The truth is even brilliant scientists have no way of proving how a singularity coming about and into existence at a finite moment (as is predicted by the equations of general relativity) and currently expanding with an edge can exist without outside agency, a creator, GOD.
EBER: Would we have solved the problem as to how or where the raw material that gave rise to the Big Bang originated-the singularity?
HAWKING: We might decide that there wasn't any singularity. The point is that the raw material doesn't really have to come from anywhere. When you have strong gravitational fields, they can create matter.
WEBER: But that's assuming that there's already something, namely the strong gravitational field, which is the source for the matter.
HAWKING: There doesn't really have to be any beginning to the universe. It might be that space and time together are like the surface of the Earth, but with two more dimensions, with degrees of latitude playing the role of time. In that sense, you can say that the surface of the Earth starts off at a single point at the north pole and as you move downwards in latitude; the circle gets bigger, and that corresponds to the universe expanding. When you get down to the equator, you reach a maximum size, and that corresponds to the universe reaching a maximum size.
WEBER: Why is it so important whether there is or is not an edge to space-time?
HAWKING: It obviously matters because if there is an edge, somebody has to decide what should happen at the edge. You would really have to invoke God.
If you like, it would be a tautology. You could define God as the edge of the universe, as the agent who was responsible for setting all this into motion. If you want a complete theory, then we would have to know what happens at the edge. Otherwise, we cannot solve the equations.

nycinstyle but if you invoke god you must define him and his magical powers as well. You might say "but this is magic" but at a point, scientists thought magnets were magical as well from being able to draw metals toward them, to generating electricity, to generating a force with a change in current and now it is one of the most well known and studied phenomenon.

    • @mcmarkmarkson7115
      @mcmarkmarkson7115 Před 8 lety +153

Greg S Because for logic you need consistency. A belief in something you don´t know anything about is not logical as I define it. A belief that god created the universe in 7 days is not logical (also the universe is still expanding) A belief that we are all a product of incest (Adam and Eve the only humans...urg)
A belief that a god is loving yet condemns people to eternal torture is not logical. Or sacrificing his son the way he did.
If god wants humans to pray and worship him. He should speak up now since we have cameras now and would´t have to trust a 2000 year old book without any proof anything in there is true. An all knowing god should know how skeptical people with free will would be of writing like that.
It´s also not logical how the church is absurdly rich since it accumulated it´s wealth with it´s reign of terror in the past and shares very very VERY little with the poor and homeless.
To finish my point: Logic needs reason and there is no reason to belief in something you don´t know anything about but fairy tales. Is belief in Santa Claus logical?
Belief in god makes you stop thinking. That may be helpful if thinking gives you bad memories and you are too weak to comfort the negativity on your own. Or because your friends and family and local community are religious too and you grew up with it and don´t want to be left out.

    • @35snarf
      @35snarf Před 8 lety +7

I'll address most of your points.
      1) there's no reason to interpret 6 days creation literally. In fact, this was even understood in the 3rd century as seen thru the writings of Origen and Augustine.
      2) Who said you can't hold an evolutionary viewpoint and believe in God? I'm a Catholic, and the Church accepts it as very likely.
      3) we are only punished according to what we do and if we love God. If I refuse to accept the drive within me to search for God, then I will go to Hell *because God will not force me to be with Him forever in heaven*. Would you want to spend eternity with God if you didn't want him here? No. While in Hell, I would be punished according to whatever unforgiven sin I committed. The counter to that is seeking forgiveness from God.
      4) the Catholic Church is the single most charitable organization in the world. A large portion of its wealth that people criticize is focused in preservation of art and history. You don't see museums being criticized though, do you?
      5) Finally, none if what you present disproves or even makes unlikely the existence of God. I asked if it is unreasonable to believe in a creator God. So, *why is it unreasonable to believe that the one thing that is non-contingent, eternal, and set the universe in motion is an ultimate creative being: God*?

