nars new caledonia is great too! same understone as macao but darker
@@ambrosia1917 I use this one in the summer and macao in the winter!
@@Omg_sade nice! new caledonia is literally my skin in a bottle
Bobbi Brown Golden Almond, is the shade I was matched to. So, I must be olive.
Skin matching is very difficult.
Finally! People always refer to the fairer tones when speaking about olive complexions. Thank you for a video on darker olive tones We have quite a struggle.
I’m a warm olive tone but my face is drastically different than my body. My face has much more warm, red undertones. It’s extremely hard matching eveything and that’s why I became an MUA lol know I know so much about complexion and undertone 😊
We might have a similar story, I started focusing on styling and color because I didn't fit into the type that they gave me.
It's great that you are a MUA, any tips that you would like to share?
@@cocoastyling Absolutely! What I’ve learned is that their is no perfect match especially for foundation/complexion. Close enough is the best.
Secondly, we have many tones in our skin. For example, I have red (my face), yellow (my body) and more olivey tones (tanned parts) in my complexion. You should get familiar with those so you can understand how to style yourself/do makeup with an complementary color scheme.
And this one is controversial but there is no warm, cool or nuetral only. I believe in warm-nuetral, cool-neutral, etc. I also believe yellow is warm, blue is cool and red is a neutral color.
Lastly, I found that in weird instances I will find a foundation that matches me and then on certain parts of my face it will turn GREY. Dark skin is very interesting to work with and it has so much depth/variations.
🤎🤎🤎
@@theredrubyclub thank so much!!
You have no idea of how much I appreciate MUAs that know how to work with dark skin
One of them really helped me with
understanding that (exactly because what you just mentioned of different areas having different colourations)
Fenty 445 is exactly my shade and is what made me realise I had an olive undertone
same, just tried it today lol
Same!
I found out that I had both yellow and olive undertones from the Bobbi Brown skin long-wear weightless foundation in Golden Almond. The Nars Macao has also been a match. Thank you for making this video. I have been having some trouble with clothes for the longest time
I think we are very similar. I thought about trying Macao but I always worry about how foundations will actually match. Now I'm thinking I should try it. Also for anyone who needs to know Rare Beauty has olive undertone foundations. I do think they lean more towards golden olive.
I was matched to the same shade in Bobbi Brown, so I must be warm olive. I thought that I was neutral warm.
That's what I was told by a makeup artist anyway. I was also matched to 380C in Anastasia foundation. It didn't match though.
NARS Macao works for me too.
My foundation shade is NARS Tahoe! It's described as medium deep with golden/ olive undertones.
I have medium olive skintone and Fenty 290 was life changing for me, every other foundation always looked orange or ashy on me, but this one is simply perfect.
I am definitely a cool, slightly muted olive - I always get confused for a cool neutral but saturated colors give me away. Maroon works better for me than red.
Thank you for your work!
Cool olive is a cool neutral and so is red violet.
Dermablend cover cream in Olive Brown extremely full coverage but it's one of the best things for a brown girl with olive undertone
I found out I was an olive undertone thanks to the Dior backstage foundation (4WO). Even though I could have figured out because I always kept saying that I tended to look yellow since I could remember lol. Thank you so much for this video it was very helpful, especially the color palettes!
It’s really funny to notice that people tends to compliment me more when I’m actually wearing color from the color palette that suits me!
I think we naturally gravitate toward the colors that look good on us, but we don't really know why
Micah, you are really helping me😍
Love the video and saving it to my favorites!
I'm Indian but through your videos I'm not sure whether im dark autumn or olive warm/cool. I can rule out cool autumn but im stuck. Great video overall. You have good information and a good teacher.
Thanks:)
Maybe you could watch the in between seasons video, it could help you out
Appreciate the work💞💞💞💞
thanks so much!! i always struggled w color matching b/c a tend to be gray/unsaturated, ig this explains why ive never been able to pull off green hair
I am a warm olive and the classic shade for my skin is Estee Lauder Double Wear in Sandalwood. This is an extremely olive and slightly muted shade. For me it was a little too muted especially bc I like to add saturation with my makeup, but maybe this will help someone else.
If you feel like it's very close, but still too muted maybe you could try the foundation mixers 🤔
@@cocoastyling it's possible! But it is far easier to mute down a saturated shade than to brighten a muted shade!
Well done, Micah! :) Thank you.
Thank you for always being here:)
Exa beauty has a great undertone range. My foundation match is olive shade called Annette.
I've never heard of them
But I just looked them up and they look like a brand I should try
Thanks for the recommendation!!
You are an angel!!!
I'm so lucky to have found this. Would you mind if I post this on some forums on reddit?
Also, I hear you about the struggle to find pictures of olive undertoned dark skinned people. I would be more than happy to send you pictures of myself, if you could help me find a foundation that's a perfect match for me 😂
Your new subby

