Sad to say, but I'm pretty sure Alyx just straight up died. Not Little, not the Jabberwalker, and not the Blacksmith. She met the Blacksmith in the in between or whatever and asked her to give Jaune back what he lost to the Ever After.
That wouldn’t make sense according to the lore

@@stancinatti8198 I think it does makes sense. People from Remnant aren’t the Afterans. Afterans when they die automatically go to the tree to be reborn. But people from Remnant don’t go the tree when they die, they just die. People would have to go directly to the tree themselves, it’s not an automatic process for them.

It’s approximately 5 days to a week after the fall of Atlas, the ending implies Ruby’s call for help worked considering all the ships there are prepping for Salem’s arrival
I feel like we will go back in time to the great war.
Considering it looks like Amity has been upgraded into a full blown airship with a big gun on the front, it definitely seems like some kind of a timeskip. Or that's just a separate ship whose silhouette has blended together with Amity.
This finale was amazing! Now the wait for Volume 10 begins. Thanks for this reaction Calxiyn and Hunter.
I believe out of all of them that Neo actually had the most impact to the Ever After, she took out both the Jabberwalker and the Cat creating a new truly neutral balance to the Ever After.
Hunter tossing the tiniest chunk of confetti at the Alyx moment was too cute I died.
The fact that The gods are actually just The Tree's offspring and Summer Rose lied not just that but RAVEN lied that she didn't know anything about Summer leaving (The point there was that Raven said she didn't know what happened to Summer, as in she lied about that)
All a long, the true god of Remnant was the Tree

At the end, you can hear a bit of "This will be The Day"
The tree has "Theres no such thing as magic in remnant" vibes... there are no gods in remnant either, even the tree isnt really a god, its just nature doing what it does but with magic.
In my opinion it looks like she lives knowing what happened cut all ties apart for a select few never spends a long amount of time in one spot. All her actions say she is afraid but trying her hardest to not show.
If we don't get some kinda continuing series with Somewhat, I'mma cry...what a wonderful character to build a spinoff around!

When ruby burst out that tree and started fighting I was hype I’ve never seen her fight like that true main character vibes
That's how she fought in volume 1. She's literally been on a downward spiral since at least mid volume 3. It was so cathartic to see her back in her groove, which I hadn't even processed she had lost until that scene.
@@nemasisdemarini8339 yeah she was in a semi slump through 4-5 though it hard to tell cause that’s when they changed animation styles and then 6-8 happened and wow shit got real and tough for a 17 or 18 year old kid, but she was definitely different after what happened at beacon sure the gang got some W’s but they also got some big L’s as well and then this volume just hit different for Ruby she finally started to get character growth around vol 6 not much but it was definitely there and then vol 7-8 happened and the growth happened again but so did some realizations that life is hard and tough and the world just kept throwing stuff at her to make her feel down and this vol does a great job saying that it’s okay your enough which is so great to hear and definitely something she needed. All in all 9/10 for me in this vol I loved it
But I kinda disliked that Jaune got side lined again, just to give Ruby the spotlight
She has fought like that in my opinion. Red trailer. That level of ass kicking, take no prisoners Ruby Rose has not been on display since Red Trailer when Monty was basically just solo making the entire show.
@@SymmbolZS Yeah, slight problem to have the one character expressly noted as having large Aura reserves be the only one to have their aura break in a fight where 4 characters are all taking the hits more or less evenly.
The thing about Neo, as far as my interpretation goes, is that it's not that she doesn't want to not be herself, she just doesn't want to hurt anymore. And after seeing that Ruby came out of the whole ordeal seemingly better off, happier, it made her start to genuinely consider if it would be good for her to go through it as well. If Ruby hadn't come back as a better seeming version of herself, I don't think Neo would have even considered going to the tree as an option. After all, she was convinced that going to the tree would destroy Ruby, literally.
100% agree. She'd just seen and taken advantage of Ruby at her absolute lowest. Ruby was essentially suicidal. Yet, after going through whatever she went thru, she came out stronger, happier and more connected with the loved ones she'd spent a whole volume vehemently pushing away.
And all Neo has left is an illusion of her long-dead soulmate and the taste of freshly exorcised spirit pussy in her mouth. She's miserable and she doesn't want to hurt so she did what seemed to work for Ruby.
I don't think she jumped in any more decent of a person than she was when she was hurting people and taking lives for funsies. I just think she jumped In a more healthy person.
But she will inevitably emerge an all- around better person. Hopefully, we get a glimpse of that, however briefly. I'd love to see many of the villains who have had shit lives, some of them with extreme levels of shit beyond what Neo endured, find some sort of peace at some point.
Ok. The blacksmith is NOT Alyx. The blacksmith said that Alyx died. Period. Also, the Tree, and hence the Blacksmith, was around before the Brothers, much less before Alyx showed up.
Also- We do not know where/who Raven and Summer went to. Raven could have a connection to ANYONE. Maybe it was Qrow- maybe not. We won't know until at least next volume.