    • @mcmarkmarkson7115
      @mcmarkmarkson7115 Před 8 lety +61

Greg S 1) True. That´s why you don´t call it fact´s but belief. Good point.
      2) You can! I said you SHOULD NOT. Because God is getting smaller the more knowledge we get of the universe. How much of the bible is simply wrong? Ever checked it?
      3) So If I don´t want to go into heaven but did´t sin...where do I go? I did not refuse to accept the drive within me to search god. I looked and I found him. He is an old human definition for things humans could´t explain (Like fire and stars)
3.1 God kinda forces me to his will. Not wanting to submit to his will is a promised eternal punishment by the rules he put in place as written by various humans.
3.2 What sins do children that die in birth commit and what do they do after their death.Sucks on gods tit? Grow up? Cause no entropy..cause you are dead...not alive...
3.3 What is gods will anyway. Can you say it in your own words without quoting? And do you really qualify for heaven (He kinda has a lot of rules
      4) proof? The Catholic Church is also the wealthiest and has had a long time of a tyrannical rule to acquire all that wealth for hundreds of years. Until Martin Luther stopped it a little bit at least (Since the church has been squeezing out the majority they had trouble feeding their families. Not prosper like the church with total autority.
The Catholic church has a lot to pay for. How much do you know about the church finances? I bet very little.
      5. Lastly. Because since science has been created the existence of god seems less and less likely, not the other way around. We don´t know everything but if you claim god for everything that we don´t know of yet...well just wait until we disprove whatever you think god is.
There is neither logic or reason to belief in god So tell my why I should? In my belief it would serve poor people more if the money a church costs (several million. depending on size) would be spend on creating a home and food for poor people. Not just spend a little bit from your total income.
And the church is NOT the most charitable institution.I will disprove you instantly when you try with facts :D

    • @35snarf
      @35snarf Před 8 lety +6

Before I answer the other responses, I would like your proper response to #5. It wasn't a scientific question that I asked you, where you can simply say, "science hasn't provided that answer..._yet_...therefore, the question is irrelevant"
      (quotes used for paraphrasing).
Did I not give a very logical reason for God: *What do you propose set the universe in motion and/or brought it into creation?* What else could it be? By virtue of it causing/moving nature, is it not supernatural? Does it not appear to be an eternal, all-powerful, creative/designing entity, given the outcome (i.e. The universe)? This is a question that is philosophical, not scientific.
You've not answered this other than saying _there is no logical reason to believe_.

Just read the Quran, Torah or the Bible. Those books are flooded with such toxic traits and of taken litteral on can think their toxic behavior is "God's" absolute moral will.

