April 12th, 2014, they came up with "boy in luv", showing young boys falling in young love. And April 12th, 2019, they came back with "boy with luv". They wanted to say that they grew up to high level and they now want to protect their small precious ones such as their fans with mature love. That's why they slightly changed their title.

Halsey and bts have been friends since 2017 and halsey has a song called suga’s interlude ft suga on her album. Also there is another version of boy with luv, which has more Halsey in it. You can hear it in the boy with luv,army with luv version. Also they were paying homage to dancing in the rain
There are some compilation videos that show their friendship. They've interacted a lot, I think DT would like to see that. Halsey gave the boys friendship bracelets as a gift and BTS gave her a sparkly mic just like the ones they use.

The movie theatre they’re in for a plus second when j-hope starts his verse has the posters for singing in the rain on the walls, so it’s definitely a vintage throwback feel

Haha you were spot on about a lot of things! Halsey is kind of a metaphor for ARMY in the MV and also there are nods to the movie Singing in the Rain. Fun fact, the Korean title for this track translates to “A Poem For Small Things”. RM explained that he felt their plate had become too big and that it was time to decompress and look at the small things that they are appreciative of. Hence the lyrics describing that they are so high up because of the love and support ARMY have given them, but they still want to meet at eye level like they always have. It definitely shows that they have grown from the high school crush they were singing about in Boy in Luv. Some people might think it’s too pop, but I think BWL is such a feel good song and incapsulates BTS’ Persona of wanting to give people hope and happiness.
That's very accurate! RM always does live streams after album releases and explains a bit about each song and the whole process of making an album. It would be great if people watched what he has to say instead of making assumptions about the meanings of the songs and other things...

I think Linus meant Nicki wasn't on-site with the boys, they didn't film together, her part was added post-production and she recorded from another location.

This is the first MV in June last year that got me into BTS (I am never into k-pop then).. I was shocked over the pink theme for a boygroup. Curious over this group, I watched DNA and was amazed by their mv. Then I went further to explore Fake Love, totally awed by the lyrics and the performance and there I am, falling super deep into the rabbit hole. My friends were shocked over my love for BTS, cuz I am in my 40s 😂

Like you said Halsey seems to represent ARMY especially in the ARMY MV. version.

If you really think about it the fact that BTS based the visuals of this MV on “singing in the rain” perfectly aligns with the theme of MOTS.
Over identifying with ones persona is to ignore your shadow, to cover up anything you struggle with and instead focus on the love, adoration, and praise that your mask (your persona) receives. So in a sense, whenever the boys’ ego’s choose to identify their persona as their “self” it’s the equivalent to ignoring ones shadow (all that we hate about ourselves or characteristics that society disapproves of) or choosing to sing in the rain.

Boy in Luv was one of their first songs, and its about young and cute love crushes. There is another version on Spotify that has Halsey singing louder. If you look at the background where Halsey is at the beginning, it's a movie theatre. There are posters all over that is for Singing in the Rain movie. They directly pay homage to the movie. The white outfit and fedora RM wears is very similar to what Gene Kelly wore in the movie. If you look at the stage Gene Kelly performed on, its almost the same exact one RM stands on in the video. JHope danced around the pole like Gene and RM holds an umbrella. Other symbols as well. There is a part when they dance into the blue area that V stops and balances on his toes, like Gene did as well. The movie, basically, is about being on stage and switching between your persona and ego...wearing that mask before the public. It's about realizing being in love is so different when you are filled with love from those around you because you love yourself and you are loved in return.
yeah...this entire song is about army. it's kind of difficult to understand, but every single lyric is about bts' journey up until now and how they realize it's all about army. we filled them with love. we gave them wings. bts rose so high because of us, and they almost got too close to the sun (the story of icarus) but armys saved them. the entire persona album is about bts' relationship with army.
The whole "vintage" look of the music video was actually inspired from the 1952 musical, Singin' in the Rain!! I'm not too familiar with the film but I've been told that the film is about exploring the different personas of an entertainer, which makes a whole lot of sense seeing as how the song Boy with Luv is under BTS' album, Map of the Soul: Persona. There's lots of nods to the film, from the yellow couch they've all jumped on, the piano set with Suga, the lamp posts and the whole scene with RM in the white suit and fedora!
Suga is a fantastic writer. From Agust'd to First Love to Converse High, his lyrics are strong yet beautiful at the same time. FYI-Converse High is the first time I became pregnant by Suga. You'll need to see the lyric video first to understand. 🤰🏽💜