I think in volume 5 Raven mentioned that she can open portal for 3 people qrow, her ex-husband and yang. Only important people so this means portal was for qrow
Something came to mind with the creation of the Jabberwocker, it reminded me of Volume 6 when the God of Darkness snapped at the God of Light to not lecture him on what creation is
Also that the gods, particularly the god of creation led to both the cat and Salem becoming spiteful towards them.

I think it was qrow that they went on a mission with cause in volume 4,when Tyrian poisons him and they're carrying him on a stretcher,he's mumbling something like "she's not coming back,Ty,she's not coming back" which makes it sound like he was there
Oh wow, it's so strange that everyone thought Alyx was the Blacksmith. The Blacksmith is pretty much the tree, so I had the impression that they've been around far longer than Alyx or even the Brothers...
Remember when the blacksmith told ruby that the only thing that could happen to her is what she wants to happen.
So i believe when alyx's life ended as the blacksmith said, she chose to not be reborn/ascend and to leave a part of herself behind(her dagger) to fix jaune.
Or maybe that is what alyx asked when she met the blacksmith and had a change of heart, and then afterwards the cat got her and she just died having already used her chance with the blacksmith to leave her dagger as a wish.
Something to make note of: all the figurines on the Blacksmith's workspace have been beings that have appeared in Ever After. one of them is what looks like a hunk of raw crystal; a crystal the same color as Neo's Semblance.
The relics derive their power from the ever after, hence why Ambrosius's portals went through the rabbit hole to the EA

I think alyx is juniper. She wanted to fix what she had broken including poor jaune. Juniper found jaune and led him to the paper pleasers when he was dying. In the fight with the cat, juniper stops the cat from getting to jaune when he had the wind knocked out of him
Volume 9: The Group Therapy Session 😁
I loved this chapter. I wasn't expecting Neo to have a heart-felt sendoff like this ngl. But...I'm really glad she did. She's coming to terms with her various issues and might return in the future, a healthier version of herself. And Ruby showing the most compassion towards her? Very nice. I feel like I'm in the minority of those who's faith in this series' writing is building as the volumes progressed from 6-9.

The coolest thing about this Volume and this final scene with the Blacksmith, is that their voice actress, Kimlinh Tran, decided to start watching RWBY to build up to the scenes she recorded for new context. She's already loving what she's watching so far.
What an impact, gaining a new fan in the form of a voice actor you recruited for Year 10 of your show.

If you think about it, Alex wanted to fix what she broke. What does a blacksmith do, besides forging weapons? They fix broken things. So, the Blacksmith could very well be a combination of the tree and Alex.
About Neo still being able to make a vision of Roman still... yes, she has the ability to do so. However, this was Neo's coming to terms with Roman's death and letting him go. It's not that she'll ever forget him, but it's probably better for her if she doesn't manifest him. Like Nora, she needs to find herself without him.