@@georgehunt6381 The Bible is full of some of the most sadistic crap. And if taken litteral it can influence people to act in a very negative way. Just look at all the hate expressed by Religious fanatics and fundamentalist. Look at the Dark Ages. Look at the Crusades. Now most Christians now a days are not this evil (most don't take the Bible litteral anymore) but we can't turn a blind eye to the sadistic stuff in the Bible and act like it can't be used to promote hate.
Here are some examples of such evil:
      Genocide:
The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (and the death of every person inside) (Genesis 19:24), the destruction of Jericho (Judges 1:8), the massacre of the Philistines (Samuel 23:2), the genocide of the Gezrites and Amalekites which “left neither man or woman alive” (Samuel 27:8) the killing of 127,000 Syrians because they said the Israelites worshiped a God of the hills but not a God of the valleys (1st Kings 20:28), the murder of every member of the religion of Baal (2nd Kings 10:19-27) killing 120,000 men for not worshipping God (2nd Chronicles 28:6) and killing two thirds of the Moabites and making the rest slaves (2nd Samuel 8:2).
      Racism/Discrimination:
Chapter 25 of the book of Numbers (verses 1-13) tells of when the Israelis began to inter-marry (it uses the term “commit whoredom”) with the Moabites, a neighbouring ethnic group with a different religion. This provoked the rage of God who commanded Moses to “hang them”. One man had married a “Midianitish”. An Israeli, Phinehas killed both of them with a javelin. God praises him for this and declares he “hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel.” He then rewards him with a “covenant of peace” and the covenant of everlasting priesthood.” Moral of the story, God doesn’t want you to mix with people other you’re own.
Mixed marriages are denounced again. When Nehemiah was governor he found that Jews had inter-married with other ethnic groups. He “cursed them, and smote certain of them” for committing “this great evil”. He concludes with a malicious vague sentence Thus “cleansed I them from all strangers”. (Nehemiah 13:23-30) The exact form of this ethnic cleansing is not described. Yet this is included (without criticism) in the Christian holy book and we are supposed to worship and live our lives according to it.
Far from being open to all people, non-Israelis were actually banned from joining the religion. “An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever;” (Deuteronomy 23:3) So even if an extremely distant ancestor was from a neighbouring ethnic group, you could not become a Jew. Only pure Israelis could join.
The book of Nehemiah (chapter 13) records that when people were told of this law, “they separated from Israel all the mixed multitude.” (Nehemiah 13:3) So here we have an ancient version of ethnic cleansing.
      Sexism:
The sexism begins at the very beginning of the Bible where man is crated first (the implication being as he’s more important). Woman on the other hand is created from a small part of man’s body (his rib) as “a help” for man (Genesis 2:18). The standard argument to justify sexism for centuries quoted Genesis claiming God himself intended women to solely attend the needs of men. Just to make it clear when Adam and Eve are banished from Eden (note how in the story Eve is the guilty one while Adam is innocent, further justification for sexism) as punishment god declares that Adam “shall rule over thee”. (Genesis 3:16) This we have the beginning of the justification for the second class treatment of women.
It only gets worse. Women are not to have any influence; in fact it is preferable that they do not even speak. 1st Corinthians (14:34-5) says “Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak: but to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame to speak in the church.” So not only should they not speak but they should also obey their husbands (the only cases where I have heard the use of obedience in the house is for children and dogs). They should also be kept ignorant of anything their husband doesn’t want them to know. Way to go Bible on degrading the status of half the world’s population!
Just in case I’m using an extreme or obscure example, I’ll give more examples. Ephesians 5:22-5 “Wives submit yourselves unto your husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church.” So your husband is like God and should be obeyed as such. This arrogance is clear proof that the Bible was man-made. Colossians 3:18 also declares “Wives, submit yourselves unto your husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.” So hear that ladies, God is telling you to do everything your husband tells you.
This is not all; in fact I’m only getting going. 1st Timothy 2:11-5 says “Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.” This is probably the most offensive and sexist comment of them all. It combines forbidding women to speak, keeping them in subjugation (according to the dictionary this means to bring under control or to enslave), declaring they can never be above man (presumably then always beneath him) and tops it off by proclaiming they have nothing worth listening to.
Then there is Romans 7:2 which says “For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth.” St Peter (the one who founded the Christian Church) said (1st Peter 3:1-3) “ye wives, be in subjugation to your own husbands.” This is a practice the Church continues to promote to this day.
      Slavery:
“You may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way.” (Leviticus 25:44-46)
“When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property.” (Exodus 21:20-21)
“Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ.” (Ephesians 6:5)
“Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts.” (1 Timothy 6:1-2)
      Pedophilia:
Joseph as grown man marries a 12-13 year old Mary.
It's OK to sell your daughter (no mention is made of age) to a man for him to use as a sex slave.
if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant ... If she please not her master, who hath betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed ... If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish. Exodus 21:7-10
      Homophobia:
Lol I'm not even going to comment on that. There are far too many texts to choose from

Atheists have "faith" that no god would exist that would eternally punish a sentient being for being rational, logical, and honest, and seeking the truth as BEST we can, rather than what you propose which is to PRETEND to believe and then expect a god to not recognize this false pretense. I think God would reward those who are most honest with themselves, if he indeed does exist. Those who are fakers, can go to hell. Including faking a belief in any god.

A specific God is irrelevant until any form of God can first be proven. God (whichever God) is a necessary being. We as humans, within our universe are contingent. This means that we (and the universe) must come from something as we continue into our existence, making us contingent. God, however, is necessary, meaning that he is the fundamental being that is and forever will be the source of all things. Nothing has created God, for he is not contingent, and as humans our minds are simply incapable of processing this factor, as we are restricted to the laws of our contingent universe.

But then thet get to the New Testament and they cannot disprove Christ. There is to much evidence, by the Scriptures, others historians of that time, and other major religions that prove Christ walked the earth and was crucified.
So, atheists are changing the dates of events and the times the books were written along with the authors names of the books, anything to try and disprove the Word of God.
They want to do this so they can live their life as they please, do as they want, with no consequences.
But since God is the Almighty and creator of all things, His Word will stand forever. And Scripture clearly shares that those who reject Christ and choose to die in their sins will pay the penalty of eternal separation from God, and I'll leave at that.

