MARIN Koza sorry bud i was first
@Ansh Shah: Nooooo, just missed it QQ
the funniest thing in the i3-i7 lineup is that the i3's and pentiums support ecc memory but i5s-i7s don't (look it up on the intel ark), the thing is that 1151 motherboards don't officially support ecc, but a lot of them will work with ecc memory even if they don't endorse it, so you just have to look around
Several thousand dollars worth of CPUs makes an amazing thumbnail. Linus needs to recreate this with all of his
Well almost all linus tech vid were shown overkill pc components like Holy S**t vids
Linus could put several cars worth of CPUs on a table.
meanwhile photonic who are the only Linux authority and a top tier reviewer had to buy Intel cpus which weren't consuner
I think you mean phoronix
yup, he has 2xE5-2699 v3 (2x4500$) ,2xE5-2699 v4 (2x4100$) and much more lol
he just rapped at the end. rapped like Eminem. lol . Greg so when you recording your first album. you even playing guitar right
xD
Cereal Killer
ZhoustFrags whom are you saying
LOL... He was flizzzzowin! XD
I have been waiting a very long time for someone to release a comprehensive video such as this. It's a bit sad that AMD got dumped on, though. I hope Zen brings them back from the darkness of the mire.
I have a question for you, Greg; When you finish your tests and
reviews of AMD Zen processors, will you update this video to include
them? In this way, it will remain as an ultimate guide, even in the
future. Thanks for making this video! You're epic!
I can't speak for him, but I'm pretty sure he will update his recommendations every now and then and also make individual recommendations in the videos of his testing/comparisons when Zen is on the table.
On paper Zen should architecturally tend to perform between Broadwell and Skylake clock-to-clock, but closer to Skylake than Broadwell. That's also where the currently released tests put it.
Basically you lose AVX2 and some Brainiac elements versus Skylake that yield marginal returns for something that has most of the performance while requiring less transistors. Given how limited the diminishing margin returns the massive overhaul Skylake represents over Broadwell yielded, Zen should in principle be a reasonably option although Intel is liable to maintain the crown.
he didnt dump on AMd...he said with Zen just around the corner he can't recommend any AMD at the moment. (in other words, wait for ZEN if you want AMD...)
Didn't AMD come out and say that it's gonna be around haswell level performance but we can expect unlocked CPU's across the board for low prices?
your video came in just time before i bought a wrong cpu. you just earned yourselve a subcriber.
Welcome aboard!
your channel is really starting to grow fast, I remember just a few months ago you were under 100k,great job
Spitting fire in that outro man! Great video, just purchased a 6600k last week. :)
Still waiting for Zen..
yeah hope Zen destroys the 4770k or comes close
it may need to considering kaby lake is even closer, plus cannonlake coming nextyear on 10nm
I'm talking about the highest end of Cpu from Zen. Even if it is comparable to the 3770k I would be happen. AMD needs to comeback because it is really boring seeing 6700k 1080 on PcPartPicker 75% of the time
+Ivtrix You're messing with my Zen thing here, man.
it will come down to pricing
@11:50 rap God
I try.
let mclovin rap too lol
I really like the way you explain your views on all your videos , keep it up Greg
I just wanted to say how much I love your video quality, despite being a relatively small channel. It is great and keep it up!
do a whole video where you talk super fast like u did for the end
play this video at 2x
thats rapping
I always watch youtube videos at 1.5x speed.
will the real ScienceShady please stand up
I know AMD has new chips coming out soon and the FX chips don't have all the Bells and whistles of the Skylake chips but one could argue the case that a fx6300 or a fx 8320 still hold good value as a chip that is a little older when looking at just gaming of course its easy to reccomend a Intel i series but if someone is just looking to do simple encoding and make videos on a Budget I would say AMD still offers a good product a tad bit dated yes. but hopefully and I know this has been said a lot now but hopefully AMD can get some of that market share back from Intel and get us those sweet fps.
This came at the perfect time for me thanks for your hard work man I know researching all of this takes a lot of time/effort.