Thank you so much for posting this! I just found out over the weekend at Ulta that I have more olive tones like a warm olive and watching this really helped me figure out what colors work best for me.
ohmygod you just saved my life
My mother is olive and she uses bare minerals deep powder foundation. I use deep dark and I have deep dark cool skin. It’s a little too deep for me but I like to use it on the perimeter of my face as a subtle bronzer.

The Hourglass concealer in the shade TEAK is the only concealer that doesn't look orange or yellow on my skin.
Will you do some videos for specific types individually?
I get confused with the constant suggestions for the colors for the various types. And all the back and forth.
You can find them on my Best Colors for Dark skin playlist:)
I use maybelline 330 howvever it tents to make me appear ashier because im very muted . so i switched to mac nc45 which is considered a dupe for maybelline 330 .
i actually use mac c5/c6 which are specifically described as yellow olive
Finally we're getting some recognition!
Sorry it took so long
I hope you liked it, you have been asking for it fo ages😅
Can you be considered a dark autumn and a warm olive as well ?
Yes:)
Being olive doesn’t mean that you have to be muted
You can even be a clear spring and be olive as well
Is Thandie Newton a dark autumn?
i found out i was an olive undertone from the tower 28 foundation sunscreen in 50 sunset

Pick up a Blue foundation mixing pigment
1. LA GIRL PRO.COLOR FOUNDATION MIXING PIGMENT in Blue.
*Beware that this product has white pigment as well so it may lighten your foundation depending on the depth of your complexion and the amount used. There is filler in the product so you may have to add a substantial amount considering the foundation's coverage and color depth. And the powders and oxides in the mixer will MATTIFY the formula of your foundation.
2. Revolution Beauty Foundation Mixing Pigment in Blue
* Note that this formula is very pigmented and has little filler so use it VERY sparingly as it may darken very light complexions. There is no magnifying minerals in this so it will maintain the consistency of your foundation. Ideal mixer for Deep complexions.
At last !
Hope you liked it:)
Jones road face pencil 19
i look like all the cool olive baddies, but all my foundations are labelled as warm neutral and what not im so confused omg
Do you feel like they are a good match?
Because olives tend to fall under the neutral side since they have blue+yellow.
I have such a finnicky skin tone - I am a soft summer (finally figured it out), I have a cool olive undertone, and I can only wear mid range shades - I cannot tolerate the dark or light colors in my palette very well --- is this because my contrast is so low ?!
There are 3 color dymentions for each season, you can change depending on your individual coloring.
From what I can see in your message, as a Soft Summer
Temperature, cool olive
Saturation, this one would be muted
Value, (how light or dark your colors should be) This one seem to be in the middle, your main colors should be medium tones. If you are a soft summer that has blended features very dark colors can be too much, and some of the lighter ones can be too bright if they are not muted pastels.
@@cocoastyling thank you so much for such a detailed response! I will go for muted, mid range tones !
@@lunalovegood4582 you’re welcome:)
Lisa Eldridge foundations have ones catering to olive.
For examples of celebrities with olive complexion - i think delving into Indian celebrities would be good examples. Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor, Katrina Kaif etc.
This is about black women!
@@honorarytomboy8826 3:45 - the woman to the left and right is Freida Pinto - an Indian woman. The title of this video says "for Darker Skin Tones." Whilst this channel is targeted towards the Black demographic, this video isn't completely exclusive to them. Besides regarding olive skin - it's very frequent within the South Asian diaspora so it could help. I'm just pointing out a suggestion. No need to get triggered.
Thanks for the suggestions :)
I will add them to my list of typings
You're right, I do focus mainly on black women because I am, but having a darker skin tone doesn't mean that you are black and being black doesn't mean that you will have very dark skin.
We share the same struggle, we should help each other out.