Many religious people contributed greatly towards science and scientific theories, which allowed us to build on them and advance. The foundation was set by many religious people, and without a foundation you can't build a house. Unfortunately these people aren't mentioned often because they were of a particular "religion". All this reality could not evolve randomly by itself, without intelligence behind, from that singularity expanded at Big Bang, that singularity coming from what? from nothing? The evolution of the Universe to the present time reality proves intelligence, otherwise nothing more complex like intelligent life could ever be produced.
The "intelligence behind", mentioned above, may be the exact value of the speed of light matching the manifestation of what we call "gravity" working together since the primordial conditions to form in the end intelligent life that is able to feel/understand/admire/enjoy/respect/love the Creator.
1/2 > 1/3 > 1/4 > ... 1/n > ... 1/infinite proves that we can go infinitely to smaller numbers greater than zero, which in physics means that we can go infinitely to smaller things, in other words science will never be able to know from what this reality is made.
No matter how small a particle is, the system of reference can be decreased to its level of size and see that it is made from smaller things, and so on, this is the infinite involved. In other words, anything is made from something smaller and also it is included in something bigger. Any physicist knows this fact but most of them will not admit it publicly.

I used to be Christian until I realized how idiotic it was. It would have made sense back in a time where our universe was mysterious and complex and scientific principles were just starting. Now as our technology progresses we start to discover more things about our creation. Religion is basically an easy way out to explain the unexplained instead of diving deeper to find its actual source.

Think about a logical explanation of how the universe existed. Here is an argument I would like you to consider.
      1. Whatever begins to exist has a cause
      2. The universe began to exist
      3. Therefore, the universe has a cause
Someone had to create the universe, I can't just make itself, because then it would have to already exist, which means the universe exist before it exist. Therefore someone made the universe.

It amazes me the level of denial people of faith have. They've been so brainwashed they can no longer entertain the idea that there may not be a god. As if "mora law" couldn't possibly have been invented and written by man. Religion is a man made IDEA. God didn't radio signal these ideas into someone's head so they could document them for all mankind. Think about hour outrageous that sounds. Have a look at how the Mormon faith was created. Joseph smith invented a religion on his own terms and people actually followed him. It's not far fetched to believe that someone did something similar 2000 years ago with Christianity. Especially with no way for common people to fact check these bizarre ideas.

Christians have been very effective with their methods to pray the gay away. The have created a culture that views gays as immoral and lower in sociopolitical standings. This effect means Christian gays are 30% more likely to commit suicide, and in many peoples opinion it raises the non-christian suicide rate as well. Here is their effect on the world.
On July 9, 2010, fifteen-year-old Justin Aaberg of Andover, Minnesota, hanged himself in his own bedroom. His mother claimed school bullies had frequently targeted him because of his homosexuality.1
Billy Lucas, another fifteen-year-old from Indiana, was next. His mother found him hanging from the rafters of their barn on September 9 after enduring, according to a close friend, ongoing harassment from classmates, including shouts of encouragement to “go kill himself” because he was a “fag.”2
Two weeks later, a thirteen-year-old, straight-A student from Houston, Texas, named Asher Brown followed suit. On September 23, a classmate reports, the homosexual boy was kicked down a flight of school stairs by another student, whose friend then kicked his books away from him before booting Asher down the remaining steps. The next day he used his stepfather’s 9mm Baretta to shoot himself.3
Within four days, a second thirteen-year-old’s life ended when Seth Walsh of Tehachapi, California, hanged himself in his backyard after suffering years of anti-homosexual bullying.4
And finally, in perhaps the most publicized of the cases, Rutgers University student and musician Tyler Clementi jumped off a New Jersey bridge after the nineteen-year-old’s roommate secretly videotaped Tyler’s sexual encounter with another man, then streamed the images to countless viewers over the Internet.5

