The entire 2016 film is just one BIG MESS to the overall franchise. Too much at once. No offense to Paul Giamatti, but I prefer the original 2002 voice of Drek as that was a bit more menacing.

It only had 9 months to develop the ps4 version as that’s not a lot of time especially if it’s on new technology and it needs to be made more than the old games which tech wasn’t as complex and a simple game in the ps2 era.
Safi PC also people compare it to the classics (the first 3) but they all had more than a year or more to develop it, with less things to model, *BUT THAT DOES NOT EXCUSE THE ABSOLUTELY AWFUL CUTSCENES IN THE REIMAGINING!!!!!!*

But I just wonder what happened when he came to the new Ratchet and Clank game with Rivet and Kit for Emperor Nefarious who turns him into a sheep, and he’s defeated in the past 10 years before Dr Nefarious’s counterpart became a ruler of his Polaris Galaxy.
2002 Drek is probably one of the most unique villains of all time. He could as easily exist in our world. So realistic and sadistic. I love it.

Personally speaking, I prefer the original Drek, He felt alot more threatening and less of a push-over. I have a feeling they did this to the newer Drek so that we would eventually get Dr. Nefarious as a twist villain in the end.

@@VtnVivi Exactly, they should have either made it clear that Nefy was the Villain from the beginning (and also have Lawrence back too), or not have him there at all and make Drek a more involved threat.
I agree with what you said but I also feel that the friendship between ratchet & clank and their disagreements on their goals during the original compared to the remaster was something that they should have added because in the reimagined they already best friends without even knowing each other for very long

Honestly the best scene involving 2016 Drek was only in the film, where after a brief funeral, he suddenly flushes all of the attending blarg out the airlock. Drek's apathy here was both funny and dark. I wish there was more emphasis on this cut-throat aspect of Drek.

I found Paul Giamatti rendition of Drek honestly somewhat interesting , since he somewhat was more of guy who wanted to fix his home planet by any means necessary , even if it meant destroying other planets.

VTNVIVI this video made me think of ratchets decision at the end of the first game. Ratchet activated the deplanitizer not only killing drek but destroying the new planet. The planet held the remains of other planets so it being destroyed made the original planets destruction for nothing. Not to mention the planet could of held the displaced aliens from the destroyed planets or the blarg which were tricked and robbed of a planet from drek. Do you have any thoughts?

The older, more maniacal Drek was definitely more memorable. It was cool that Dr. Nefarious's origin was in the movie, but perhaps there was room for compromise. Maintain Chairman Drek's completely corrupt personality and keep Nefarious on as his weapons developer, but have Dr. Nefarious know better than to try and double-cross some one so cruel.

Yeah 2016 Drek could've used more screen time and making him a darker character like the original 2002 game would've been a nice balance to everything else, plus Dr Nefarious felt a little overused, sure keep him there as a character in the background like Thanos in Guardians of the galaxy set him up for big things, but of course rainmaker ruined that. 🤷♂️

The only good thing I think they did to the new Drek was giving him the first name “Alonzo”. To me that’s both funny and intimidating depending on the delivery.

To be honest, I really do find Drek to be a massive joke in the reimagining compared to how corrupt and sinister he was in the original. In my opinion, 2002 Drek is possibly one of the best villains in all of gaming.

I always liked drek the most as a villain because he was always a true serious "bad guy", what i mean with that is, that he's not like every damn waky character in the reboot who's making bad jokes all the time. He was mean, terrefying and serious, and that's not a common thing nowadays anymore (in the R & C universe i guess)

if you think about it, it's a good thing that the remake was so different from the 2002 game because if it was just like the 2002 game, they would probably make a Going Commando remake. But, Insomniac is definitely working on a new Ratchet and Clank game (I think) and if they want to not get hate they're probably going to do a post-nexus game. (I think, and I hope) Seriously, they haven't really figured out the truth about the Lombaxes. I know the games hint to the Lombaxes went to a different dimension, but what if the portal Tachyon opened at the end of Tools of Destruction wasn't actually the Lombax dimension. Something completely different could have happened to the Lombaxes. And I don't know about anybody else, but I want to know what happened.

