    For supports, I tie a length of string to the middle of a twelve inch length of garden cane. I pass the string up through a hole in the bottom of the growbag until the cane is against the bottom of the bag. The string can then be tied taut to a support above the plants.

  • @LindaCasey
    @LindaCasey Před 7 lety +12

    Thank you. I like the idea of growing bags, but what I thought about doing instead was to draw the string all the way around the bag and tying it to itself so that it wouldn't pull on the plant. The weight of the growing medium should make the string taut.

    That was really helpful, but can you advise just how much feed to give them each, week etc, etc, and if you have to dilute it before you put it into your hose lock container.

    • @LoveTheGarden
      @LoveTheGarden  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Joan, you should start feeding only once they start to flower and fruit, otherwise you might send all the feed to the leaves and not the fruit. Once they are fruiting and flowering, feed once a week and follow the instructions on your feed container for how much to dilute etc.

    • @jimmyrustler8983
      @jimmyrustler8983 Před rokem

      It gives the plants just a bit more growing medium and stability.
      I use growbag halos, they have a reservoir that holds 4 pints of water each, and handy staking points. I also plant a marigold in each halo with the tomatoes as well. 👍

      Usman Khan last year I unknowingly planted a tomato plant in a rather shallow bed (probably 8-10 inches) up off the ground. The plant got enormous. When I pulled it up in the late fall, the roots had turned and went sideways across the entire bed (about the size of a twin bed). I was amazed!

    I've read reports of these growbags being contaminated with weedkiller:
    www.which.co.uk/news/2017/02/which-reveals-the-best-growing-bags/
    Was this an isolated problem?
    Can we be confident that Levington TOMORITE GIANT tomato planter growbags don't have weedkiller? Are all batches now tested before they are sold? I'm using 4 at present with 12 plants which seem to be thriving.
    Many thanks.

    I’m first timer and this certainly looks an easier method than most I’ve looked at. 👍🏻What size are those square pots please?

    • @AntonGully
      @AntonGully Před rokem +1

      If I was a betting man I'd say they're 7cm square pots but anything in the 7cm to 9cm or 2.5" to 3" would do. Typically you'd buy the seedlings the size they are in the video and it'll be whatever pot they come in, otherwise you'd have been growing those from seed from early march to be plating into bags for mid-April.
      And for complete simplicity look at tomato halo pots - makes watering and staking out a piece of cake.

      Mo M keep damp but don’t overwater or else the tomatoes when fruiting will harden then split; also if outside, use the plastic cover that is turned under as a protection so rainfall doesn’t oversaturate the compost in the bag