My thoughts: Alyx became Juniper, the black amith is a manifestation of the tree's will not any other character, Vaccuo is a few years in the future and every nation has come together as Ruby asked, Raven took Summer to her tribe's leader/Parent (wasn't leader herself until after fall of beacon) as a short cut to where she needed to go (not Qrow as he had no idea where Summer was that mission), Qrow and Robin have a kid now. That is all.
The blacksmith is the tree's avatar. So in short the blacksmith is the tree.

i just want to say that this episode had the cleanest Ruby fight since volume 4 and really shows off her and Crescent Rose's strengths, not to mention Jaune with the strategy, hell, everyone did great on this one!
I think it was purposely left ambiguous whether the blacksmith or juniper were alex. Alex died and wanted to fix everything so it's a good call that the blacksmith was a reincarnated alex trying to fix the ever after. As well you could say she creates juniper to help jaune. When she hands the knife to jaune the visuals imply she is alex in the framing.
Or you could say that the blacksmith was already there, weiss mentions the kind carpenter earlier in the story, if it were alex then Louis wouldnt know that to write it.

🤔 I've noticed something. Is anyone really talking about the Jabberwalker that much? I mean beyond the fact that it's this world's macguffin monster threat. Because I think it may be a little more crucial than that. Yes it's the only thing that can actually bring true death and is a true agent of destruction. But it also goes to fix something before Neo ganked it. And in retrospect, that was all we saw of the original Jabberwalker. So I think in a way, Neo was acting like the Jabberwalker's but only when it came to combat, so we should disregard those appearances when making judgments on the actual creature. Now. 😮💨 I think with what we know now about the gods' involvement in this world, it's safe to say the Jabberwalker was like, their first spark of the idea of man kind. I think they made the Jabberwalker together, but maybe the dark brother got a little greedy and put a little more of his influence in than the light brother thus, the monster we know as the Jabberwalker. A creature who can kill, but also fix things. What his role in fixing things looks like, or how involved he is in the upkeep of the everafter, 🤷♂️ ya got me. But that seems to be what they've sort of suggested with him as I see things. And then maybe they made remnant and the light brother went "Hey remember the Jabberwalker?" Dark brother goes "Yeah?"
"Well that had some good premises involved but I think we can do better. Infact, why don't we fill a whole planet with them, and just kinda fuck around with a couple ideas right?"

This was an outstanding episode and like you said was one of the best finales RWBY has had thus far. Plus I saw four things that I was happy about:
1. OG Ruby returned
2. More insight on Summer and her last mission. Plus more Summer Rose
3. More lore dropped about the Brothers and how the tree is the center of the RWBY universe
4. Just more of The Blacksmith because she was one of my personal favourite characters from this volume as well as the RWBY franchise in general because she's that type a character I love; one surrounded in mysteries yet can act as a guide and give some words of wisdom when needed.
I'm convinced that the tree in the Ever After is a reference to the Tree of Ygdrassil and that could lead to possibly more worlds existing in their universe. Only time will tell if we will learn more on what happens with that. This was an outstanding episode as well as a perfect end for this Volume and I can't wait to see what happens in Volume 10.
P.s. it was so nice to hear "Red Like Roses" again...its my favourite song from the RWBY franchise.
Ruby directly asked Qrow about Summer's last mission and he seemed to include himself in the people who had no idea what happened. If they portaled to him they at least didn't tell him what they were doing.
Is it just me, or are the glass weapons cases in the netherworld very reminiscent of the Glass Coffin seen in RWBY Ice Queendom?
I've recently combined several of theories and given them some development, I used to think Little was going to be the Big Bad Wolf, and Ruby was going to ride him, next to Jaune atop Juniper as two warriors of legend. Now I think Summer is definitely going to be some kind of Grimm creature, like the hound, only instead of the blood hound, she's going to become the 'Big Bad Wolf' and "Little Red" Ruby Rose is going to have to fight her. In the story of Little Red Riding Hood, The Woodsman, also known as The Huntsman (Summer) saves Little Red after her Grandmother is eaten by the Big Bad Wolf, and the beast is killed by an axe, which Summer has been confirmed to wield in her days as a huntress.
So, I think Summer hurt Salem, or at least removed the Grimm from her system, before Salem went back and bathed in the pools of Grimm, which is how she got the red lines on her face, which she didn't have when she was with Ozma, but she does have them in modern day. I think she's had to bathe in the Grimm Waters multiple times, because of Silver Eyed Warriors, a previous generation of huntsman, who she's hunted to borderline extinction, over centuries. By the end of the story, Summer is going to be the former Huntsman, who was combined and later taken over by a Beowolf Grimm, is going to have be taken down by the new Huntress, Ruby.

