  • Clean your headlights easy!
    Here’s a tip for anyone out there that has those foggy headlights that look dull and dirty. I haven’t been able to find anything that cleans them better than this. Not for 5$, at least. Any bug spray will work so long as it has DEET. The more, the better.
    Feel free to share for someone who has headlights like these 😊

      Use colgate often but fid some wet sanding with a low grit finger nail cardboard file. A bit heavier grit on one side. I cleaned a lot of bad film off a friends lights. Didnt get perfect results but got rid of a good 80% of the build up for them. This might help finish.

    To clean the headlights properly people, you have to use a type of rubbing compound or 1200 sandpaper to get the oxidized plastic off first. Then buffing brings back the shine. You can even clear coat after that to maintain the clarity .

      I use 800 grit sandpaper keeping it wet and then 1200 grit or higher to smooth it, again keeping the sandpaper wet! Then let dry and spray with clear coat, it will look foggy when you first spray it with clear coat but it dries crystal clear. Stays that way, for a quick option to clear your headlights use a dry cloth with Acetone! But only wipe it one time across, like the top half then bottom half, depending on the size of your cloth! Do not wipe over the acetone again and again, it will look worse, just one swipe across!

    • @MarkSegree
      @MarkSegree Před 3 lety +20

      2000 grit alone will take you about 2 hour per head light. I recommend 800 to start. The protective coating really comes off thick and it's the difference between cleaning the sand paper 120 times vs 5 times at 1 wash per minute. 800 1000 1500 2000 "3000". If you skip the 3000 you wont achieve perfection as you cant work a compound on plastic for very long without burning it. I recommend a compound then a polish after which you need to apply protection or all that work will be for nothing. Not all waxes are plastic safe so read the labels, follow the directions.

    Headlights get foggy because they are UV damaged and scratched, you cant clean damaged or scratched, you must repair it. This will only make the damaged surface smoother appearing newer, it'll be back to normal a day later. Your not cleaning a layer of dirt off the lenses rather your applying a coating clearing it up. That's not dirt that's age, can't wipe age away. It's oxidation in a sence, and when metal gets oxidized you have to sand it cant wipe rust off. Same here sand it, can't wipe it off. Bandaid fix.

      geoffrey walker that’s because the grit in the salt or baking soda acts as a polish and removes a layer of the plastic. What? Who makes a how to video, and never shows the "hack" product they use? I see a green spray can of some type product...oh, so this guy must be using a can of green spray paint (No, he's not and plz do not use sny form if spray paint), but when you forget to tell others what you use, people tend to use whatever fits. Hey video creator, my suggestion is you REMAKE THIS VIDEO showing a clear shot of the product you are using, and include a one week, one month, 6 month, 1 year, quick video update proving to your viewers that your hack lasts more than a day, then upload your new video. Something tells me, by reading user comments, that this hack only works for a very short time, which is not acceptable. Until you upload a better version, this video is worthless and receives a double 👎👎 THUMBS DOWN. 👋
