A friend of mine, who I got talking to after your last project, who is a lacemaker here in Norway said that you should always have a sampler that you "warm up on" for about 10 minutes or so to get your tension correct before working on your main project. Even after 40 years of making lace, she still has a sampler that she starts with. She said it is like stretching before playing a sport. Gets your mind and fingers focused so that your piece is as good as it can be because you aren't warming up on it. Hope that helps! It looks lovely and I think will make a lovely neckline to any piece you add it to.
Oooooooh that is a wonderful recommendation! Thank you!
@@EnchantedRoseCostumes Happy to help. Your channel is such a wonderful place to come hang out and I hope the rest of your lace-making adventures go as beautifully as this one :)
Iâm going to start doing this with my embroidery too- I can always tell the spots that Iâve âstarted againâ on after a lapse in working!
That's a really good recommendation, I'm gonna use that. I'm a beginner in everything and this will help with pretty much all motor skill activities
I will absolutely use this idea!
Ooooooo, HECK YES TO EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS!!!
Yessssss
Darn it. I thought I could avoid the making itch but I think I am succumbing to all the knot making.
me yesterday: unaware of lace as a do-able at home craft
me now: *looking up to see if my local craft store has lace making supplies*
Yeeeess!!!!! đ„łđ„ł Join us! It is so much fun!!!!! đ
Actually you don't need the tape. You can outline the pattern with a double thread of the same yarn.
The rest is the same techniques.
I 1st saw lace making on Dr Quinn Medicine woman back in the 90's but it never occurred to me to you tube it so I can make my own. (I am a costume maker so oops silly me)
Ooooo what episode of Doctor Quinn? I own the entire series đ
@@EnchantedRoseCostumes It's somewhere near the end. all the ladies are sitting down making the lace for her wedding dress to Sully. around S03E25 (that's the wedding episode so maybe before, it's been like 25 years so not exactly sure) :P
I had no idea that Battenberg lace starts with tape. That you would dare to set out to learn something so complex is a real inspiration.
When you decided to take on learning this process to make a fantasy dress, I thought you were crazy. Now I know you are crazy and I am soooooooo happy that you are! Lovely lace.
đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł I know I am crazy, but half the fun is trying!
I find this magical, to see your beautiful creation growing in front of you. My grandmother was an amazing tatter, I have a hankie with blue tatting on the edge that I w ore pinned to my hoop skirt on my wedding day. One of my finest treasures!
Look how beautifully it lays on your neck, so wonderful! I do believe you are ready for the big time!
Your lacemaking video in January sent me down a MASSIVE lace rabbithole and I ended up taking up tatting as a lockdown hobby, so thank you for that!
When you showed the final collar, I thought that it looks so so beautiful but that you yourself probably mostly see all the tiny imperfections because you have worked on it so close up for a good amount of time - and then you mentioned how your tension changed. Thank you for this video and the previous one, it solved some great mysteries for me. =)
Congratulations on finishing this piece of art. I know how many hours creep in to making a piece like this. I was taught by an old lady who made needle lace for a living in the earlier part of the 20th century (in Flanders). You developed a great technique for yourself. Wonderful job!
This video has magical sunshine garden vibes. I am absolutely in love with this video and the final look of your project. Thank you so much for sharing. It is stunning!
I know understand the quote about nuns going blind making such lace for wedding trim back in the day! So darn tiny! Cheers doll!
The amount of research, preparation, and work you put into this really shows. So, so beautiful!
Oh your happy face just before you unpinned the collar from the pillow đđ I love how this came out, and seeing the process!
The lace you made is gorgeous! Thank you for sharing. Lace making is time consuming yet ever so satisfying.
The photo of you wearing your collar with the wine colored dress was incredible. The collar is STUNNING! Iâm sure youâre so proud of taking the time to learn and to make such a gorgeous and versatile piece. And, youâve even gone a step further and taught people how they too can learn to make lace items. Call me impressed!
I just keep rewatching. I'm so happy you are having fun. Thank you for sharing your adventures
The Modern Maker . Matthew Gnagy. His lace work is amazing, it is needle and thread. You American costumers are sooo talented. Love what gou do.
I wish I was immortal just so I could learn absolutely everything there is to learn regarding fashion. Your videos fascinate me I had never thought about making lace myself and now I wanna know how to do that, I just don't have time to focus on everything I love at the same time especially with my mental illness. But it definitely is a fascinating craft, thank you for sharing
Your smile when you look at your finished project before you take it off the pillow is fantastic. The collar is so so beautiful.
I hope we see more designs for necklaces soon...!!! You work wonderful and lovely creations...!!! So many skills...!!! Such beauty...!!!