My own proof: Proving God is 100% indeniably REAL
Just think, isn't it convenient that the earth is the only planet that is perfectly filled, and placed with elements such as oxygen, hydrogen, water, and carbon for sustaining life and, has humans living? The earth is designed SPECIALLY and DIFFERENTLY from the rest of the planets because it is the only planet for humans and living beings to live in. Do you notice the themes here? It is that, it matches and aligns EXACTLY with the Bible's Book of Genesis. God made the earth, and that humans and living beings are ONLY in the earth , as God made and intended. There's no other humans in other planets, aside from the earth. Before telescopes, space, and spacecrafts were even discovered, the Bible was already made. Also, they have a HUGE time gap. The Bible was made between 1200 and 165 BC. The first telescope that was made was in 1608 AD. We discovered space and spacecraft in the 20th century.
So how come people were able to make the Bible and say those facts during those times when they had no technology to know them? And if they get something wrong, everything will just be proven wrong?
So, it just cannot be that humans during those time "made God and the Bible," just from their imagination and knowledge because there's no way for them to know, the FACT about the earth being the only planet with humans and sustaining life, with no technology at their time, and that was what was written in the Bible. They must have had a connection and message from a higher power, to know those facts that they wrote in the Bible. And that is what they said, that they got inspired by the Holy Spirit to make the Bible and it just matches all the time. a Haha! So do not deny, just laugh, rejoice, and be glad that somebody made you realize that God is 100% real. ACCEPT and proclaim God into your lives. This is my discovery that I personally made, based on facts, cannot be denied but only accepted.

    @Alex-st8de Před 8 lety +25

Religion is essentially a massive game of Chinese whispers played on a global scale, and mostly developed in roughly the following way:
    1. Our early ancestors would have mourned the passing of relatives.
    2. Those who had the biggest impact on the lives of others would be remembered more.
    3. In time, those who are remembered the most for their deeds, wisdom, courage and so on become revered by new generations through oral tradition.
    4. Traditions such as burying the dead with their possessions, marking graves and creating shrines emerge.
    5. Honouring the memory of the dead is an important part of life, helps people mourn but also invokes the feeling that their 'spirit' lives on, through their children and family by following their example.
    6. Generations later and with communities and civilisations growing, where stories of various families and people get mixed together; revering the dead slowly turns into worship
    7. The idea that the dead they worship are not completely gone from the world gives comfort, purpose and meaning. It is also a powerful tool for the ruling elite.
    8. In time pagan religions surface, multiple families of gods that mirror the deeds, wisdom, courage and other attributes that man is capable of. As well as the bad.
    9. Life revolves around farming and the seasons and thus, gods of rain, fertility, harvests and so on emerge.
    10. Increasing populations lead to conflicts and war; gods of war, gods of peace, gods of reason and so on emerge.
    11. People pray to different gods depending on what they need the most; in times of war - pray to the god of war for victory; times of peace - pray to the gods of good harvest; want children - pray to the goddess of fertility.
    12. In the middle east, one of the pantheon of gods -Yahweh the warrior god sees an increase in followers and worshippers during hard times.
    13. When the peoples fortunes increase, a devout following emerges for Yahweh. They consider him to be the only god who 'answered' them. They believe he is the only god who should be followed.
    14. In time, the argument is inevitably put forward by his devout followers that he is in fact the only god.
    15. Politically, any ruling elite that aligns themselves with the leading religion become stronger. (Later in history, rulers will be seen as an extension of god and this allows them to rule with absolute control; questionable decisions can be made without public consequence and young men can be sent to war on the basis of religion)
    15. Some men are more devout than others, many attempt to convince and convert the believers of other gods. One man in particular gains traction and a reputation for his speeches, it causes unrest and for political reasons as much as anything else, the Romans have him crucified.
    16. The followers who's ancestors started worshipping one god out of many during a time of oppression and need, and who themselves had found comfort in following Jesus during a time of oppression and need, use him as a martyr to further the cause.
    17. The sense of injustice, both in the occupation of the lands by romans and the death of Jesus helps the new Christian faith to grow through the region.
    18. Eventually the ruling roman elite, just as they had used the pagan gods to claim divinity in rule by being descendants of Mars and Jupiter and other gods, would claim divinity through the christian god in their rule. Mirroring earlier ancestors who revered their dead and seek to follow their examples.
    19. A large empire, common languages, trade routes and opportunities for migration proves the perfect incubator for the first major religion to emerge. Right time, right place.
    20. In the same way Christianity broke out of Judaism, Islam emerges in non other than the middle east region where the belief in one god already exists. Judaism had itself emerged from earlier versions of religious following, which like all religion had come to popularity with what the people needed at that particular moment.
    21. The fall of the western roman empire, the so called 'dark ages' would give people in need something to hold on to, and give the would be new rulers an opportunity to strengthen their positions.
    22. Western European nations have a massive influence on spreading christianity west across the atlantic for the same reason as the roman empire brought it to western Europe.
    23. Islam spreads East in the opposite direction for the same reasons, empires, trade routes, common language, migration.
The main religions of today are just a continuing evolution of ancient belief systems, with each building on the last, shaped by geography, common language and political manipulation by the ruling elites; even when the manipulation is not intentional, it's so ingrained in certain cultures that it can't help but hold influence. How many times do you hear American leaders mention god in all manner of subjects - particularly during the wars of the last decade in the middle east. Holy war? No. Political tool to send people to war, gain control over oil rich resources? Yes. It's no coincidence that the major religions emerged in the centre of the most important trading routes of the 'Old World'.