I have been waiting for a video like this for quite some time thanks greg
Where did you get that white strix v.card?
Watch my Walter White build log. Card's in this video.
The FX 6300 is the best option nowadays for cheap 1080p gaming, especially if you are building your rig from used parts and have a budget of about 400. A new Gigabyte mobo and used CPU go for about 95 on Ebay if you are a bit lucky. If you have more money and want an amazing performer at a bargain, just get a used Intel 5820K CPU for about 250. Sure, a X99 mobo will be expensive but totally worth it. Price to performance, I wouldn't recommend any of the new Intel 6000 series CPUs. They are an incremental upgrade. A used i5 4690k would be a better price/performance than the 6500 or even 6600 depending on workloads.
LOL
bruh
The FX6300 is basically worthless new, and even used it's a little expensive, considering it loses in single core performance to some of the faster Core2 Duos.
+StonePilot Nah the fx-6300 is alot faster than a pentium g4520 but you can upgrade it to a better cpu atleast
If all you do is play games and being a mouth breather, sure the i3 6100 is a good choice. But in raw numbers, the FX6300 is only 4/5 FPS on average behind the i3. And it has 6 cores, double bandwidth, and a much lower price tag nowadays. You can tackle diverse tasks (video rendering, multithreaded computations, etc.) with this CPU and easily OC it to 4.8GHz. I've seen it going even for 55 on ebay. Can't beat that. And having to buy new RAM just to get the CPU when you already have 8/16GBs of DDR3, again makes no sense.
Nice, quick, and informative video Greg. It's nice to see your channel is growing nicely, well deserved. Sidenote: X99 is useful for those that need a higher number of pcie lanes, as well the extra cores for running VM's. Nonetheless a typical gaming/quasi productivity rig will likely never be used enough for such purposes as to require a higher SKU chipset, so that makes you very spot on with your conclusion.
My favorite video you have done. I almost didn't click on it because I have ran through all of the same processors and didn't think I would get much out of watching, but I was wrong. Awesome job man!
If I owned Intel this is what I would do:
Celeron: 1C/2T
Pentium: 2C/4T
Core i3: 3C/6T
Core i5: 4C/8T
Core i7: 6C/12T
SkyMix_RMT Celeron would be better with 2C/2T
What about 4C/4T?
Also, @Exynos FTW is right, 2C/2T would be better.
why'd you even make a single core cpu nowadays?
SeventySeven
Cheap office PCs? But I agree, a 2 Core would be better and could be just as cheap.
Single-Core in 2016 is unacceptable. Leave it at 2C/2T.
Another difference: Base every model out of the same architecture for extra performance benefit.
I have the 6600 merely because it came in a z170 motherboard combo and 8gb ram. Apparently no one wants to buy it apart so they have to get rid of it like that instead lol. I'm waiting for some extra cash fora gpu then I'll see what it can really do.
LOL
Similar deal with me, I got a 6600 for the same price as a 6500. I ordered a 6500 but fortunately for me they only had 6600's left since no one was buying them, so I got a free upgrade.
Schnitzel PC master race ftw
Thanks for this video, it answered a lot of questions I had about processors. I feel more confident about purchasing one now and building a pic.
Thanks for watching!
Im really enjoying in your content...you honestly deserve much more subs.
Where was the AMD Athlon? I feel like it should've been on this list for budget builds.
Not mentioned because I don't recommend them. The G4400 outperforms even overclocked Athlons. Terrible single-core performance.
Why would you buy a previous generation Haswell CPU now?
4790k even outperforms 6700k in some circumstances for some weird reason, but normally equal in performance.
so gaming and some content creation/streaming at 1080p i5? right now i have a FX-8350
yes. as long as you are not doing content creation or streaming mainly, go for the i5 6500.
Würfelcyka I would like to mainly stream and post the vods onto CZcams, that's my plan right now.
As a FX-8350 user, you can do all those things on it as well. No need to change the platform. At least not yet since Zen is almost launched.
