    A lot of traffic between Helsinki and Tallinn, indeed. Helsinki has some years been the busiest passenger port in Europe and - some say - possibly in the entire world with over 12 million passengers per year (2020). Love your trip, it is so true when you talk about a "vip vibes " & say it's exciting to get a ferry. I also love how it sometimes is quite difficult to find the right way to a terminal and get to the right check-in booth. Exciting, often confusing, but still so nice.

    • @mikrokupu
      @mikrokupu Před 6 měsíci +5

      Yeah a busy route. Sean & Emily used the smaller terminal in Helsinki, the bigger one is used by two other ferry companies, with bigger ferries. There have been been plans for an undersea rail tunnel between Helsinki and Talllinn, a 30min ride would create a twin city - Hellinn? Talsinki? :)

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  Před 6 měsíci +2

      @stefanholmstrom1968 Yeah there was, there is always traffic when we are running late lol. Wow we didn't realize that the port was so busy!

    I'm so glad that I found your channel! Following your trip (also the old ones) has been absolutely delightful, especially because I'm also riding with a motorbike (R1200GS). It seems that you had a great time in Finland (despite the straight roads 😄) and that makes me naturally very pleased. Perhaps I should also explore more my own country instead of traveling every year to Central Europe and the Alps. On the other hand, it's always the new and different, what fascinates people. Looking forward to your oncoming videos, keep up the good work! Kind regards, Risto

      The traffic jam in the port of Tallinn is due to the fact that a new tramway is being built from the Airport to the Old Port. In a year, the tram will be able to travel directly from the airport to the harbor and vice versa. The construction of this tramway covers the entire city center.
      These large passenger ferries are like multi-story mobile shopping malls with restaurants and entertainment. With 2 car decks and 8 passenger decks.

    Helsinki-Tallin route is indeed a busy one. The ship we saw pulling in (Gabriella) was actually coming from Stockholm Sweden. But from a second port in Helsinki there are two other ferry connections to Tallin. Total of 4 ships sail the Helsinki-Tallin route and 4 ships are on the Helsinki-Stockholm route as well.

    Now I'm continuing to watch your trip. In this episode it was nice to see familiar places in Helsinki and Tallinn. My last time in Viking XPRS was in last spring. Usually I use Eckerö Line Finlandia because the west harbor of Helsinki is better located for me, less than a half hour drive from the port to my home and vice versa. This year Tallinn has had a LOT of road construction. Somebody told me that they're going to renovate all tram rails. I spent two weeks in the Baltics in July, but didn't spend time in Tallinn at all. Just drove from/to the port.
    Would you please add the recording date to your videos in the future?

      Hi, it was cool to ride through Helsinki city centre and a ferry journey is always exciting when on tour -even more so when the ferry is to a new country for us. We didn't realise there were multiple ports i think this one was one of the first that came up when we searched. Yeah there was a lot of construction in Tallinn but the modern part of the city looked fantastic! Really cool designs and nicely laid out so when the work is finished it will look great. Actually now you mention it they were laying tracks outside the hotel in the direction of the port so maybe that was for the tram.

    When I lived in Helsinki in the late 1980's, Tallinn didn’t exist. It was only an abstraction. Tallinn was part of the Soviet Union.
    Unlike taking booze cruises to Stockholm, pretty regularly, nobody, not ever, not once, said "Let's go to Tallinn". Never.
    There was this omnious ferry, Georg Ots, in the harbor going to Tallinn. But going to the USSR did not enter our mind. There'd be all the hassle with visas, passports and stuff. The USSR was just plain creepy.
    Haven't been these still but the difference is huge. Three ferries a day, just few hours, to a place which back in the day existed only on the map.
    Going there was pretty much as realistic as going to the moon.
