  • Michael goes on an archery elk hunt, bow hunting for bull elk in Wyoming. Bow hunting and elk hunting is an experience that requires patience. From choosing the right bow/archery gear & equipment, setting up camp and bugling for elk this is going to be one public land adventure.
    In this Fresh Tracks Season 8 episode, Michael Parente was lucky enough to draw a limited opportunity elk permit in Wyoming. After doing as much pre-planning as he can, it's time to finally step foot in the unit and see if he can turn up any elk.
    Along with him is friend and co-worker, Marcus Hockett, who is capturing the hunt. Michael was initiated into hunting in the Midwest hunting Whitetail deer from a tree stand. Having moved to Montana he has been able to hunt elk, though unsuccessfully, but this is his first out of state or special draw elk hunt.
    He decides to hunt the archery season, knowing he can return during rifle if his tag goes unfilled. Michael arrives at his until and starts dissecting the landscape trying to narrow down to where the elk are located. Early in the hunt he is able to locate some herds of elk. Now he just needs to get within archery range and get a clean shot to harvest his first ever elk.

    Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine czcams.com/users/postUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older.But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.

    As I am sure Michael knows from all my comments on the E-Scouting and the Day to Day videos this fall this was one of the hunts that I was most stoked to watch (outside or Randy's Dream Hunt in B.C. and the two with his Uncles since I am all about family). As soon as it was announced on an Elk Talk Live that he was a lucky winner of one sweet tag in Wyoming, I was pumped for him and looking forward to seeing him get after it. I can tell that he put tons and tons of research into the E-Scouting aspects with calling biologists with actual concise and prepared questions and leaning on more experienced hunters in the office. You definitely nailed it, there were elk bull elk and eventually cow elk every spot that you marked off. Way to go and I am glad that you accomplished that goal with the help of a good friend and coworker in Marcus, that helps to have someone to share the experience with and show you a few tricks of the trade. Hopefully you can get another archery elk tag, or perhaps an archery mule deer and/or pronghorn tag somewhere this fall. You made your someday a today this past fall. This from a former neighboring state of West Virginia resident. I too would love to chase elk with some archery gear especially, but a rifle would be sweet too. Thanks for sharing again in Amazon format.

    Can any elk hunters answer a question for me? Why do you cow call after taking a well placed shot? I've never hunted elk but I've watched a lot of videos of it and in basically all of them they cow call after shooting a bull but never explain why.

    • @joshyoder4076

      It's to keep the bull from running off because they are tough animals but I agree some people go crazy on it.

    • @MarcusHockett
      @MarcusHockett Před 4 lety

      It will sometimes stop the bull from running. I've called a bull that my wife shot back in and she was able to put a second arrow in it. All happened in the matter of 30 seconds.

    Great footage, but I really didn't like the constant voiceovers and narration done after the action had passed. This style looks just like many of the other whitetail shows out there and distances the viewer from the action. I love Randy's shows which really make you feel like you are there, not sure how he and Marcus do it. This episode just didn't make me feel like I was there. Keep up the whispering into the camera while the action is going on, that really makes me feel more present in the action.
