Down and Dirty with the DN 2 DynaDrive

- The Boss DN-2 DynaDrive is a bit of an odd one. On the sparkley surface, it looks like your typical three-knob dirt pedal, but then you notice just how much that overdrive changes when you back off on how hard you hit the strings. This is a digital pedal with a super-wide range of overdrive dynamics. Is it a gimmick, or something useful for the practicing musician? I’ve been following this channel for awhile now and I’m slowly coming across all of your older videos every time I search for a pedal on CZcams 😂
I actually AM in love with the overdrive sound of this pedal. It reminds me of a Nobels overdrive, but with an onboard compressor that evens out the volume between finger picking and using a pick. I can finger pick a chord and then go to power chords using the back of my nail and there's no giant volume change--and there's just the right amount of grit added. Also, the gain changes are pretty cool going from a 9 o'clock sound to a dimed sound, with everything from a Nashville sound to a Ryan Adams style rock tone. Love this pedal.
Excellent video. I remember really enjoying this pedal when I worked at Guitar Center. I wouldn't say it's a definitive stand-alone drive pedal, but it behaves like a tube amp channel with its emphasis on dynamics, so to couple it with other drive pedals would give some amazing results. Nicely done.

this is my second boss pedal ever...after the ds1. I find that most modern OD pedals will have some touch/volume sensitivity.

Im in market for this pedal. Because of the color. Orange sparkle is great. But since u said this is a digital pedal, is it the same as like fx in modeler like fractal, helix or boss gt 1000???
JUST BOUGHT A 2ND ONE: I just use it for darkish Jazz tone with a Strat...: SUSTAIN, GOOD EQ( JUST NICELY MIDS FOR JAZZ! otherwise Im not a midhump-type..., the Boss PowerStack has TOO MUCH MIDS!...),,,,,,
JUST BOUGHT ALSO 2 NUX Horsemen: and first I thought I could sell the DYNAs, but the DYNA has the sustain and the feel for dark jazz to it, plus of course I can stack them...
P.S. people, even if it says drive pedal on the tin you can tweak them knobs, patience sil vou play..., ha ha....🛒🛒🎃🎃
I actually own this pedal and loved the sound. Ive seen replaced with the wampler but I kinda think the dn-2 is better…

They should put that touch sensitivity into a delay pedal. Or compressor.
It seems comparable to a tube amp in a little box. As I see it, volume knob control and picking attack seem to be the basis of guitar playing before any pedal is to be added. What I'm interested in finding is how I can produce a wide range of dynamics. I'm searching for a sound with dynamics similar to a horn player. Take a sax for instance, smooth and clean when you're blowing softly, but hit it hard and it barks, hit it real hard and it squawks. I really want, and am searching, for my guitar's sound to be transformed similar to the natural dynamics of a sax or any other horn for that matter but still sound like a guitar (not interested in saxophone modeling). If anyone has some insight as to how to achieve this before any pedal is put into play, Id greatly appreciate it. Whether it's a low watt amp, certain pickups, hollow body- solid body...whatever. Just looking for some insight. Thanks. Love the channel!
