The length of the T. rex is outdated, thanks to the recent study of the Scotty specimen, it is now known that it could reach 13 meters.
And the fact that T. rex had smaller arms does not mean that they are occasionally less functional, it is known that although short, their arms have quite considerable strength, so it is quite clear that one or more functions have, if not their muscles they would be stunted, so the Acrocanthosaurus advantage should be corrected to "longer arms" rather than "more functional arms".

Just because Acrocanthosaurus hunted Sauropods doesn't necessarily make it a better hunter tho as they hunted them in packs the T.rex on the other hand were able to 1v1 large and armored herbivores like Triceratops and Ankylosaurus which is a feat Acrocanthosaurus can't really do

T Rex has better functional legs than most dinosaurs, because it is by far the best long-distance runner in the animal kingdom, thanks to the Arcto metatarsals in its feet, which only three groups of dinosaurs have, Troodontids, Ornithomimids, and Tyrannosaurids, these groups of dinosaurs are the only animals EVER to have these feet, it allow gain back more energy at every step they take, these animals are built to travel super long distances for long periods of time, also lets them take longer strides, keeping a consistent speed, allow them eventually catch up to its prey, for traveling long distances, these feet also allows the animal to be best efficient in quick turns. T Rex along with the other dinosaur groups I mentioned are the best long-distance runners in the entire animal kingdom. there is a video lecture by paleontologist Dave Hone, about the feet of T Rex

Tyrannosaurus is bigger, has a stronger bite powerful enough to crush through bone, can 1v1 a Triceratops and Ankylosaurus which are both Armored and equiped with weapons to protect themselves from other predators, and is a heavy unit. And Acrocanthosaurus hasn't accomplished what Tyrannosaurus had accomplished, and that's not being able to hunt down armored prey. Acrocanthosaurus is a Carcharodontosaurid meaning they are morely built for Slicing through prey unlike T-Rex which can crush through it's prey with it's insanely powerful bite.

@tossupeater and the bigger the predator the more oppurtunities they have, the small predators will have to give up their meal if say Giganotosaurus or T Rex came along to take the food they hunted, like a hadrosaur. also food is extremely scarce in the dinosaur times, especially the carnivores, abelisaurs such as Carnotaurus usually scavenge, because they aren't too much well built for fighting and hunting that much and are extremely lightweight compared to a lot of the prey they ate. if the predators lost the chance and their prey got away, will leave them to starve for long time, predators have the hardest times trying to survive in this world compare to prey animals, and omnivores

Trex is a dump truck on two legs. I’m sure it was not only a powerful confident Hunter but the strongest bully in the food chain of all time. It must have stunk, had strong color patterns, and possibly a mane similar to a male lion. My theory is the little arms were used to ruffle that feathery mane for show, mating, and intimidation. A predator that robust with a one bite kill would never be challenged unless it was a larger Trex. All the Spino and Giga VS are silly. This animal fought other trex for territory food and mates. Only a megalodon had a stronger bite force but I’m also certain trex had a bite similar to a Komodo dragon in terms of it being strife with deadly bacteria. It’s teeth are meant to crush bone and inflict mortal wounds, there is no predator or prey that would survive.

Just to step in and answer your question about how a dinosaur can be accepted as an apex predator and a scavenger: this is a common trait with all carnivores, whether mammalian, reptilian or avian. Just because your species may be apex hunters does not preclude you from taking advantage of a free meal. If a Rex, Acro, spino, sarcho or any other predator of the era found a dead carcass with meat, they would feed. It’s always easier to scavenge than to hunt. That doesn’t diminish their hunting accolades.

The scavenger rex theory makes no sense. The rex possessed almost every single thing that would be essential for a predator. Forward facing eyes, an incredible sense of smell, bone-crushing bite, great inteligence, the list goes on. There is no evidence at all suggesting that it was a scavenger, and sure, it may have had a slow running speed, given that it was too robust, but it was most likely more adapted for standing and fighting instead of chasing down.

Every predator scavenges and kills. They need a lot of calories to survive. It's really that simple, he's not one or the other, he's both. Just like all the rest of the predators that have ever existed (including US!). Too suggest that a massive animal like the t rex is going to snub his nose at a dead animal laying there ready to be eaten, is ridiculous. In the animal kingdom it's all about conservation of energy, if dude is walking by and sees a buffet laid out that he doesn't need to chase down and kill, he's going to stop and stuff his face. Why is this not obvious? Does everyone think the T rex was too prideful to do such a disgusting thing? haha

This scavenger/predator argument is dumb. It's like saying real herbivores wouldn't eat leaves off the ground. He was an opportunist. If he found a dead animal, of course he was going to eat it. An animal like the t-rex must need 400-500lbs of food a day just to maintain weight. I'm sure ALL predator dinosaurs did the same thing. Apex predators today don't turn away free eats. Just saying.
