I now understand that Banana Guard is more a character for beginners than a joke character, his moveset is so simple and easy to learn that can let the players know the basics of the game before they try other characters with unique moves. He is so common that PFG chose him instead of other famous characters because he doesn't have any potential to waste

So there was some leaks saying Gandalf from LOTR was in development, but he was scrapped cause of rights issues, but it was leaked that Morty’s up special was a repurposed version of Gandalf’s recovery, so I think Banana Guard’s down attack is another one of those repurposed moves due to the name alone.

frankly it's a shame not to see it otherwise he finds it good that he reuses old parts for another character

Kinda split (haha) on him to be honest
people compare him to piranha plant for being a weird pick, but he feels more like a sword character with how basic his moveset feels. wish they leaned into the goofiness more since once the novelty of playing as a bit character wears off, sans a couple of moves you're just left with some spear dude. It's like if they added Donnel from FE awakening as a character.

In a way, putting the joke character in the launch roster was a smart move. I doubt adding him later on would have sit well with the player base, so making him playable from the start was their only option if they really wanted that kind of character in game

honestly idk why but the more energetic music makes this game appear 10x better than with the slow paced orchestral ost. very excited for release but it seems this is the kinda game you mute the music and put on your own ahaha

Is it just me or is the banana guard moveset very similar to the moveset of bandana waddle dee in super smash flash? Ik it’s a vague reference but the similarities are uncanny.
If they were looking for a joke character Sal from Impractical Jokers was right there.
Imagine showing Sakurai and his team how to make Bandana Waddle Dee on top of that the whole roster has unique and original moveset's this is what I call a developing team well done Player First Games I haven't tried this game but if the bot's don't aimlessly jump over the player like dummies' and actually fight then Sakurai and his team should hang it up

I love Banana Guard and all his animations, but he’s probably the most basic character in Multiversus. I do think he’s extremely good though.

Am I the only one who found this is a little random to be honest like I mean there's princess bubblegum and Marceline
something i don’t like about this games community is how some people call it multiverse instead of its actual name
I'm not against Multiversus having joke characters, but I feel like a lot of what made Banana Guard very divisise was the timing of when he was revealed.
Multiversus has always had a tough time winning people over, and for their big comeback after a year of silence, having one of the first newcomers be a joke character didn't exactly install a lot of confidence, if that makes sense.
Gameplay wise he still looks fun to play, but as a character choice, I don't blame people for thinking they should've stuck with their heavy hitters first
What I think a lot of people fail to consider is that banana guard is most likely an extra fighter, if I had to guess they simply couldn't get most of the characters they wanted finished on time, and to not add only 2, they quickly made banana guard who already had a model and animations, and a simple enough moveset.
A lot of people feel like he should've been someone else, but if I had to guess it would've been either him or nothing.

I guess they put all their eggs in Jason, Smith and Joker as their actual newcomers. I guess we were all hoping for more newcomers after such long break, but I guess we'll see. I imagine they do have more characters but they are saving them all for later updates because, you know, live service game... 😬

I gotta agree. It's obvious they tried to make a funny joke character, but the roster isn't nearly big enough to be padding it out with this sort of char yet, not to mention he's seems super basic.

MultiVersus could have more characters than Smash if they get lots of funds and keep the passion going.