What a beautiful lace work Marika
I love the results! However I canât unsee this but the design looks like an elephant bowing with faerie wings and the pearl looks like a star shining above it. I love it! Your making me want to pick up lace making ahh
Hahaha I totally see that đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł đŠđđŠ
Thanks, now I can't unsee it. Love it though. Besides, those spiderwebs on the sides of the pearl looks like stars too.
AlternativeJ đ your welcome lmao!
At 10:12, the look on your face made me smile from ear to ear. LOVE this!
I really don't need yet another hobby, but you make it look so tempting! Your lace turned out beautifully!
This is such a calming video to watch. Perfect for when you're feeling down.
You are actually a wizard. I am Complacently in awe of your spider skills :)
Ohh that looks lovely!! When I saw the final product all I could think of was how much it reminded me of the collars on early 1900's blouses!!
Thank you so much for sharing! It's SO beautiful and it's such a joy to see you so pleased with yourself and your work. You're just lovely!
What a wonderful resource. You should definitely be happy with the end result of this, itâs a gorgeous collar with beautiful stitch work. I got here from Morganâs video, and Iâm so glad I did. I miss costuming.
Well, now I want to learn how to make lace. Just what I need, another hobby. Lol
I had seen your other videos where you discuss lacemaking, but watching this right after watching your recent CoCoVid collab with Morgan makes me feel like this is actually something I could pick up. Seeing Morgan follow your instructions in a way any person might was hugely inspiring, and seeing you make this has given me so many potential ideas!
Beautiful work!!!
My mother is a lacemaker who uses bobbin lace and tatting methods. I have always admired people who have the patience for Battenburg Lace.
Can't wait to see the beauty of your Worth gown.
What an accomplishment! Well done. I have a whole new appreciation for the Battenburg lace that I own.
I just started learning bobbin lace. Now I can add this too hobby wish list.
I am attempting to learn as well. Before Corona!
Darn it! I really didn't need another crafty rabbit hole to fall down, but weirdly that looks like a lot of fun!
Wow! How could anyone criticise your work? I'd never attempt it so for a beginner, the quality of your work is incredible.
Creating something beautiful like this is a absolut dream of mine.
I'm going to go back and watch all your lace videos! This is something I've been wanting to try for a while!!!
I love that you really wanted something and then you went out and learned the skills to handmade the thing. Such an inspiration! Also, you're lace be beautiful đ đ
**falls to the floor** sooooo gorgeous!!!! what an incredible thing you made! I am fully and totally inspired. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge your journey your learning and for not being afraid to show your mistakes and admitting that your not a pro. Who needs pro when you have passion right? A pro is just someone with passion who becomes an expert over time ( though if you ask me I wouldn't say your far from it ) I can't wait to design and make my first collar! Bless you for sharing all the links and the books with us!!! I too squealed with joy seeing that 1900's lace book and you are an angel for sharing it! Fabulous fabulous work I can't even imagine your satisfaction at removing it from the pillow and holding it in your hands for the first time! I am fully looking forward to the exhilarating experience one day. Thank you for helping me get started!
Beautifully done Marika - patience is definitely a virtue đ
This was amazing to watch, the lace is so pretty and you show the technique really nicely. Thank you for this video!
beautiful
it's been years since I learned lace making. I was taught both how to make needle lace and tatting lace.
Very beautifully done. I think when tension is altered when making lace from hand adds character and adds to its beauty. Please continue to teach this art to others. I feel it's kind of a lost art and it's something like crocheting and knitting which is a very useful skill to learn and know. I cannot speak for you but I find lacemaking very relaxing.
Thank you for this video.
This is very cool to see! Thanks for sharing the process. It also reminds me of the tutorials I have seen in 1920s magazines and such where they would take bias strips or tape and lay shapes out like this and use fagoting to stitch it all together similar to this battenburg style.. then they would insert the prices into knickers, dresses, slips, etc. So pretty!
This video is very calming.
Just beautiful, you should be very proud of the end result.. Keep them coming!
The collar turned out absolutely lovely!
Amazing and gorgeous. Even though I had previously seen your sampler video, I never realized that could turn into a piece like you just did. At some future point I want to try this. You know...after all the other projects on my completion list. So many beautiful craft ideas, so little time.
You did a great job. As a bead & embroidery artist (and costumes as well) I think you explain and video exactly what I would want to see. I know the techniques but it is always good to see other people do the same work. Even if you are a beginner. You should be proud of your masterpiece!
This was very soothing and oddly satisfying to watch. Thank you for sharing!
Oh Marika, it's lovely!
So pretty! I'm jealous of how lovely it looks on you! You should be so proud.
Justifiabl pride in this piece!