that is quite lenghty. to me, this just a very in-depth explination of what i find to be quite obvious (maybe thats just me). but in my opinion, you are over-complicating the "origin" of religion. supersticious beliefs already existed in the stone age.. judging by cave paintings of "spirits/beings" that were clearly portrayed as supernatural.
in the animal kingdom, curiosity, creativity and imagination are two fundemental emotion/abilities possessed by the intelectual brain. these two abilities are highly advanced in the human brain.. it has been crucial for our development and science. but it has also created superstision.
religion/folklore socially evolved in our culture to explain what we didnt understand, aswell as giving humans some sense of greater purpose. i dont belive there is a complex "formula" for the creation of religion. i think it just comes naturally to us, just like thoughts and imagination comes naturally to us.

    • @Alex-st8de
      @Alex-st8de Před 7 lety +2

Merlith Gero Haha yeah if I remember right I couldn't sleep!
Erm that's basically what I was saying though. It has developed organically over vast periods of time, not a formula as you point out but a natural development, religion is very reflective of how our societies are in terms of hierachy, or structure and older religions are reflective of the societies that existed at the time.
I don't think it's a coincidence that pagan religions of a spiritual disposition towards gods/spirits of wind, rain, sun, etc, developed first when the human population was sparse and vast landscapes and animals were untouched by us, but as we've grown and formed civilisations religions, pantheons of gods emerge with social structures not unlike the ruling classes.
Definitely interesting looking at religion from a far with a clear mind though isn't it?

Now full of betrayal, hatred, anger and jealousy torwards God and the people who diddent follow the "rules". You want these people to pay, you want them to get what they deserve, and in doubt if hell acually exists you make life like hell for them. Because you yourself made great sacrifices to live that religious life. Because if you truely belived all of it you wouldent have a motive to be expressing these kind of emotions. God would take care of us anyway, so why bother doing it yourself? Why do you have the urge to tell someone that they are going to hell? The anser is: because someone did that to you. You want people to understand you. I get that, i want that to, we all do. We are all equalls, so treat people like you want to be treated. I am sure you know about the golden rule. I dont blame you for anything. If i where you i would have done everything just like you did, choice is an ilusion. Although i think a reasonable amount of pantheists are aware that this "metaphysical entity" may not exist. Pantheism however offers more than just believing in this "god".
Atheism (generally speaking) is lacking "spirituality", . Pantheism provides this "spirituality" and at the same time Pantheism, like Atheism, embraces science/common logic( in contrary to christianity, islam).
Don't believe what all these people say about pantheism or this "metaphysical being". They don't know what they are talking about. I don't consider this supernatural part about pantheism to be that important.

+Pieter Lindeque there are two problems with your remark:
      1) You assume god is entirely metaphysics. But that's not true. God, according to all major religions, is said to be able to intervene into the natural world. Answering prayers, for example. If such claim is true, then we should be able to detect this intervention with science because science is the study of the natural world, so whatever that goes on in the natural world (even when from god) we should be able to study it.
Well guess what - science has indeed studied it. Prayers, for example. Science shows that prayers do not work. At best, all prayers are is merely a form of placebo effect, nothing more.
So if religions are wrong about prayers, then what else are they wrong about?
      2) Lets assume we're not talking about religions but just talking about god. So purely metaphysical. ok - perhaps science is the wrong tool to study. BUT WHAT IS? Science is our ONLY reliable tool for knowledge. If science cannot study X, then NOTHING ELSE CAN.
And since BURDEN OF PROOF rests on the theists to prove their claims, if they can't do so with reliable evidence (whatever it may be, not necessarily science), then why should we believe them?