Later there was penguin walking round after hearing something at large wood he walk see baby raccoon, all dirty starving, he adopts the raccoon treating him like a son, getting baths getting him food, years later bob remembers the saber-toothed cats that killed his family penguin that adopted him says revenge is fools game it’ll make you nothing but worthless coward bob tells him I know but these saber-toothed cats killed my family, I need to avenge their death by killing saber-toothed cats, penguin understood tell him be safe you’re grown person take yourself. Bob stars jumping got attack by one cat bob doesn’t knows what to do the saber-toothed cats See adopter penguin three Reforest, brown elephant, squirrel, one from ice age has one eye they team up to help killed the saber-toothed cats. Scar cat says deal with them Bob starts running after the cats the guys take down the other cats cats there’s grass woods everywhere bob doesn’t know where cat went, the scar cat jumps bites his arms starts yelling his are bleeding bob use his hand throw the cat at the wood, scar cats says you’re not tough kid you’re just weak and pathetic like your family. Bob use his rage starts swinging his weapon at the scar cat bob cut his leg grab his neck bob holds his fists looking at him all scared, says if you ever hurt someone close by me again this won’t be your chance, bob finds Accountable stuff him throw him all way to the ice land. The Cats starts running way, adopt penguin your arm is bleeding! Bob said don’t worry it hurts little bit adopted penguin says where the scar cat at bob I put him accountable he’s not coming back time soon. Adopted penguin was proud he didn’t take the revenge that serious. Bob went travel to the ice land, starts stealing eggs from dinosaurs, the end.

They were criticizing a consumerist, studio-driven world with the original game, and then gradually became the very thing they criticized.
Yep, the booklet very much describes 2002 Chairman Drek as a mix of a sleazy movie producer and a mobster...who also loves his mom, and definitely he's a planet looter type villain like the Captain Planet villains (noly not as over the top) or Lawrence Limburger and his species from Biker Mice From Mars.
I definitely prefer Classic Drek, his motivation may be basic but the lengths he would go to get it were pretty dark. It earns that T rating, all the implied death of those billions of people and Drek didn't give a damn. Which makes it all the more satisfying that 2 random guys went on journey and ended up putting him in his place and killing him and his planet with his own weapon. Compare that to the cringe 2016 version and Nefarious taking that moment from us.

So... I told this many times and I write it one more (and not last) time.
1. IMO R&C movie is "in-universe" movie, like Secret Agent Clank Holo-movies. Is about origin of 2 most iconic heroes in 3 galaxies - so heroes must be more "family friendly", because people of Solana, Bogon and Polaris go to cinema with childrens ect.
2. 2016 game is origin story of our favorite heroes BUT this is story told by Qwark and that's why Ratchet is more childish and stupid than in 2002 game. Qwark always see Ratchet as dumb boy, he don't care about Ratchet (and Clank) [that's why Ratchet in 2002 is 15 y and in 2016 is 17 y, because Qwark didn't care]. And that's why Qwark is more heroic and intelligent - he exaggerated his qualities, because he is storyteller. That's why in game we didn't see many planets - Qwark just don't know that our duo ever be there. And finally, that is why 2016 Drek is more polite: Qwark team up with Drek (2002), so in Qwark's story Drek must be more polite, that Qwark could justify his behavior.
3. In both - movie and game, we see many differences from original. We see Fongoids and Tharpods in Solana, weapons from Grummel-Net solding in Gadgetron Vendors, old Al ect - because the story is told by Qwark (and we know that he care only about himself ;p ), also script was written by Qwark (we can deduce this from a certain graphic promoting the film and from first movie trailer). Film was recorded in Solana with actors from Polaris (bla bla fan theories xd), props are from what was at hand at moment, and Al is old, because he is old haha.
4. Nefarious. He look different, than what we see in Qwark Vid-Comic, because he's an actor. Also we know that originally Nefarious could team up with Drek, because, thanks to second Vid-Comic, we know that behind Ameboids attack on Rilgar was Nefarious. And in 2002 game Ameboid attack is fact - so Nefarious (in his humanoid version) is out there. Nefarious turned into robot middle R&C 2002 and Up your arsenal. In UYA Darla Grath tell us that Dr. Nefarious is known supervillain (he's in his robotic version at this moment), and you know why he is "known"? Because he's behind Ameboid attack. [Offtopic: "What about ameboid attack on Rilgar" hehe - star wars reference].
*5. And if we are near Vid-Comics - all Vid-comics take place before UYA and after R&C Rilgar visit, excluding first vid-comic - it is before 2002 game ;) (but that's my observations)

