  • We have a 2012 Dodge Grand caravan with a 3.6l that I bought with blown cams, this is the Hail Mary I came to with to swap the reluctor rings to the new cams.

      Thanks, it's mostly a derivative of being too poor to be able to afford anything most of my life.

    Hmm I’m In a similar spot…to return the cam, for one that has the ring already, or try to swap that ring and get it right myself.

      Definitely a pain in the butt, I don't know if I can recommend it I mostly did it because I was between a rock and a hard place.

    That was great work but to be honest I wish you had pushed back a little harder against that ebay seller. You shouldn't let them get away with selling you an incomplete product like that. Now that they've gotten away with passing that off on you they will continue to try to cheat others in the future.

      I was in kind of a tough spot, what they sold was miss advertised but I really needed to get the engine back together and I was having trouble finding anything else I could afford. So I just rolled with it.

    Mopar makes a tool to align. Currently 150$ for two tools for bank 1 and bank 2 well worth it

      The only tool that I saw them offering was one to verify if it had slipped not one that was capable of actually indexing for installation.

      Just had my first P0019 in a 2015 Jeep arrive. Bank 2 exhaust cam. Scanner show a -40.00 degree on that cam, while the other 3 Idle a -4.30. After research an diagnostic I feel that tone ring has change. The Tone Wheel Check Tool Kit would be a must in my ideals to reinstall that ring an some how stationary it back to the tool kit specs. I yet to actually pull the valve covers to verify, gotta see what the owner wants to do. This is expensive problem if you go with buying new stuff. Lets hope they have corrected the problem, instead of buying it again. I am curious to see the valve covers off.

    What is the grease type stuff on the tone wheel before you take it out and do you have to put grease on it installed or just in stall it cleaned off

    • @perpetualmotion1
      @perpetualmotion1  Před 23 dny

      They just have gunk on them. I clean everything up and lock tight them before I install them.

    Sounds like you need a new left side cylinder head. Alot of the 2011 and 2012 models needed them. Chrysler redesigned the head for 2013 models and up. Hope im wrong but from my experience with the pentastar this has almost always been the problem.

    • @perpetualmotion1
      @perpetualmotion1  Před rokem +1

      I see a lot of people saying that but no explanation of what is actually wrong that kills all three cylinders, and only at an idle, it passed a compression test also btw.

      @@perpetualmotion1 #2 cylinder valve seat overheats due to lack of initial hardening from the manufacturer

    • @perpetualmotion1
      @perpetualmotion1  Před rokem

      That still doesn't explain all three cylinders on the number 2 bank being dead at an idle, what's even stranger is it has thrown a bank 2 rich operation condition code. Bank 2 is running long term fuel trim in the -15 to -30 range almost constantly.

      I replaced both upstream O2 sensors with OEM sensors so I know that isn't it, I'm starting to suspect a leaking injector.

      Only applies to 2011 and 2012. 2013 not as much as change was made in February of that year

    I know how to time that ring now,I did it correctly by mistake on my mom's 2013 charger ,3.6 v6 pentastar,time it to the hexagon corner in front of it where your wrench goes,the corner 30 degrees north facing the camshaft pos sensor ,is where that hole needs to be ,trust me ,

    You did not say what codes you were getting I can only assume they are cam sensor codes, there 2 cam sensors that code wise are 4, at the bottom of the sensor it looks like a T one side exhaust and one side intake so sensor 1 and the other sensor 2 so if you are getting say codes 345 and 390 that would be bank 2 sensor 1 and the other code bank 2 sensor 2, those codes are going to narrow done the search, as far as a head I would think there would be other symptoms besides a miss fire code. Most people look at mechanical don't rule out electrical I believe there are 5 wires to the sensor, 5V power, ground, sensor 1 signal and sensor 2 signal. I have forgotten the name of it but there is like a piece of plastic that you can place over the tone wheels and see the magnetic flux lines maybe that would help to line them up using a degree wheel.

      Since we shot this video, I replaced both cams on the Left Bank with used ones and almost completely cured it of its quirks, as far as I can tell the location of the alignment dowels on the Chinese cams that I ended up putting in were machined wrong.

      recently I bought a set of rear control arms and when I took them out of the box I looked at the two upper control arms and one had the mounting bracket welded offset of course from China, I ran into a man this year in Manila PH airport and he told me the reason China can keep the cost so low is they have no middle management, they have laborers and senior management, this is probably why quality suffers so bad there. Glad you were able to fix your issue my kid has a Jeep with the same kind of problem and we have been tinkering for quite awhile with it. @@perpetualmotion1

      We did, since I shot this video we've had further developments. I discovered that one of my junk Chinese cams had the slot for the locating pin machined in the wrong location, because I was using that slot to re-index the reluctor ring it allowed the cam timing to we wrong without the computer being able to sense it. I got a used Cam and put in there and it's been running like a champ ever since.