+Prince Studios Atheist here. Quite frankly, I find the idea of heaven, purgatory, hell, whatever life after death to be depressing and unfavorable. The idea of nonexistence is actually MORE appealing to me than any of those afterlives. You see, for any afterlife (in this case, a heaven) out there, or even just life after death, they typically promise eternity. A never ending life after death. At first, this seems appealing. You do not have to die, there is no suffering, just eternal enjoyment with what you like as well as with those you care about. However, eventually, this will grow tiresome. You will, inevitably, exhaust all possible things you could do multiple times over. There will be no new experiences, nothing new to learn. There will be no conflict, no struggle to appreciate the good. Eventually, life after death will become pointless, a bore. After all, what's the point in life if there is nothing left to learn or do? Of course, there is no way out. You are stuck that way for eternity. It's a worse ending than nonexistence, as at least with that, one's life can end on a good note, but for heaven, there is no way out, and you are doomed to be in it for eternity.
There's more arguments I could make, but I'll save those for a later time.

+Prince Studios I can see how we could see that as depressing but when you look at it from a different angle, the idea of no afterlife gives you all the more reason to strive for a great life. because if there's nothing after this you wanna make sure you lived the best life you can. now as a Christian myself, the idea of an afterlife gives the same effect. because after we die we want to look back on our lives and see how great it was am I right? so honestly regardless of believe or religion or lack of it. we're all just people who should strive to be better. and I believe God loves each and everyone of you just as you are. just continue to be better guys. 😊

Yufery l can see your point, but the reason why heaven is so great is because there is no sense of "time." Think of it like a trip to an amusement park. While you are there, you are having so much fun that time seems to fly because of it. That is what heaven is like because we would experience God himself, and that would be so amazing to see a being so perfect and good that we would forget about time completely.

Radar The human body literally cannot function without a working brain. It's science and common knowledge that all humans have brains, including atheists, and that even humans with incredibly low IQ's have working brains. Also, CAT scans, IQ tests, and MRI's all prove that atheists have functioning brains, sometimes to superior or genius levels, just like Christian brains or the brains of other religious people. It could even be argued, though I have no evidence to currently support this, that many atheists have high functioning brains because they ask copious amounts of questions and don't take anything on faith. Rather, they tend to rely on logic, reason, and curiosity, which keeps them a step ahead of some people. It's a known, observable, measurable fact that functioning brains exist in all people who are not clinically brain dead. It is faith that states that Hell exists, even though there is no proof that it does. Belief means little in the face of facts. That being said, I'm glad you have something to believe in, hopefully something that gives you comfort. I only wish it gave you morals as well.

I’m atheist but a good argument goes:
Let’s assume the big bang occured, thing “A” must have caused the big bang, thing “B” must cause thing “A”, etc etc because we can’t get something from nothing. we get an infinite regression of causal events, and we cant justify there being a “first” event.
Therefore.. the thing that kickstarted this deterministic pattern must be beyond the loop of space and time. that thing could be god (or not)
theres good counter arguments to this too but I thought it was interesting.

    • @MCGrassblock210
      @MCGrassblock210 Před 6 lety +1

Anonymous G That’s not a counter argument in the first place. You (as in the person making the argument) are still assuming that this god exists regardless. On top of that, if you can’t exactly “Prove” the big bang occurred at that time, how exactly can you say a god would exist even before that time? How would they even tell? It’s flawed.