I went from an FX-8320 on water at 4.5 to an i5-6600k on air and the 6600k annihilates the AMD chip. Cooling alone makes it worth it
Are you finding the 8350 can't keep up with demand? It's still a fine CPU for 1080p gaming and media creation.
Your videos are always informative and very well put together! Awesome work bro
Your channel grew fast, dude! You deserve it because your content is on point and so organized.
DAMN IT I JUST BOUGHT A AMD FX 4300
LMFAO
Sho Co2 you fucked up m8
shiiet son
8370...:DD
$50 Pentium that beats it's single core and is really close to its multi core... except it has 2 cores with no HT. lol
Hey, stop giving me buyers remorse for getting an i3. :(
The facts don't care about your feelings :(
The facts are rude!
So is the sandstorm.
ouch. that looks like it hurt
:P
Yet another fantastic and deeply explanatory video Greg. Well done!
You did an amazing job! Well done and well edited.
I got the I7 6700k. Because I do basic youtube. And play Arma..... lol
lol
lol
lol
lol
lol
i3 6100 Gtx 1060 6GB ftw :-)
i5 + rx 480 4gb
got my gtx 1060 for just €200,- and the i3 for €100,- so i think that's the best bang for the buck. I was waiting for the nitro+ rx 480 but the wait was just too long man :p
Yeah the cards took way long to come in stock. Yeah quite the best bang for the buck you got there
You should have paired with 3gb 1060 since you are paired with an i3 processor you could have save 50bucks for that
+Moessie900 Fucking awesome built! I have same lol
Very solid video buddy! Helped me pick out what i want for my build. Thanks Subbed and Thumbs up!
hey. love all your videos man. keep up the good work.
Hey man... It was a really good explanation. I really enjoy watching your videos.
You did a good job there mate. Cheers for the video and the info.
Great video Greg, thanks for teaching us!
Helped me so much! Thanks Greg!!
Great video! Your videos helped me choose my components and this video is a great summary for beginners picking a CPU.
I just purchased a 6600k with a 1070 for mostly gaming with a little bit of content creation and must say I'm very happy with my choice.
I love your videos Greg! Keep em coming!
Thank you for putting the links in the description to the videos you mentioned in this video. don't know if it's possible or if I can't figure it out, but i can't follow in video links when on mobile (which is where I watch most of my CZcams videos). so many don't do this and it's really annoying having to try and find the video they are talking about.
This video was super useful. Almost every other video I have watched until this point, completely fails to give me a basic reliable comparison between hardware that I can actually use. Thanks a lot.
Your channel is awesome, we can only wait a bright future for your channel
It's good content, I subbed after the guest visit on TGW. Could you do a quick explanation about graphics card performance when going from a single monitor to multiple monitors?
you did a good job pal ps love your instructive vids even if im an advanced user they are great content to watch :)
Nice video, it's nice to get an unbiased opinion based on facts and experience with the CPU's for once, which is why i subscribed. I'm curious though, what's your opinion on the 5820k?
Thanks for this video, man! Here in Brazil hardware can get too damn expensive, so we have to reaaaally weight our options... and ur video helps us really analyze our options. Thanks again!
Good info, I have been trying to decide which cpu to throw into my next build
I am going to be doing a lot of graphics / video editing / gaming on this machine so I think the 6700k might be the ticket
Loved it. This is a staple video. Does CZcams do Stickies?
Excellent video amigo. I'm currently looking to build a pc with the intention of playing current titles at 1440p on high settings with no less than 60 FPS. I know there is hardware out there that will support these graphic levels but I'm more concerned about which CPU to invest in. I'm looking to buy the best future proof CPU I can afford with the hopes of not having to replace it down the road while keeping my standards intact. Video cards are an inevitable replacement but that is fine and I've had good success with only upgrading my GPU in the past while not upgrading my processor. I'm currently running a 970 with an old i7 950. I'm able to play games at a decent frame rate with this combo but have probably been helped tremendously by my gsync monitor. Your recommendation of the 6700 looks like a great option but should I consider the Kaby Lake 7700? Thanks for your time
Quality video. Keep up the good work!
