That sounds pretty normal for those apps. I might have to message 100 people to get a dozen to reply, and then among those if I'm lucky I'll still be messaging 1 after a month.
It's honestly about numbers. Out of all the people I've messaged, only 1 person has remained in my circle. We found out that we lived in the same city. And now we're really good friends! Keep trying!