I am a former christian, now atheist. I was always faithful to my
religion and did my best to stay on the path "my God" had chosen for me.
I always read the bible and that was actually one of the biggest
    reasons for my change.
The first thing that convinced me to become atheist was the actual
concept of any god existing. The idea of an invisible, all-powerful
celestial being that knew everything and was the creator of life and
earth makes no sense to me. Next, was the fact that there is no physical
evidence of Jesus ever being here on earth, aside from the bible (which
over time has had different translations and events that differ very
    slightly from each version).
Then I read the bible more intently as i just thought my faith was being
tested my "God" and i realized the amount of absurdities and
    contradictions the bible makes.
For example: Matt. 9:18 "My daughter had just died; but come and lay your hand on her and she shall live" Matt. 9:24-26
"Jesus responded by saying: "'Go away! The girl is not dead she is
asleep' and they laughed at him.... he went into the room and took the
girl by the hand and she got up."
Now the question must be asked, was the maiden dead or just "asleep" as
Jesus claimed? If she was dead, Jesus had lied by saying she was asleep.
If she was asleep, Jesus did no miracle but deceived people into
    thinking he did.
Ex. 33:23 (KJV) "....thou shalt see my back parts:but my face shall not be seen."
Gen. 32:30 "....I have seen God face to face..."
John 5:22 "The Father does not judge anyone, but he has given full jurisdiction to the Son"
John 8:15 "I pass judgement on no one"
Ex. 33:20 "My face, you cannot see for no mortal may see me and live"
Gen. 32:30 "Jacob said.... I have seen God face to face and yet my life is spared."
Jesus encouraged murder. (Luke 19:27) "....as for those enemies of mine who did not want me for their king, bring them here and slaughter them in my presence."
Jesus made himself unavailable to us (John 7:34)
"You will look for me but you will not find me and where I am, you
    cannot come."
God unambiguously states he is responsible for evil on Earth (Isa 45:7)
"I make peace and create evil..."
Then there were the false prophesies such as...
God told adam that should he eat the apple, he will die that day, but
according to Gen 5:5 He had died at age 930.
Jesus says "I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the
    father except by me."
Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Elijah all accomplished the journey without
Jesus. In fact Elijah made his way into heaven without having heard of
    Jesus
Then there were the times God had "proven his loving existence" but killing innocent people who simply did not believe or were given insufficient evidence
Science has actual decades worth of evidence backing up evolution and the big bang theory ( the science theory not the good tv show)
I have many more but please feel free to stand up for your religion.
    I'll be waiting....

something to note in my case is i'm still a minor so i live with my parents and my mom is religious, not as in the "god above everything else" religious but she is an active member on our national church counsel, my dad on the other hand grew up with a Muslim mother so he has is not as interested in Christianity or religion as a whole. Now i still go to church as i haven't come out as atheist to my family yet because i am on reddit a lot and have heard stories of people being disowned and worse happenings by their families after coming out. my family aren't so religious they would turn their back on me for my choice in religion but even with my open relationship with my family i am still afraid of what would happen. in school and my social life, however i am very open about my beliefs (or lack thereof) I told them after i asked why do they believe.

+Calumn Scholtz have you told people yet? I'm 16 and I can tell you what happened to me. I was in a similar situation where on the contrary my dad was religious and my mom not so much. regardless, when I decided to tell them. I could see a certain level of disappointment, but he reassured me it's okay and that he'll always be there to support me whether I'm atheist or not. which was pretty surprising and I have a great level of respect for my dad for being that way. However, what I noticed the most for me was the social change at school. I told all my friends (when it became relevant) about me being atheist. I indeed did lose some friends. they wouldn't flat out tell me it was because of me being atheist. but they were all Christian and stopped being my friend do suspiciously close to when I told them I was atheist. after around a month or so just about everyone who knew who I was knew I was atheist. and although I wouldn't go so far as to say I was bullied or ridiculed, I could see a shift in the way people started looking at me, and first impressions from the people I met seemed to be hindered with preemptive judgement due to my atheism. but it also gave me a sense of enlightenment, I'm proud to be an atheist. Overall, I don't regret my decision to reveal my atheism at all. All of my really close friends remained close friends afterwards. I did this about a year ago and I can say that after a year people have full well come to terms with what I belive in ( I really should say lack of what I believe in aha). You might lose a friend or two, but any good friend should remain your friend after you reveal it to them. Otherwise they prolly weren't that good of friends in the first place.

I am 15 and have come out as an atheist to my Christian mother and father about a year ago. Typically, your friends who are the same age as you will be more accepting towards differences (religion, sexuality, etc.) than adults. My parents have pretty much spent every day trying to convince me into believing hypocritical nonsense. They claim I am the one who is not "open-minded" and "educated." They believe I am morally weak due to my disagreement with them as to how the world was created. Chances are, no matter how good of people they are, your parents will not believe the logic you present them and will likely think less of you due to your beliefs. However, I do not think it would be a good idea to spend your life in the closet by not telling your parents what you do and do not believe in. My advice is: talk to them in a serene environment while they are in a good mood and present logical and moral arguments to support your claim. Good luck.