Subscribed. Very good information. Thx
Very helpful video, nice pacing for a complete guide
I honestly learn so much from your channel. Most educational tech channel
Finally someone has some real talk about CPUs!!! And acknowledges the base clocking aspect of Skylake! Great video Greg, keep it up!
Thank you for this. I am building a new gaming pc this year. I have an FX 8350 and did not know if I should get the i3-6100, i5-6400 or i5-6500. You helped me decide on the 6500...now just have to decide on you r480 or 1060 6th edition
Great video. I love how you'd actually made sense choosing the i5-6500 whilst every other tech channel uses an i7 or the 6600k for any gaming build.
Awesome video! I live in Canada and PC components are priced like airplane parts. I've been putting off buying my 1st CPU choice (i5 6400) because I'm trying to save up for it (it's 250$+ here!). I've never been able to save up enough to pay for it in one shot though. The thing is, I can afford the i3-6100 at 150$ and all my other components would cost less. Do you think I should just get my PC build off the ground with the i3 and hopefully one day be able to save up for the i5? I've been pushing it back for almost a year now. Thanks for all the great content!
Awesome vid!!! I'm planning on building a new gaming rig, Majority of my builds are amd (fx 6300, 8320 and 9590 - i know, im a sucker for pain.) So anyway, I want my next build to be an intel, I know it will be an i5 6600k. But I was just wondering, is it worth the wait for the new zen amd CPUs? I not some kind of amd fanboy, its just that ive used them for so long without issue and they're budget friendly. And I do understand the bottleneck issues, i have a gtx 1070 and my fps are well above 60 @ 1080p, but i know i missing out the full potential for the gtx 1070 due to cpu. Especially when i have a 144hz monitor.
Awesome!!! Doing any GPU comparison vids? Like the Asus Rog Strix rx 480 vs XFX rx 480.
Very informative! Picking up a 6600k instead of the 6700k now! Thanks!
Thanks for doing this video, struggling between 6600k and 6700k for primarily gaming.
6600k
Love it! 1 question. What is the LG monitor you have in the background?
Great work and much appreciated...THANK YOU!
I have a i3 4150 3.5ghz and perform amazing! but after this video Im considering to upgrade to a xeon v3 1230v3! excellent job men keep going forward! cheer from NYC!
Love your videos, any chance you could compare the i7-5775C to the -6700K? Keep up the great videos.
Very nice video, I always love the way you present facts. Question though, I currently have an i3 6100 (got it on sale at Microcenter for $90, only reason I got it) and an R9 270x. Would it be worth upgrading to a 6600k, especially since I already have a Z170 board?
yes, you will see a great improvement with a 6600k :D
You're channel is fucking dope. So glad I subbed. Keep up the good work.
Great video! Any thoughts on which would be beat for virtualization? Other than gaming and audio video production, what are other use cases for power users that would warrant the higher end parts?
I've argued with Greg on the comments on some videos, but this video is spot on. Worth the watch if you can't decide what CPU to buy. Thumbs up! Though I'd suggest H81 + i5 4460 + cheap DDR3 RAM if you're really on a budget. Save up for the graphics card next time. You can play CSGO at lowest settings at 30-60 fps using Intel HD.
well science studio you did a great job at makeing subscribers when i subbed you had 50 thousand now you have 140
Really interesting video. Please do one of these Videos with graphics cards. ;)
10/10 great job on the video soo much great info keep it up bro
this video is definitely my favorite for the week good job
Thanks! It was very informative.
Well said Greg.
I do gaming and content creation on my pc (built march 2015), and with an overclocked 4790K (4.7GHz) and I've never felt I needed or wanted anything more.
I think your auto-focus was going a bit wild whenever you showed footage of yourself talking, and it was kind of distracting. Other than that, I think your video is amazing and has great information! I'm glad to see that your channel is growing, you certainly deserve it!
Nothing I can do at this point.
