- Brian’s smoking ruined his health and devastated his family. He finally quit smoking for good and was able to get a heart transplant. In this video from CDC’s Tips From Former Smokers® campaign, Brian encourages people who smoke to quit. Brian died in 2022 at age 68 after suffering from smoking-related health problems for more than 30 years.

I used to have beers with this guy at Lucky 13 in Brooklyn. A truly kind, decent dude. I miss you, bud. You're a solid dude.
I’m so happy he got the transplant. He is so humble 🙂 sad story the strength you have is miraculous!! I admire you Brian. I’m really happy for your family. I needed your story today not for the smoking. It’s more about the struggle how you endured it and here you are!! God bless you Brian.
@@angelahaydenrealtor6056 bro theirs no way it’s a Chinese porn site 😂😂😂
I am so happy Brian got that transplant, and also a heartfelt thank you for your service to our country........I grew up an Air Force brat
I'm going to quit this mans story touched me like no other
+Damian Bronner I hope you do! You got this!! You can do it!
good choice
have u quit??
It’s been half a decade, did you quit?
I knew Brian in the US Air Force when he was stationed in the UK...we were in the same squadron. I remember the day Brian had his massive heart attack. We were all devastated at the news. Brian was a sweet, funny guy and we had many a good laugh together. Sadly Brian passed away in December 2022. He fought a good fight and remained positive through all his challenges. RIP my friend. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Daddio, you had to eat a lot of crow, suck up a lot of pride and have a lot of courage to go though this process. Words can not describe how grateful we all are for you breaking a 40 year habit, a chronic co-dependence, a life killing disease to become the husband, father and grandfather you are today. You're ability to quit smoking has changed all of our lives for the better. So empowered by you always. I love you! Go Team Brian!
Brian, so proud of you. So proud to call you friend
This is such a powerful story. So glad you quit smoking and got a new heart. I'm glad I was able to quit smoking while I'm still young.
Brian seems so sweet and so real. Wish him the best luck!
+Mary G Joanna He's pretty awesome Mary! :) Thank you!
Thanks for your service, Brian. I'm glad you got a chance at life.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. Smoking is such a difficult habit to quit, especially when you have done it for such a long time. Your story will definitely help others to quit. I smoked when I was younger for about 15 years and quit when my cousin called to tell me she had colon cancer. I am an NP who works in the sort of ICUs you were in. A majority of my patients are smokers. Many of the patients in my unit have aortic aneurysms, aortic dissections, and diffuse arterial disease in their extremities. Sometimes, these situations aren't even enough to make the person quit. Your story brought tears, likely to more than me. Congratulations and God Bless.
This guy is the man amazing recovery thank you for your service and god bless I'm 25 and been on and off smokeing this really helped me out
Thank you for this video. I am glad you got a new heart, as surely those cigarettes ruined yours. My lungs are ruined from smoking. I have emphysema. I did quit smoking but it was too late for me. There is no life for me on the other side of cigarettes because I cannot breathe without grasping for air. I cannot do even the basic of things now, without feeling out of breath. It is worse when you live alone and have no one to help. Everyday is a struggle for me. I go to bed and seriously never want to wake up.
I'm not crying, my eyes are sweating.
Yay he got a new heart
+Jeremiah Garcia It's so cool!! :)
I love this man for sum reason
This touched me the most
*salutes*🇺🇸
I love this man 💗
This man is one of the people who made me decide to never smoke. The other ones were Terrie Hall and Debi Austin. And because of these videos, it really inspires me to never do it especially since my grandma died at 63 in 2018 due to smoking all her life.
Who disliked this. If he ever touches a cigarette again I hope his family let him feel their pain
0:25 i culdn't help but crack up at his expression
Aww im so happy for him! in tears
unfortunately they are only showing a short clip of this video... tv needs to show the entire video...
+wendy werner I agree Wendy!
1.4 million people saw this and only 509 rated it
I think people who want smoke should have good diet and make sport to minimalize negative effects.
Like, even though your heart was hosed, you're totally awesome now (no more ciggies). Way to go, babe!
this man's words are strong Thank You Sir😍😍😍
Yay
I hope you will live happy :)
What happened to Brain?

I wonder how old Brian is and how long he has been out of the Air Force?
Hi Bill, he is 64 in April this year and he was medically retired in 1990 after the heart attack. :)
Angela Hayden, ask your dad was he stationed at Ramstein Air Base Germany back in the early 1980's. During that time I. was a Food Service Specialist at Kapaun Air Station and there was a guy that looked like your father that would have his meals there.
He was stationed at Hess in Germany not Ramstein. :)
Do you know if Brian is still alive?
Nate Kidren hi Nate! Yes! He is definitely alive and doing well! Thank you for asking. 😊
Sad
if u gona smoke smoke hemp or . R&W tobacco cleanest tobacco i have ever used whitoute feeling like shit
DOES ANYONE "KNOW" THIS GUY BRIAN? I knew a TSGT. Brian Schmitt or Schmidt when I was in the USAF , stationed at East Kelly AFB, San Antonio Tx from Jun 92 thru Nov '98. The anti-smoking ads & videos show his "UNI" with MSGT stripes. He left "early" to go to Wash,. DC. Either he had orders, he had separated/retired, was going with his wife? Wife "to be"? Something like that. He put an engine into my "70 El Camino. (Had to sell the ELKY) Darn good mechanic-didn't screw me. Miss him! IS THIS THE SAME GUY? I am on FACEBOOK.
William Onderlinde this is not your friend. My dad was a Msgt in the Air Force stationed at Brooks. 😊
Thank you Angela Hayden. Praise the Lord, you still have your Dad. I 'm happy for him, you & the whole family.
Thank you!
