@@TheSwordAndThePenREFLECTIONS By the way, I just remembered funny thing. As one of the Lan sources is the, well, Lancelot, the way he treats Moiriane is basically a courtly love. I think it explains a few things.
Brilliant!🙂 My only comment as someone who has read the books many times is I think Lan would say: if she dies, we all die. Lan doesn’t need to threaten, he is death on two legs.
If he felt the need to threaten, I think he would have been more secure, and more oblique. This would have been the writers chance to work in the question that they made the center of the scene originally - for example: "I do not know how you tracked me, if you are not here nursing her when I return, you will not escape me."
🤣😂🤣😂🤣 I didn't want to say it, but I kept wondering if I had more chemistry with myself than the two actors in the show had with eachother. 😆 I still don't know, but I do wonder, a bit.
I smiled the whole time and given your limited filming budget it was SOOOOOO much better than the show. Those scenes were much more consistent with the characters and actually felt like interactions the characters would actually have. This was fun😀
Significantly better than what was in the show. Personally I would have left out the "if she dies, so do you" line altogether. Something along the lines of "if she dies, so does your best chance of seing your friends alive". Overall I think you proved the point that the script needed to have been looked over for character consistency, and also continuity errors. As you say, so many conversations makes no sense given what just happened to them the previous episode or so.
@yeah i agree with this sentiment of 'if she dies so does your best chance of finding them' as Lan would still be smart enough to know it wasn't her fault since swords version let nynayeve explain she's not experienced in all poisons he wouldn't blame her for the death. So he'd go to the blight on a holy warpath of vengence
Yeah, it was one of those lines that I think I would have cut if I edited it before shooting.... alas.... I was angry when I wrote it, and it felt good to have Nynaeve figuratively slapped for her stupid threats.
I like that line, actually, because of the ambiguity. Does he mean that he'll kill her or that she has no chance of survival without her? It fits with the "can we trust her or not" arc we're still in.
Yeah, that line feels more appropriate in response to how Nynaeve acts in the original show version, but not when she's being more reasonable in this rewritten version. To rewrite the rewrite, I think we could back bring back a bit of Nynaeve's petulant attitude. When Lan is leaving she can make some empty threat that she won't heal Moiraine if he doesn't explain himself and Lan simply responds "You won't let her die" in a way that's it's ambiguous if it's a threat or just an assessment of fact before he leaves.
Yes, this is all so much better. For an "angry rewrite" this is such better a interaction than what was in the show. Imagine how better the *show* could have been with an editorial pass. Cheers!
The thing is that Nynaeve should not have been reluctant to heal Moiraine. She might use it as bargaining leverage , but ultimately Nynaeve wants to help people, she can't stand suffering, especially not in an AS that helped her whole village even if that AS did kidnap 4 kids as well.

Damn Amazon should fire everyone working on that show and just hire you. This is easily the best live action adaptation of wot I've ever seen ... after Winter Dragon of course.
@@TheSwordAndThePenREFLECTIONS I hated it when I first saw it, and held a grudge against it because it only existed to retain the TV rights. In the wake of season one though it's aged really well. I dig it. Billy Zane is in it!
I'm thrilled to see that my previous comment was featured on r/WoTshow As a rule that bunch is incapable of taking any criticism of their beloved dumpster fire. I was a bit alarmed to learn that I'm a sexist though, because only sexists don't like this show. Sorry to inform you the sword and the pen reflections, but the fanatics have spoken, you're a sexist now. Also why are they even watching your channel if they're so sensitive about it? Just looking for reasons to be mad I guess.
@nonProfitJoeRo OK, I watched about 30 seconds of it while babysitting my really fussy infant niece and I couldn't see Billy Zait. And I was frustrated with the baby, so I closed it. But I am definitely checking it out. Looks like it's the book prologue. Which, in retrospect, they should have included somewhere in the show.
@@TheSwordAndThePenREFLECTIONS it too takes liberties with the source material and the acting is a bit questionable at times ... BUT it's pretty much just the prologue which I dig. Beginning the story at the beginning is a wild choice, but I respect it.
I think that was really well done and a good way of showing how things can be improved by a good editor. Keep evangelizing and maybe TV won't have to stay so bad.
