Hi friends,
I wrote and recorded this about four months after I got out of a month on hospital with the brain inflammation.
I think the fact I can't really relate to it anymore to the point I'm struggling to say what I wanted when I wrote it is a good sign I am more content and easier to please these days.
I am 99% sure these days I just want good health and to create songs and eat good every day. Whether with a wife or not...I'll be happy creating and eating with no itching in a quiet place. The rest is a bonus if it happens.
Back when I wrote this I really wanted a girl friend and a family but then I also really wanted to be travelling around the world in a big band. And whenever I was with a girl I was thinking about my guitar and feeling very guilty that I wasn't working.
And on the band subject , I wanted to be the guitarist then I wanted to be the singer...and constantly kept switching my goal.
In reality I never wanted to be a solo artist AT ALL but couldn't find any people that would practice more than once a fortnight if that. And obviously I had a person in the business spending lots of money pushing my songs as a solo artist and I was trying to train myself to want that.
Every want was also complicated in itself for example back to girls... it wasnt just wanting and not wanting a girlfriend it was also wanting a girl smarter than myself and than wanting a girl equally intelligent because I might embarass a smarter girl and get dumped or i might bore her but then equally intelligent would be unfortunate because Im really slow and get ripped off easily and we’d struggle buying a house or other stuff because we both struggle learning and understanding stuff.
Then i could want a girl that sings but then Id disapoint her with my voice. I could want a girl I could play an instrument but then if shes insanely good Id bore her but then if doesnt play an instrument thats a big sort of connection Id wish we had.
When i play with anyone and theyre really good , its an incredible feeling so I cant imagine how good it would feel to play songs with a girl I am in a relationship with.
I also wanted to live in LA but then couldn't stand the fakery for more than a couple days.
I wanted to live in Atlanta because it was like England but not freezing but then id be so far from my parents.
I would also wish I was eating whatever i wasnt eating etc.
I wanted to beat my obsession with protecting my ears but then regretted any exposure to sound.
I wanted to go to events in LA and NYC but then at them I felt I'd regret it and wish I'd created songs instead .
I will record the vocals one day and bass guitar which I frustratingly let clashing notes ring out on (though that does make it sound more rock?).
This is a great tune !!! James you are a rock star to me !!!! I hope your health is improving !!! Someday I. going to see live in concert !!! I can't wait for that day !!!!!

Thanks. My health isn't back. Getting worse, freezing cold thighs and feet and itchy face and neck don't allow for much sleep. But I keep on editing old songs with the little focus I have. Thanks so much for still being here. I am here because of you and people like you.

Loved the bass intro right off ... and to hear the bass all through. Voice is rich - beautiful solo and song - very fresh even now. To my mind piece wonderfully Latin-influenced. I near imagined strings taking up in places as the sound is very full. Be proud of this one, James.

Thank you! It's definitely dangerous if your happiness depends on love for another person i guess.
I had a passion for excellence but it lead to depression and possibly increased illness because I haven't achieved excellence so I altered the passion to a passion to "finishing what I started" and that's helping change my life. Getting all these songs finished and being able share them after they've sat on perishable technology for over a decade is very fulfilling/relieving indeed.
The real winners though are those that find a partner full of excellence though haha ....

Hello James Bell, Songsmith- I love this! Upbeat and in motion, it is very hard to listen to this and not want to move! Epic guitar of course, and Your Vocals/ harmonies are always spot on. Excellent Work, in the opinion of this kid of the 80s! (Btw- That beginning reminded me ever so briefly of the baseline in Stevie Wonder’s Master Blaster😂)

Thanks, my health is stuck. But thankfully I have all these old songs I can work on whilst I'm in too much agony to write or record. And I don't know how on earth I played these solos. Must have a been a good day or the steroids.
I'm sorry to hear you're still suffering so. When was the photo here taken? You look great. Hopefully, your health will improve as time moves on. Remember, Tony Iommi lost all the tips of his fingers the day he was leaving the machine shop to go full time with Sabbath. Jerry Garcia had to relearn how to play proficiently again after his stroke. I understand your condition is chronic. That makes it hard in a different way. My cousin fell off his bicycle. Suffered major brain damage. He was in a wheelchair for years. Unresponsive. We didn't think he'd ever come back.. It took years. He now plays chess and was able to give his daughter away in marriage.
I'll just keep hoping this condition will leave you and you can go on with your life. I believe you'll be able to tackle all your talents successfully at that point. It may take time but the body is amazing and often heals itself. I'll keep thinking positive for you.