Well for me, I actually don't mind the personality change in the Re-imagine Drek VS OG Drek.
He has a lot more charisma and personality, OG Drek was a lot more serious and sinister in what he was trying to accomplish, and wasn't willing to let anyone or anything get in his way, not that he didn't have any personality, he was more MEAN, and Straight forward.
Same thing with the Reimagined, but different aspect, I didn't mind doctor nefarious being there, but there should have been a better dynamic between the 2 villains or he should have been saved for a sequel.
But all in all, I give the new version a 8.
Too bad we couldn't get his butt into orbit the second time.

This is less to do with Drek but something that stood out in the 1st game is for a while clank was really the only trying to do anything good, everyone else you meet is too greedy and oblivious to what's going on. Yeah ratchet does do something but it's mostly just him repaying clank for getting his ship working, he helps clank get to qwark and then he's done. At least until later where he becomes more personally invested. All of this is missing from the 2016 movie and the game

Drek from was 2002 was truly an iconic ratchet and clank villain, Dr. Nefarious is overrated and overused as f***, the guy is a joke in most of his next appearances after up your arsenal, the fact him appearing in the remake is just to shove this clown up on our throats nothing more and nothing less, we need new villains like original Drek or even deadlier than him.

I got to see the the 2016 Ratchet & Clank game was incredibly disappointing I really would like to see them do a remake of Ratchet & Clank going Commando but I hope they do it right if they decide to do it cuz basically they took out all the Kick-Ass weapons from Ratchet & Clank 1 and replace them with a whole bunch of pointless weapons and no one gave a damn about plus they made it incredibly hand-holding to where it was really insulting the intelligence of the players even little children could figure out half this crap without being constantly pandered to
If we do get a GC re-imagining, it should be better than 2016 and why? Because there's no movie tie-in therefore more creative freedom!

I think I prefer the old Drek as well, VTNVIVI. Also, no one can ever TRULY replace the late Kevin Blackton. May he rest in✌. But I was think about John DiMaggio voicing Muggshot (with a deeper and not raspy voice like DiMaggio is also known for) and I'm not so sure about the Panda King.

Honestly VTNVIVI , they should have left nefarious alone or gave him a smaller role because the first game was about drek and the duo's origin story stopping drek while getting over their own issues. Nefarious should have made an escape in the end to set up a cliffhanger(while drek was still a blarg) and have drek fight on veldin like the first game. Sure the reimagining was susposed to be different but they threw in too many big bads of the series(probably for fanservice) and had dreks whole plot be squashed down to a stepping stone for nefarious. Nefarious should have stayed in the shadows, collected data, and escaped to return another day while drek and ratchet were fighting. Thats what i think let me know what you think.

I think the original Drek is a better villain, but the truth is that he's not the main villain of the movie, it's Nefarious, and I personally like him more.

