- Martha "Red" Tierney used to be a hot-shot reporter, but that was before alcohol took over her life. One morning Martha's son Jonathan leaves for school, stopping first to meet his father for breakfast. But Jonathan never meets his dad. Instead he is picked up by Lawrence a pedophile who has been watching him. Now Martha must overcome her alcoholism and her bitterness towards her ex-husband and use her old investigative skills to find her son before it's too late.

I am a retired educator and when we taught Family Life Education one section was on inappropriate touch, etc. I extended with feeling uncomfortable leave or run, tell an adult, if your pet or an animal does not want to enter a place or go near someone,etc. get out out there.

The book "The Gift of Fear" by a criminologist explains that feeling. It's information which we register unconsciously while we're engaged in something else. It's that unconscious info that leaves that unsettled feeling and why we should always heed it.
Christopher Reeve really gave a performance that was scary, but magnificent. He will be sadly missed. RIP Christopher Reeve

My kids both walked around our city alone and with friends. Nobody ever approached them. They know how to handle themselves.
You are far more likely to be victimized by a family member or someone you trust. Strangers are not interested in your kid. We only hear about stranger abductions because they're unusual.

You have a baby, you love it so much, you'd give your life for your baby without any hesitation and you just worry and worry and worry when your baby is small. The worrying doesn't go away, it grows together with your baby. Sometimes you question if you were right in the head bringing your baby into this world where everything is nothing like it should be.

You can find out how many children have gone missing every year and only then you'll realise that there was nothing about them on TV or in the papers. ☹️

To Kim, I agree with you one hundred percent. When I was a teenager growing up, after school everyday we all hanged out playing sports even with my girl cousins and their girlfriends, and you would see kids riding their bikes, playing sports outside of their houses and neighborhoods and it was safe. But unfortunately nowdays they can't play outside, unless with real close supervision with everything that's going on and definitely don't talk to strangers or go anywhere with anybody, they have to be taught to say no, run away and scream for help. Wow. This was a good movie. I loved Christopher Reeves as an actor in many other films as well. "Somewhere in Time" was my favorite. We can tell our children NOT to talk or go with strangers, but it can still happen. When my kids were little I would act out different scenarios of things that a person might say or do to get them to go with them and what they should do. It worked for me.
"It worked", because no one tried.

Intense acting from everyone and a concentrated directing too! Yes, Mr. Reeve had the courage to take that disgusting character and what a performance he made! Very good movie!

I hate that everyone sort of underestimated Christopher Reeve because he played Superman. This movie proves that he could do so much more than that. He will continue to be missed.
Yes he will. But it wasn't just Superman, it was the fact, that he was a good, clean, generous, man, who dearly loved his wife. Very hard to find.

I remember seeing this when I was about 8. It scared the living Daylights out of me and it still does now as an adult.
I saw it when I was ten. The subject matter was so insane for a network television show, that I half believed my mind made it up. So I looked it up and am still amazed they would show this on primetime tv back in the 90's.

There are some truly powerful and honest scenes in this movie, and both Meredith Baxter and Christopher Reeve are very fine. Baxter, especially, should have been Emmy-nominated.
Christopher Reeve's acting ability shined brilliantly in this movie as it was an emotional rollercoaster with an equally fine star cast from beginning to end.
Christopher Reeve gave me chills. I kept looking over at my six year old to make sure he was still there. I've loved Meredith Baxter Birney also since Family Ties...another excellent performance from her.

I think I was more scared for that boy than his own parents. I couldn't stop crying and worrying through the whole movie. I know what they were going through. The parents, because I lost a child and the boy, because I've also been a victim of child abuse. This was a great movie by far. It took me through so many emotions. And I never thought that Christopher Reeve could play such a role. He was terrifying brilliant.

I saw this on TV when I was around ten years old, and the subject matter and visuals were just surreal for my young mind. I was hooked on this crazy ride from beginning to end. These shows were normally dull dramas for adults at primetime. I'm also reminded that the 80's and 90's were far from wholly family friendly times for TV. The War of the Worlds tv series is another anachronism that featured some scenes of extreme violence normally hard to find for that time period.
Extremely well made and thought out film. with the ending of the Mother realising her demons and sourcing help for it just added Polish to the overall film. Thanks fir the upload, 2nd time I have seen this and it has stood the time with it's very Good acting and Script.
A lot of courage for Christopher Reed to take a role like this.

One thing stands clear in this excellent thriller-Christopher Reeves could play other characters than Superman.
Chris Reeves is really creepy as the kidnapper and he even looks the part too. What a loss.I think I saw them filming this in Pospect Park at the zoo, I used to go there and remember them filming with kid in uniform and Reeves.

Very good movie. I love the way it ended.
It's been thirty years since I last saw this film. I remembered the substance (how could you forget), but not much detail. Now in my forties, I think this should be played in schools as part of social ed. Also shown to parents that post pictures of their kids online, they have become the photographer jerk.
The events depicted were set in motion because A::The parents lack of understanding and communication, and B: Because there was a picture of the child.

Even the great Katharine Hepburn knew he was talented and was going to make it big.
