I was at New Hampshire this past weekend and stood by the fence for the final stage run. I have never felt or heard anything like it. It was awesome! There is no TV or video that can duplicate or compare to what it feels like to stand by that fence as those cars pass.

I've love Talladega BUT, it's only 2nd in person to one thing - NHRA drag racing. When they launch......now THAT is an experience in person that is second to none!
American sport, for me, is defined by sounds. The grunts and clash of helmets in football, the squeak of shoes and swish of the net for basketball, the pop off the bat in baseball, and probably the finest one; a whole grid of NASCARs going by the fence at 200mph. Glorious.

I told my friend that the cars would go by so fast you can’t read the drivers name on the top of the car so after the cars went by running full song my friend looked at me and said hell I can’t even read the numbers on the side...
I worked security at Rockingham and it was freezing cold and very windy. I can tell you standing there you get showered with small and some bigger pieces of hard rubber going fast. Within 20 minutes you are just sandblasted and by the end of the race you will never want to be by the fence again.
Not really, the fence obstructs your view of anything other than just the area in front of you🤷♂️ if you want to see the whole track ( binoculars for the backstretch) get tower seats ( front row is best)👍
I never grew up a NASCAR fan but going to Dega made me appreciate the sport immensely, it’s like you can’t process the sound of all of the cars, wish I could’ve been at earlier races

Grew up a few blocks from the L.A. Fairgrounds and the finals and winter Nationals for 14 yrs and about 25 miles to from the old Riverside RaceWay and the Riverside had a bridge that went over the straightaway. Best seats in the house man
I've been to every event at Daytona. You want to see something fast? Watch a 1000 superbike go by at 200 mph and then brake for the infield first turn. Insane!

At the 'old' Daytona track, I had the opportunity to go right down to the fence. Prior to the pack coming, you hear and feel the rumble. Then a wall of air pushes you just before they get to you. Oh my God, the noise! It's unfreaking real. As they pass by you, they're going so fast and so close, it's impossible to distinguish who's in what car. Then, about 5 seconds after the freight train passes, you're pelted with sand, rubber, and exhaust fumes. Wait 45 seconds, and it happens all over again! Now at Daytona, you can't get right up to the fence.
That security guy is a freaking statue... He's not even fazed by the cars. Granted, this is something he sees all the time, but damn, stone cold and not even a flinch from the guy...

I thought: the TV doesn't do justice to how fast they're going, just feet from people. I loved it. However, the only race I attended was the second Brickyard 400.
So they're all stacked up at 200 trying not to crash and the Bubba's think "Hey, I'll lean over the rail and wave my hat at them so they will see me and know I'm cheering for them!" Uh, ok.
In 1986 I sat on row 25 seat 15 in the Talladega Winston 500. The flag stand was directly in front of me and I could see straight into the Flag stand . I then realized my seat was on the finish line! Stay tuned for THE REST OF THE STORY!

Cheryl, if you ever get chance visit a local short track first. I've been to few of the bigs tracks and to me it's hot and boring. Ah but a night time short track event is the ticket. Dirt tracks are also lots of fun.

I'm a total NASCAR fan but my first trip to the Indy 500 was outrageous. 230 mph screaming by the stands was incredible to see, feel and hear.