Personally I'm kind of a fan of how the movie gives Nefarious a better origin, but there could have been ways around it.
Maybe Nefarious could have been a more minor character, maybe not even being refered to by name, and by the end when we see his transformation it would be a twist for the fans at the audience and he'd be set up to be the villain of a sequel.
Bro original villian and the whole story for sure, bro that first game had a really well constructed story and character development and wasn't afraid of edgy humour I think I said this before how they should a let the series writer do his version of the script for that movie bro
I don't see a competition. Classic Drek was intimidating, threatening and only cared about himself whereas reboot Drek is just a generic bad guy who cracks a joke each time he is on screen.

My dad introduced me to ratchet and clank and I Was always able beat to that giant furbie thing and dr nefarious when I was younger but Could never beat drek, and now never will because our PlayStation 2 broke so I’m hoping there gonna remake the first 3 games so then I could replay the games and finish the first one

Honestly i believe they tried to change demographics. All of us kids who grew up with the series are adults now.... And theres no market like kids. The way they altered the original story is unforgivable but i get it. They have to appeal to that younger audience, hence sponging up the dark story.

No, actually Drek admired and trusted a lot Nefarious until the betrayal, it's Nefarious who simply manipulated Drek and the Blarg to pursue his hidden agenda and betrayed Drek in order to pursue it. Plus, Nefarious in the 2016 film and game is not remotely as comedic as his original counterpart, nor has any redeeming qualities, he's pure evil. Plus, if you heard Drek's voice in the background alerting the troops and belittling Ratchet on board of the Deplanetizer the first time, you can hear Drek's plan to create new planets for his profit agenda and create a Blarg empire in Solana, also revealing that he cares very little of the goodness and life of the inhabitants because "sacrifices must be made".
I agree. The original Chairman Drek from the 2002 game was much better.

Honestly if they do a game sequel here’s what I’m going to put into play of events of the story... they Start off the beginning of going commando put some of the up your arsenal story and put a cliffhanger of the beginning of Dreadlock then they can pick up from there...

I actually love R&C 2016 but Drek was propably the biggest change that upset me especially his eyes and skin. He went from somewhat menacing looking to looking like a joke (which makes sense in hindsight).

Hey, just a suggestion for a video I thought you could do.
You've done character videos for Coco and Tawna (for they Crash series); why not do one on Nina? There's a lot of theory potential with her character, plus there is a lot of backstory to her that a lot of people don't know about.
More Crash lore and stuff will be considered :p
I do question how they can make a sequel given how much of that reboot has mashed up all of the games stuff (particularly the fact that the robot factory is designed from Megacorps HQ). They kind of have to now make up some new things for any possible sequel to the reboot giving them more work than needed.
The way I see it, the 2016 game is a product of the movie. They can just forget that and move on to post ITN.

Definitely the old Drek over the new one. A lot of what they went with in the reboot for him just did not work out well for him at all. They reveal the plot twist near the end of the 1st game on why Drek has been destroying planets near the beginning of the reboot and turned that into a random ironic gag, we don't even see him all that much in the game either or his plan develop as we go along but instead we just hear him yell at his army in stages(which BTW adds to another issue with the reboot, the fact that characters won't stop talking in the Gameplay), and then they decided to just have Nefarious betray him and just out him from the game/movie as the main villain which came so far out of a left feel since they build him up as someone Ratchet has some beef with but instead of Ratchet giving him what he deserves ... they let ANOTHER villain do the job and right when the main characters aren't even around.

I like the 2002 version because that’s what I grew up with. The other reason why drek was more menacing and had a deeper voice haha. But for the 2016 movie Drek was more like a kids villain story than a heartless brute and well the movie was meant for kids and not really for adults like sure when I went to watch it in theaters, there were some really cool Easter eggs from the past games and Daxter lol. But I thought it was going to be dark and have that old hidden humor like the old games. But nah not even one bit except the ryno rip ya a new one. That’s the only funny thing out of the movie but over and all it should of gone with the old drek just what vivi said.
