  • DIY Upgrade of the front stock speakers in a Chevrolet Matiz M200 (2009 MY) with Pioneer TS-G1030F.
    I have also upgraded the stock CD / Radio unit with a Pioneer MVH-S420BT • Chevrolet Matiz stock ... and the rear stock speakers with Pioneer TS-A4670F • Chevrolet Matiz stock ... .
    My DIY skills are not that great, but the end results are great, especially with the up receiver.

      Glad it helped. I decided to use the Pioneer covers - but I suppose an option is to just fit the bare speakers and replace the OEM covers, if that works for you. :)

      @@SeanPearceUK I removed the two not used flanges and could fit the OEM covers right back. A few minutes ago I replaced the old 1-DIN radio for a 2-DIN JVC with all the modern features, It slided right in, all the stock connectors fitted, so this was a 30 minute job. Next thing is the replacement of the back speakers.

      @@SeanPearceUK Hi Sean, I have put in the JVC - KW-R930BT, as said the 2-DIN version. It fits really well. What I noticed is that in your video, you have brackets, in the 2005 Chevy Matiz there is more like a cage (don't now if that is the right word), it surrounds the whole 2-din and it fits perfectly. I just bought a gopro camera, but not yet able to make any install vids. Let me try to get the camera to work, and will do a bit of a "reversed install" vid, that will make a lot of sense ( I suppose) :-)

    It is a nice video Sir, and I like the music very much. BUT, I do think you have a problem, especialy at min 5:09, the original speakers were 8 ohm (the 40W is BS for sure), so I think you had probably 2 channels per speaker in original setup, that in case you had only those 2 speakers on the car. NOW, the new 4 ohm speakers sound louder, sure do, actually X2 loud, but the load on your CD unit, per chanel, has droped to 2 ohm ... well, may I ask ... is it still working? If it still does, that`s a fine CD unit. Sorry for my english ... but I`m sure you got the idea

    • @SeanPearceUK
      @SeanPearceUK  Před 2 lety +1

      Oh wow! I had not spotted the impedance differences between the old and new speakers! I'll have to check this out... I suppose worst case is it can damage the output stages of the receiver / CD!
      HOWEVER, it did perform OK - no noticable problems posed that I was aware of!
      BUT since then I have changed the receiver to a Pioneer Bluetooth one - and a new video on that upgrade is in order...
      I will actually double check the impedance compatibility with that too - one would hope they are "matched" or tolerant of the range!
      (*THAT* said, there has been two occasions where the new unit "shut down" and would not turn back on; until the whole unit was disconnected / reconnected and second occasion, battery disconnected and reconnected! BUT it has behaved itself in the some months since that last occurred!)

    Hi Sean great video! Can I know what adaptor are you using to connect the Pioneer with the stereo?

    • @SeanPearceUK
      @SeanPearceUK  Před 2 lety

      There wasn't an adaptor per-se. The speakers came with some exension wires, which had the appropriate "spade plugs" on one end. I used a kit I had and crimped on the blue Spades which then plugged into the sockets on the original Matiz connector - as seen around 3:30 in the video... You can see this kit and the little leads that came with the speakers about 0:10 seconds into the video. If you search Amazon for "Crimp Connector set" they're available for about £20-£30 with a selection of connectors (Rings, Forks, Spades) and a tool...

    • @SeanPearceUK
      @SeanPearceUK  Před 2 lety

      For the speakers to connect to the internal connector - one needs to add some "(male) spade connectors" to the cables included with the Speakers.
      I have a kit of spades + crimp tool which I use for many similar tasks. The alternative would be to strip and solder the "unterminated" ends of the adaptors into the original adaptor.

    2 questions whats the diameter of the speakers and does wattage matter for it to work or no?

    • @SeanPearceUK
      @SeanPearceUK  Před měsícem

      Hi, the diameter is 10cm or 4" (inches)... The wattage determines how hard they can be driven, and these easily handle the stock stereo - plus if you see other upgrades - an (more powerful) pioneer stereo upgrade too. More important is to understand the nominal 'impedance' in ohms suits your amp... These are 4 ohms (same as stock)... You. Must choose / understand for the amp your using... Using lower impedece means they are driven harder and can draw too much current from the amp. For specs see www.pioneer-car.eu/eur/products/ts-g1030f/specifications

    • @SeanPearceUK
      @SeanPearceUK  Před 3 lety

      The OEM covers can be discarded and don't look particularly nice IMO.
      The Pioneer supplied cover plates fitted perfectly, but I only used 2 out of the 4 screws; same positions as the original OEM. The Pioneer grilles (obviously?) then fitted the pioneer cover plate, and screws through the speakers to fix both in place. (i.e. they don't "snap" in place as the original OEM covers did.
      I used the same metal screw brackets as OEM (rather than the Pioneer supplied ones), and I believe, (cannot recall) the OEM screws; if not, then I used 2x Pioneer supplied ones!
      As I'd only used 2 of the 4 fixing locations, I was a little worried that they might not fit 100% and be twisted / bent or wobble or vibrate; but they did not.
      The back-up plan would have been then to work out how to use the two additional Pioneer metal tabs + screw holes (might have needed to drill the plastic in a very awkward area), but they performed impeccably as-is. 😀

      @@NewTABRIS96 As I recall - if you want the PIONEER covers, as I have, you screw the Pioneer surround down into the two screwholes... The Pioneer mesh grills "pop out" (very carefully) of the surrounds, and can be eased back in again after fitting the surrounds... (Hopefully if needed in the future, the grill can be "eased out" again if necessary - but not tried that yet!).... Just be very careful not the bend the mesh - it does "click" in nicely if you progress slowly around the edges...

    • @SeanPearceUK
      @SeanPearceUK  Před 3 lety +2

      I've not done, or even examined in detail, the back ones; but I think they're the same size (4" / 10cm) as the fronts, so the same speakers would probably work? Of course choice would be Pioneer, to match the fronts. :-)
      In my mind I've been thinking that 6" round (PTS-G1330F?) or 4"x6" oval (maybe TS-A4670F?) or similar would be better in the back, if they are 4" at the moment! That all depends on fitment of course, and "drop ins" woule be ideal for me, totally lacking DIY skilz!
      Of course price is starting to increase with these options too! :-)