At the end, if you have ever watched "Singing in the Rain" it's at the end. The whole movie is about bringing movies into using sound. But they have to put a modern part into their movie. So Gene Kelly plays a tap dancer wanting to make it big on Broadway. It's a wonderful, and one of the most iconic dance scene in any movie in history. He dances with legendary Cyd Charisse. If it helps Cyd was in a video with Janet Jackson "Alright", along with Nicholas Brothers and Cab Calloway. Like I said it is iconic.

The bright mv ties to the topic of Persona. That's part of the Persona, Ego and Shadow of one's mind (Jungian psychology). Basically, this whole album talked about the Persona, which is the public image of one, so BTS in the case of this mv. The newest album, Map of The Soul: 7 talks about Ego and Shadow which are hidden deeper in one's mind.

DT, There was a song in 2014 by BTS called boy in Luv it was like a schoolboy crush kind of thing and then in 2019 BTS came out with boy with Luv music video that talks about how BTS loves their fans and how BTS and ARMY will always support each other and if you notice in the music video their choreography is actually much easier to learn and that was purposely that way because BTS wants their fans to be able to dance with them and if you notice they weren’t on the stage they were outside of the theater dancing because they wanted to pay tribute to their fans!💜 BTS did this tribute song for their fans and the love they have for their fans and vice versa! WOW! I was totally surprised at your insight! You are so keen! Yes, It is "singing in the rain". I heard it's a story of an unknown singer becoming famous with a help and support of a girl. It is the way they are seeing army. Yes, Harlsey is a metaphor for army. I personally like the part of RM saying, I want to fly with the Icarus's wings to YOU and not to the sun. Icarus from Greek mythology. He flew too high with the wings made of wax and at the end fall off. As an older person than RM, it wonders me how can be a young man of mid 20s so wise and thoughtful ! This song is to me a confession of BTS to army. So it has comfortable, pleasant, lovely atmosphere. This song makes my feeling always happy.

Something RM told about this song (not the exact words, just what I remember): this is a continuation for the "boy in luv" mv. Now that they have grown up, they realise that love is in the little things like asking that person "how was your day" or knowing the little habits that the other person has. Therefore "boy with love" is a more mature love, how adults will see love in contrast of "boy in luv": how you see love as a teenager. (Of course the hole meaning is deeper, this is just something he said in an interview).

I am amazed that you haven't heard this song before. It held the record for most youtube views in the first 24 hours until very recently. It was written as a love letter to ARMY and is the lead single from their MOTS Persona album that was released last April (The album debuted at #1 on BB). This is the first song I ever saw them perform. They debuted this song on SNL on APR 13... I had never heard of them before that show so it's really special to me and a lot of other people who also saw them for the first time that night. It started the MOTS era. I don't know if you ever saw any of the Bookish Theories videos on BTS song.... she has a good one on this.

There's a funny story why this song was tittle with Boy with luv.. First- this song is the answer or counter part of boy in luv.. 2nd-작은 것들을 위한 시 means a poem for small thing.. however Jimin was worried about the song tittle since its too long.. (작은 것들을 위한 시) that's why RM used boy with luv.. as the english tittle of the song..
If you heard their song Boy In Luv, Boy With Luv is kind of the grown up version. BiL was about teenage love and crush. It feels too strong and very in your face. But BwL is growth, you find out there are more important things. It's the little things about the other person that actually matter and make you truly fall in love with them.
