Hey everyone! Covered this one a few days ago and the response was pretty good, with a number of people requesting a tutorial, so here we are. Just a fantastic guitar driven track from Scotland's Big Country.
Hope you enjoy the tutorial. Cheers, KDA

Hi Kelly, a huge part of that complex guitar sound should also be attributed to Bruce Watson. The bands' guitar sound was almost always a combination of Adamson and Watson. Great cover BTW.
I appreciate your thoughtful lessons. They are very helpful and 'Big' thank you for this particular one.
Hey man, I appreciate that very much! If I had a desert Island mix tape with only 20 songs on it or so, this one would be on it. I love this song.
The guitar work is more intricate than I realized. I look forward to learning this one Kelly. Again, thank you sir!@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar
Great rendition - so much more going on in the song above the catchy melodies. Loved this song back in the 80's, never knew why they didn't make it big, they were starting out the same time as U2.
The Major scale is a joyful melody. E major = energy and passion.
Thanks for sharing this tune. Very cool of you to do that.
Many thanks for the lesson, cleared up a couple of sections after watching your fantastic cover and using my ears. Rock on!
Thank you so much. Love your lessons!
A great song..great structure and lyrics..so sad Stuart had to depart this world the tradgic way he did.sooooo sad..a great talent!🏴🎸😥
Thank you, thank you! There were no *good* tutorials on this song. This is awesome.
BC was the first post punk/alt band I liked. At the time, I was 100% punk rock. They opened a big door for me. Stuart was the man. I went to Scotland last year and took a mini pilgrimage to Dunfermline to pay my repects.
Dios mio, you made me very happy with this!
Those powerchords sound mighty fine bro
Big country made it big in europe...huge band there still loved today.
Yahooooooo. You made the lesson . Thank you thank you . Best bands of the 80s . Thank you n god bless
Thanks for this! A great song, great band, and great lesson. Keep up the great work!
You're awesome mate, thanks for that!
Luv this thank you very much. ❤
Cheers mate, my pleasure. Great song.
Awesome love this song… Fanks a Bunch…
Your voice sounds very authoritative and fatherly.
Stuart Adamson was great RIP 😢
I think that tune all blew us away at the time. Still a great tune of course. They just couldn’t follow it up sadly I suppose. Great likes on this one Kelly! Great job bro!
The music world actually exists outside of America you know ? Their career went on for another 17 years after In a Big Country.
Yes but thanks anyway 🤦🏻♂️👍
Their first album was stellar top to bottom, like a greatest hits, second album (my favorite) same story, 3rd great too. EP with Angle Park and The Crossing (both killer tunes). Not a one hit wonder as many think.
Hi Kelly, im judt curious how you picked up the part at 8:17. To me it doesn't sound right, to me. It seems like it should go down and not up. Im no music expert, so im not sure. I've listened to the original and just cant pick up the part you played. Ive heard another tutorial and it sounds closer. Again, im not sure but I do appreciate your lesson.
czcams.com/video/AnkJz-wIGYQ/video.htmlsi=o3fDs8-lyhgra6IK at the 1:01 mark.
The guitars are quite muddled and slightly buried in the mix at that point. Really difficult to hear exactly what they're doing. I picked it apart the best I could with something that sounded close and worked.
Hmmm, I was wondering how to play the chord arpeggio at the very introduction to the song, but you seem to have skipped that bit. For me, this is the real hook. I have never heard a song intro like it...
It's there mate. I covered it. I just showed the melody line first before digging into the rhythm parts.
Worst tutorial ever. So quick. I haven't even had time to think before it's the next thing.
I kept thinking I'm gunna switch this off, it's bullshit. But ur voice scrambles the brain?. Couldn't even do that. So unfortunately, I listen to the whole thing. But more like a deer in a head light
Thanks!
One can slow it down on playback etc.
I’ve watched a lot of guitar but I find this channel the best. Great choices….and I’ve never seen Cold Sweat,Thin Lizzy, done so well - except when I saw it on telly live from a pub in ‘83! Same month as I saw Big Country, Steeltown Tour.
I saw a tab of it once- so lucky to have this now!
Think this could be the answer for me to actually start playing songs!!!
PS my Dad (working) got a pic of my wife and her friends got a photo with Stuart, with his yellow Strat not that long before he was lost.
Yours Aye!
Got the years mixed up. Saw BG in Scotland in ‘84!
