HOW TO SEW a partial flat front waistband with ties?

- Dear Sewing Friends, in this video I would love to share with you how I make these partial flat front waistbands with ties and 3 rows of elastic. I find that this looks is quite flattering and fun and perfect for pants, shorts and skirts. Please note that if you want to do a full flat front - then you will need to gather the front pants pattern pieces before attaching them to the waistband, otherwise your side seam is going to be moved towards the back of the pants and the entire looks will be very unflattering, that is why I only do a small portion in the front, so that way it is cute, but does not interfere with other elements of the pants.

I appreciate the caption explaining the issues with the full flat front! Very thoughtful of you.
That's a really cool way of making a waist band look more finished and pretty. I love your videos. ❤
Thank you, Bernie! It can also be made without a flat front and just all elastic. I like that it gives that neat stitching between the elastic lines without fiddling around! :) and... uses up all that narrow elastic that I have! win-win :)
❤❤❤❤❤❤ thanks so much for sharing this!!!
It is my pleasure, I love this type of waistband for summer time and comfort!
Would you recommend multiple strips of elastic rather than one wider strip? Could you use a wider strip and run 2 or 3 rows of stitching around to secure it?
Great question, Jinny! Those two actually look quite different. I would say doing multiple rows of elastic can you give you the freedom of using as many rows as you would like and therefore making that waistband as thick as needed, using one wide elastic can only depend on how wide the elastic is, which is usually 1.5"-2". Here are shorts tutorial where I do one wide elastic waistband with the finish that you mention - you can see how different that finish looks to what you see in this tutorial :) I hope this helps - czcams.com/video/uzlWsvJLO-g/video.html
This is just the video I’ve been looking for. Should have known you’d have one. Thank you so much. I love all your videos and find them inspiring as well as giving me the skills I need to build on. I love the idea that I can make and adapt my own designs as I learn more and more.
Morning. Happy Holiday As always you score a 10 !!!!!!!
Thank you, Deb, for always being so kind!
Just in time for my summer shorts 👍 🌸 thank you.
Exactly :) and skirt :) and culottes :) he he, so many options :)
I am definitely going to try this!
Hope you like it!
What a great video! I am going to try this method to a skirt.
That will work, too! Any pull on garment where you can insert a regular elastic waistband - this will work :)
This is beautiful.
Awsome tips. Love it. ❤😊
Glad you like them!
Thank you for this tutorial. Plan on using this alot!
I like the look of the finish. I can see it being used on many types of garments.
Oh yes! You can use this on the bottom of a sports jackets or on the cuffs of a blouse or sweatshirt, too. Good thinking, Ruby! Thank you!
Topstitching is your friend!
Ahhh i needed to see this 24hrs ago 😅!
Buongiorno! Spiegazione molto chiara Grazie 😀
Thanks so much. Been wanting to do a waistband like this for ages and couldnt quite figure out the best way to do. .. this is it. ❤
Thank you!!!
Thank you for the tutorial. Tis waistband is really cute.
I’ve just finished the waistband and and I can’t believe how easy it was and it looks so good i’ve tried doing a few other elastic waistbands and they’ve always come out wrong I will be doing this type a lot more thank you a lot
Thanks so much. Simple and professional looking.
Wow! That’s a lovely waistband, thank you for showing, this waistband will be going on my next pants or skirt project. 💐
Just intime ive just almost finished some shorts and skorts
I fold the edges under and stitch from the right side of the project.
❤ thank you so much for this fantastic tutorial
Thank you so much for all your inspirational videos, love what you are doing. Working on my own Palazzo pants at the moment :-), obviously with this waistband ...
That’s brilliant! I’m drafting some shorts for some leftover fabric, Hope I have enough to do this finish🤞I think I’ll have to piece some fabric together, so this might be the solution 😃although possibly have to go without ties this time. Your videos and instructions are great. Thanks Alisa
Great tutorial ❤❤❤
Definitely making
Love it! Excellent tutorial. I have a skirt that I want tobuse this for. Its been unfinished in mybcloset for a while because i didnt like the conventional elastic waistband.
It’s beautiful 😍 thank you so much for this waist band tutorial. Also what is the length of elastic you used?
Love this-is there a place I can go to print the instructions and coordinating photos??
Not something I need but I passed it on!
Awesome! Do you have a video that shows how to do proper measurements for sewing pants for women? I would like to learn how
Yes :) go to my channel and take a look, many pants videos :)
Do you have the pattern for the pants? Love this video! Thank you❤
Sure do, posted a video last week - you can go to my channel and see it there or open the description of this video :)
👍🥰
Good idea, but doesn't that add a lot of bulk to the waist band? Thanks.
Anne, hello there, not sure I understand - what bulk? If you have a gathered waist pant then you already have gathers at the waist, adding a waistband isn't going to change or emphasize that. You can go to my green palazzo pants video and see the drafting/sewing steps.
🧡🧡🧡👋👋👋
Please how many inches did you add to your normal waist measurement to create that
Martha, hello there. Go to the video where I make these pants from start to finish and you will be able to see there.