Great review! Agree with all! 6600K here @4.5 and great for my development and gaming. Probably wish I had the 6700K, but when I managed to get the 6600K for $199 back in April, it was not worth the extra $150 (at that time) for the 6700K. I see my current CPU in the 60-75% utilization while gaming, and that's getting a little close to the max. Having that little extra hyper-threading room of the 6700K would be nice. Considering the 6700K has now dropped below $300 at some stores (Microcenter $289), I would lean towards that CPU now. I think that $90 difference is still not needed now, but provides greater longevity.of the CPU.
Great vid. When I think of cpus I am reminded of how lucky I am. I ordered 6600k for my personal rig and Best Buy sent me a 6700k instead!
Thanks for this!
Watching this convinced me that the 6500 is the one I'll get for my first PC build.
Just a quick question, which motherboard should I pair the 6500 with?
This is a really good guide - thanks! Haha thanks also for not saying "Science Studio" like 5 times at the end. ;)
I only say it once at the end in every video.
love the details!
I love the way you presented this video.
Great video. What mobo do you recommend with the i5-6500?
Hi
You make very nice videos, i appreciate it, but when you make a video like "How many Skylake core you need for gaming?" please answer the question! Congratulations for the 100.000 subs! i watch all of your videos and i learned a lot . Thank you.
The question was clearly answered in that video. Pay attention. The answer was three.
Ok. :) maybe i was sleeping ,,,
Thank you for your guide. Have you made a guide on how to overclocking?
These are great videos. I wished I'd starting watching this channel before my last build (I'm a gaming enthusiast with 3 kids 2 dogs and a cat, so I like 500-600 dollar builds). Keep it up!
Thanks Christopher!
You've said in several videos you are studying engineering. What kind? I'm an EE working in Propulsion Control Systems for Textron Aviation. I enjoy my job, but I think what you are doing with your channel is way more fascinating and probably more rewarding. I hope you can make a good career at it (if you're not already).
I just need to play FIFA 17 and GTA V at ultra/high. I'm going for the i5 6500. Any suggestions for the motherboard(I'm thinking a gigabyte H170 since no oc) and GPU? Thanks.
P.S. That was one of the best videos on CPU buying guide I've ever seen.
haha I'm using an fx 4300 and for the time being I'm sitting at 4.4 Ghz at stock voltages. Just waiting to see how Zen turns out before I upgrade one way or the other. This is a good video though, glad you made it.
Thanks for making my choice on the i5-6400 not look bad when I got it for a deal.
Excellent video, Greg! I never see anyone recommending a Pentium over an i3 when in reality, an i3 isn't worth twice the price. +1 for that! Also liked how you were honest about the X99 platform. Seriously considered upgrading to X99 when I realized I'm no where near using the full potential of my 6700k! On top of all this, the video quality was top notch as always. Thanks for teaching us more and more about computing and tech in general. Keep up the good work!
Great video. i5-6500 would've been my pick too.
Can I ask, why is it that nowadays games are becoming so much more CPU-intensive? I dunno if it's always been that way but I always thought CPU didn't really matter for gaming until now I watched some DigitalFoundry videos showing how much modern graphics cards can be bottlenecked even by powerful older CPUs
You're a really good tech youtuber i can say that!
I think recommanding an i5 for gaming can be a bit dangerous. For the majority of games it's fine due to the heavy lifting done by the GPU. I think there is a high chance people looking for a CPU right now want to play BF1 which can get tricky even with an i5 6600K. Other than that great video as always. Keep up the good work Greg!
Just switched from a AMD 4300 to a i5 6400.(Loving it) One thing I noticed is the bios boot time. All AM3+ boards ive seen take 8-12 seconds more time just get out of the bios? 10/10 Video too!
phenomenal video... you saved me a lot of work
great video but... could of waited like a month since kaby lake is coming soon........ not like its a big upgrade but might have been worth the wait. Want to know what you think of the 7700k and if it would be worth it with the new z270 chipset motherboards.
Super good video. Idk about anyone else, but I am incredibly excited for Zen.
