  • Today we will visit The Mělník vintage 2022 (Mělnické vinobraní)! It is the oldest and one of the largest celebrations of this type in the entire republic.
The cultivation of grapevines in Mělnik has a long-standing tradition that dates back to the 9th century. The beginnings of winemaking in Mělník are closely connected with Princess Ludmila, who was responsible for establishing the first vineyard on the slopes of Mělník north of Nedomice.
The autumn harvest was the culmination of the year-round efforts of the Mělnice winemakers since the time of the Přemyslov family. After the yield of the ripe grapes, there was traditionally a grand celebration, during which there was singing, dancing, and feasting. At the end of the early modern period, the winemakers of the princes of Lobkovice continued these traditional celebrations. The Lobkovics added a parade through the town to the folk festival, which ended at the Mělník castle, where a wine ball was subsequently held. In September, in addition to these celebrations of the autumn harvest, the festivities of St. Wenceslas were joined. We can rightly consider these festivities as the beginnings of later vintage celebrations.
During the second half of the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century, Mělník winemaking began to decline. The improvement of the situation was brought only by the Dolnobeřkovice specialists of the Lobkovice princes, who succeeded in bringing Mělnicko back to wine prominence. The revival of interest in cultivating vines on the sunny slopes of Mělník brought, among other things, a spectacular celebration in 1878, held on the occasion of the five hundredth anniversary of the death of Charles IV, considered the founder of the local wine fame. After that, it was supposed to hold regular festivities in honor of the autumn harvest.
However, the Mělnickés' wishes did not come true until 1911. Then, thanks to Sokol, the first wine festival took place. Even though the first Mělník vintage was a great success, the heightened situation in Europe did not allow such celebrations to occur. Thanks to this, the next Mělník vintage took place in eleven long years. However, it became the most famous for that, mainly thanks to the visit of President Masaryk himself.
The next vintage took place at the beginning of September 1925, after which there was another pause. It wasn't until 1931 that the Lobkovics took the initiative and organized an exhibition of grapes and wine and taught visitors about the principles of dining and the use of wine. In 1933, a wine-growing patriotic event was organized on the National Unity of North Bohemia initiative to support the Czech population in the Mělnice region. After all, the Germans were already dominating the nearby Liběchov. However, in 1937, the Mělník vintage ended for a time and was not resumed until after the Second World War. Already in 1946, the winery was held with everything. It did not lack a parade through the city, speeches, musical performances, exhibitions, tours of monuments, games, an amusement park, and festive fanfare trumpeted from the church tower. Everything was finished with evening fireworks.
In the 1950s and 1960s, the Mělník vintage increasingly became a manifestation of the achievements of socialist society. However, the vintage program did not fundamentally change compared to the First Republic's. Allegedly, one of the most successful wine festivals took place in 1967. From the beginning of the seventies, vintages were organized fully in the spirit of standardization principles.
Only after 1989 did the Mělník vintage get a new coat. Despite the shift to commerce, it remained a traditional celebration that still serves as a means of commemorating and celebrating the long-standing tradition of growing vines in Mělník and the famous winemaking past and present of the town.
Mělník is a town in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 20,000 inhabitants. It lies at the confluence of the Elbe and Vltava rivers, approximately 35 km (22 mi) north of Prague. The town center is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument zone. In the 5th and 6th centuries, many Slavonic tribes lived here, and the tribe of Pšovans created its main settlement in Mělník. Saint Ludmila (the grandmother of Saint Wenceslaus), who married the Bohemian prince Bořivoj I, belonged to this tribe. The coins of Princess Emma are the first demonstration of the existence of Mělník. In November 1274, Mělník gained the statute of town from King Ottokar II of Bohemia and later became a dowry town belonging to the queens of Bohemia. There were nine such towns in total, and Mělník was one of them.

Hi Nick! Thanks for daily 20-minute relaxation.
Sorry I rarely comments now, a lot of work, and it's not over yet. But I still can dream.
Someone dreams to play a Stradivarius violin, another would like to shoot a Dzerzhinsky revolver.
My dream is more fantastic, I'd like to synchronize with the grid a hydro generator at Miřejovická vodní elektrárna.
You have no imagine how cute this power plant is!
Well, Mnelnik is also a good town, without drunken russians, at least.

    It's a kind of magic
    It's a kind of magic
A kind of magic (No way)
    One dream, one soul
    One prize, one goal
One golden glance of what should be
    It's a kind of magic
One shaft of light that shows the way
No mortal man can win this day
    It's a kind of magic
The bell that rings inside your mind
Is challenging the doors of time
    It's a kind of magic
    The waiting seems eternity
The day will dawn of sanity (Ooh ooh ooh ooh)
Is this a kind of magic?
    It's a kind of magic
    There can be only one
This rage that lasts a thousand years
    Will soon be done
This flame that burns inside of me
    I'm hearing secret harmonies
    It's a kind of magic
The bell that rings inside your mind
Is challenging the doors of time
    It's a kind of magic
    It's a kind of magic
This rage that lasts a thousand years
Will soon be, will soon be, will soon be done
This is (this is) a kind (a kind) of magic (yeah)
There can be only one (one, one, one)
This rage that lasts a thousand years
    Will soon be done (done)
Magic (it's a kind of magic)
    It's a kind of magic
    Magic magic magic (magic)
(Magic) Aa ha ha haa, it's magic (Magic)
    It's a kind of magic