That's gorgeous
Awesome! I LOVE lace making. So far Iâve only learned crocheted, some knitted, and tatted lace. Apparently anything tedious and time consuming is up my alley. đ„°
It's beautiful! Looking forward to seeing the dress come together!
I admire your craftsmanship and skill a lot. Thank you for the inspiration and good luck with your creativity!
The beginning is the same process as making dream catchers. Interesting.
I may be a bit late to the party here, but one way to add beads to lace is to already have it on the string. Maybe look at lace tatting guides and crochet lace patterns? Some of the books I have on those carry good advice on dealing with beads!
I remember my grandmother making this lace, a;ong with her tatting lace. She began teaching me to tat with a needle when I was four years old. Good job.
:D
I have always liked the look of Battenberg lace. I never dreamed of making it myself...til now. After seeing your beautiful collar, I need to start making some. Thank you for the inspiration and instruction.
That is absolutely beautiful, thank you so much for sharing this with us. You have inspired me to have a go at making some needlepoint lace. xx
Beautiful.Thanks so muchđč
So pretty, now I want one too. Get in the line, new hobby!
Thank you for showing use what I think could be not only a relaxing skill but a truly amazing addition to my skills, Jason from England đ€
Well done!!!! looks fantastic...
This is gorgeous
cannot believe you did that. Gorgeous!
Love this.
It actually prompted me to go back and learn crochet from my mammy again. She tried to teach me years ago and I just wasn't in the mood to sit and fiddle with wool/thread as a teenager but now that I realise that beautiful things can be made by my own hands (eventually) I've got the drive to once again learn...and I always remember her telling me when I was younger how she always regretted not learning from her own mother when she was alive and ended up being taught by her sister's mother-in-law and it's not a regret I want for myself.
So I'm sitting with my mammy, tv in the background, gritting my teeth as she takes the needle and wool out of my hands to show me how to do a new stitch when all I want to do is dive straight into trying it myself.
Thank you Marika for giving me that push that may have eluded me until it was too late.
So much love for you for this.
Oh my goodness, that is so pretty! You did an awesome job!!
WOW!! I knew youâd make something pretty, because of how talented you are, but I never expected to see anything THAT GORGEOUS!!! Wow, young lady, you are a talent!!!! đ€©đ€©đ€©
âșâșâș thank you, you are too kind đ„°
Just amazing. This is a skill Iâve always wanted to learn. Alas, I think Iâll have to leave it for my next life.
That was absolutely beautiful!! â€ïž
WOW, CONGRATULATIONS!!! I wish I lived on your street and we would do lace together amidst the flowers in your yard...lol You are very gifted and I love what you do
Lovely work! I did not need another hobby, but this is fascinating to watch.
Lace making is such an impressive art. Amazing!
Every new stitch you show, I think, âooh, this oneâs my favorite!â and then it becomes dethroned by each subsequent arrival!
Wow that is just astonishing!
Such a fine and detailed work, I find it both interesting and relaxing!
Absolutely exquisite! What a delight to watch and learn!
Thanks so much for this lovely video! After watching your last lace video I decided that it was time I actually had a go at needle lace myself because I have been meaning to for ages. I watched this video while working on my current needle lace project and it was wonderful!
The Outlander books in the background earned you my sub ;)
That looks absolutely amazing! Your gown collar is going to be a true statement piece once you're done with it!
Instant click from Morganâs video which I loved. The detail is fascinating. I learned a bit of bobbin lace making but now seriously want to try this!
Welcome! Bobbin lace is so fun!
Looks absolutely amazing!
This is so inspiring. Magical to watch it all come together.
That's so beautiful! I really don't need another hobby but it's really tempting to give this a try đ
Find someone who looks at you the way ERC looks at a finished lace collar đđ
Your videos documenting this inspired me. I'm getting the supplies needed for this for my 24th birthday and am gonna give it a shot so I can add lace to my clothes!
This is absolutely gorgeous! Its going to be beautiful on the gown.
Absolutely lovely!
That is gorgeous! Great job!
Hello, haven't been here for ages, or Morgan's channel, been "expanding" my mind or getting my "head shrunk" whatever...on another channel featuring one incredibly handsome man, you probably know, initials R.B. Anyhow I just want to compliment you ladies- if you don't have it, you MAKE it! I needed friends like you when I was a teen- I was more than a loner, some people thought I was a nut because of how I dressed- I didn't have cosplay or the talent or biz skills to make money etc. It is relaxing AND stimulating to watch your inventive, gorgeous creations. Keep up the investigative work- nobody should laugh- kripes Morgan makes shoes! Big hug from old hippie, Namaste Z
That is simply amazing!
Stunning... Hope there will be more!! đ
Congratulations!
It looks fantastic!
Oh my goodness that is amazing and is so beautiful!!
Amazing, love it.
The finished lace looks really nice