I think the blacksmith is the avatar of the tree. It's the personification of a being who is so powerful that was able to create beings with infinite power.
Alix died, they never tell you HOW she died, if the cat killed her, or something else, but once she was dying, she left a wish for the tree, instead of ascending (I think to ascend you need to drink the tree's leafs or something like that if you're not from Ever After), she wanted to fix some of her mistakes. I don't actually think Alix had powers, just that she asked the tree to fix one of her mistakes, being Jeanne. That's why the Blacksmith says she was waiting for him for a long time.
Again, the only problem with Rwby is that sometimes they just don't tell everything, that's kinda lame XD

It's been so long since we've seen Ruby fight I've forgotten that she got skipped 3 years because she's a MONSTER with a weapon. The cat was winning a 1v4 and Ruby showed up and had him SHOOK and didn't even break a sweat. And HE STARTED THE ATTACK! Man she's a beast!
Blake, Jaune, Ruby, Weiss and Yang are the 5 main characters since they were the ones everyone first saw

I'm not with all the people calling this a filler Arc but it really really help if they didn't just undo everything that Jaune went through. He got put through at this volume and it changed him into a very interesting character oh, that we sacrificed for the sake of maintaining the status quo. Yes it would have been tragic, but it would have been better if he had stayed The Rusted Knight as he went back to Remnant

I think Hunter is right as when Ruby ascended she was given the choice to become someone else or someone different to fulfill a purpose. If she had become someone else she would have lost her identity no? Look at Alyx, I think she wanted to become someone who could fix what was broken in the Ever After and so she became the Blacksmith but she would leave her identity and memories behind. Instead she left her identity and memory into the knife to eventually carry out her promise to fix Jaune. So Alyx became the blacksmith but Alyx herself no longer exists.
Also the blacksmith kept referring to the tree saying the tree did this the tree did that instead of referring to themselves, which indicates that the blacksmith wasn’t involved back then.
I really wanted Ruby to beat up Neo a bit but she shown she is much stronger is other ways
I hope I don't sound ignorant when I say this but it's a shame Ruby's depression just got pushed to the side to have a happy ending for the Volume. Episode 8 she's on the verge of suicide, Episode 9 she's confused about who she wants to be & if she needs to be someone else. But in the finale, she sees a flashback to her mother leaving them with Raven & lying about she was doing. I feel like she should've gotten WAY more upset about that than what they showed. And in the end she's the same.
The Episode was good & beautiful but those are like my hard criticisms of Ruby's Arc in Volume 9. I feel like the 10 episode Volume was too short. Having an extra 4 would've done it justice in my opinion

Is it bad that i think neo is alyx. I mean the reason why neo is mute because in her past life she leave apart of herself behind. So she could never speak a promise again, like how she broken hers one she had with the cat. Her disease and her mute was all cause by her past action in the after. Even in the opening song Alyx can out of Neo silhouette because that was her past self
And now they've disrupted the "balance" of the EA by killing the cat.
The 'balance' was already disrupted by the slaying of the jabberwocker, and they were both always semi outside forces given the jabberwocker outright destroyed the things it killed and the cat seemingly couldn't return to the tree given they were the creations of the Brothers. Also, the Tree is like, still a thing and active, it's not like the Brothers who just straight up left. If the Ever After truly needs arbiters, the Tree will either make one or change something into one, assuming Somewhat doesn't fill that role now.
