    It's the first time I've seen this kind of video with the synthesis of a long drawing. It's phenomenal! Your work only gets better and you have opened a new direction for teaching drawing and painting online. I wish you the best and that it continues to evolve.

    I Just feel nostalgia, because years ago i read a book of Juliette Aristides, and one of the images is that Cast draw for Stephen Bauman, and now, here i am watching Stephen Bauman drawing the same Cast here.

    amazingly thorough and detailed explanation that demands a bit more concentration from the viewer, but all the aspiring artists who will ever draw or paint human head could improve massively from watching your instructions, I bet :)

    Are you aware that there is some sort of fight over straight line blocking vs renaissance style drawing of Raphael that insist on drawing what one sees directly, and attacking curves directly.
    How do balance the two approaches?

    • @stephenbaumanartwork
      @stephenbaumanartwork  Před 2 lety +3

      I prefer a synthesis rather than choosing sides. Both approaches have something to teach us.

      I was watching a video earlier about why Raphael and other masters uses curves in their drawings. He said that aside from well practiced, famous artists like Raphael had many commissions and therefore must work faster. That's why he used curves. Curves are easy to draw but less precise. If you need to draw in haste, then use curves from the start. But if you want precision and have a lot time, start with lines. We can measure angles easily with straight lines so theyre more accurate. Then gradually create the curve by making small zigzags.

    Also they tell me to do it in crosshatching technique but I don't know how to get the values right with it without making the crosshatching look messy

    • @stephenbaumanartwork
      @stephenbaumanartwork  Před rokem +1

      Cross-hatching, like most things with technique, takes time to master. It is mostly a "skill in your hands" issue. Very solvable with practice.

    I didn't understand the shadow edge line. Can you tell me what is it for?

    • @stephenbaumanartwork
      @stephenbaumanartwork  Před rokem +1

      It separates the light from the shadow and is a good strategic landmark between the contours of the subject.
