting torch. The ferro rod is fun tho. Dryer lint takes a spark real easy. The self igniting torch is so easy tho.
Every time I go to 711 I buy all the orange box lighters. I have a zip lock bag full of them in my console. I like the orange because easy to spot if I drop one. Cheers Marty
That’s just untrue. Butane get too dense too form gas around 0c but if you bring it up even 5 degrees it will. Put it in your armpit for 2-3 min and it will be more then warm enough to work.
@@EtopiaCA yes because it instantly freezes and stops working after warming it up. Also inside Brest pocket keeps it warm enough too work in -30 🤦♂️ the cope is crazy tho
You've missed the point. If everything goes down hard, most people won't have practiced making fires by hand, bics lighters and refill fuel will be off the shelves and then they're screwed.
The fact that you guys have it up there so far that you refuse too accept that a bic is more rugged then you give it credit for. Unless it dies or runs out of spark it will work just as well as a ferro rod even in-30, and I live in northern Canada I know first hand.
I agree with your statement. With Marty saying “ good luck striking a ferro rod with one hand. Your screwed in the back country iffen you’re down to one hand ! Love a ferro rod, Great Peace of kit !

Nice to have multiple ways to light a fire!

Honestly, great and practical advice!
I have the same thing. A few around my kit to always make sure I can have fire 👍👍

Cheers Marty
I pack matches as well as lighters
is that even allowed?
I prefer a ferro rod it does a lot for me and i know how to process things down to start fire
😂😂😂 and my wife always ask me why do i need so many lighters if i don’t smoke 😂😂😂
When it’s really cold they won’t light

@@Chesterfield.Esquire98It's not untrue, they didn't say you couldn't warm it back up, it still won't work if it's too cold.

@@Chesterfield.Esquire98 Nobodies coping, you just have bad reading comprehension when it comes to English.
Pants pocket is usually warm enough to keep Bics going. Ask a smoker. But yes, if no body heat they stop working
Try lighting that at altitude. With low oxygen density
Flick your BIC requires no trick
I’m going to buy a bunch of bic lighters. Thanks.
ROFL yours runs out mine will last months lol
Yep, one in the dog backpack, one in the medical kit :)

I'll just use pine sap and the sun.😂😂 Mind if I borrow your classes, need to make a magnifying lense.
100%
Do you know how to use a ferro rod Marty?
My money is on a zippo and refuel.
Or take both.
This is such a bad take lol
Your lighters can easily get ruined a backup rod will be good to go no matter what
Try using your ferro rod with one hand. Good luck.

@@Martyupnorth if you lost your hand in the back country, maybe camping is not for you :)