This was cheese but good. Now we have two fun fan films that capture the spirit of the books better than the show did. The first is Flight from Shadow. I think you will enjoy it. So people probably wont get it on their first read through, but the reason for Nynaeve tracking them in the book is stressed at all and not her just going Baerlon is obviously were you would head next, is because it is Nynaeve starting to like Lan. He gave her a complement and genuinely respected her skill. No backhanded complements. No Begrudging respect. No 'this is what Wisdoms are supposed to do' comments. Just respect. The last time she got that might have been when her teacher was still alive.
👏👏👏 ❤❤️❤️better than what we got! I’d rather watch you do this than watch that horribly written show! It’s recognizable as the Wheel of Time and the show is not. Watching that, I felt like I was watching Lan & Nynaeve which is not what I felt watching that big budget trash show. I loved this but it made me angry lol. Angry because this show could’ve been so so so much better with someone like you on board! We’ve all waited so long for this and this is what we got!!!! Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤬🤬🤬
You should regret nothing. If anything, I would imagine this would bring in more viewers to your channel. That said, I did take a couple of notes. Notably, in scene 2, having grown up on a farm, the first thing I noticed was your nephew wearing rubber boots. I'm sorry, that just made me laugh. Then, in scene 3, your nephew opening and closing his eye to indicate that Moiraine was in and out of consciousness, again had to laugh. Finally, the outro, seeing Shredder riding a rhino, after a brief moment of remembering James Avery aka Uncle Phil and the voice of Shredder from the old Ninja Turle cartoon, I again laughed.
This was pretty good. I don’t understand how multiple writers in a room couldn’t come up with something as good as this. The scenes make sense and tell a story. Nice work!👍🏻
This was awesome! So much better and great to watch. Don't regret anything! Thank you so much for this, it made my day brighter. And I think you dialogue is so much better. Especially for Lan, because 'your' Lan comes off way more like Lan from the books, who is scarce with words, answers and visible emotions and explains only the bare minimum. For practically a first draft, this is absolutely amazing
Please, the next time you play Nynaeve, and I hope it’s not a long time, do some braid tugs. Enjoyed this very much. I will be watching just to see the expressions you make when you reach the really bad episodes. My face would be doing a mouthful of spoiled milk and spitting it out look. It amazed me that these mistaken people imagined they could write better than the source material is. Just adapt the material please! For some reason I just can’t move past thinking they want to piss off the fans of the books. With the snowballing changes I wonder if we can recognize what this actually is about by season four.
The writers can't be consistent from one scene to the next... hell... from one line to the next. See the original Nynaeve and Lan ep 3 conversations for proof. If the writers can't be consistent from line to line, scene to scene, or episode to episode, what the heck makes anyone think they can be consistent from season to season? 🫥
Honesty the clip was entertaining and well writ, even the frames where they glance at each other convey a curiosity which is more than what the show did for a potential set up. The credits were hilarious too! Hope you keep enjoying the books!
Amber, I thoroughly enjoyed this, low budget aside. You actually read the story, understood what happened and tried to translate it for a viewing audience. I guess they took different rocket science err... I mean editing classes than you did.🙃
I subbed because of this! You did great, sincerely. I've read the books too many times to count, and I could easily see early Lan and Nynaeve dialogue and tension playing out this way. Very well done
One of the best things I've seen on youtube this week! I love it, it's great. And I'm not just saying that! Great work, especially the side by side. And your nephew was good too. Kudos all around. I'm so glad I found this channel. 😂😂😂😂
This was pretty fun and would have helped the show immensely to have this level of attention put on the writing. That said, I'm quite disappointed that you didn't include the hawk screech sound effect every time you showed up as Lan. Major missed opportunity 😉
Regret nothing! It was less cringe than it was "budget deficient." 😆Gotta love that hand-drawn facial hair! I like what you did with this scene much better than what the showrunners did with all their money and staff. The interactions between Nynaeve and Lan made sense and built proper tension while also allowing Nynaeve to show her skills as a Wisdom. There's one thing I still wonder about, though. How did you track me?!? 🤨
I really enjoyed your writing and acting. It's unique and a fun thing for viewers to watch. I appreciate you trying to fix some of the issues on the show. I wish you could have been in the room when some of these decisions were made.
Second only to the impossible to top Billy Zane in WoT depictions! Seriously, I never thought I would look at video Nynaeve as likeable and now I do so great work!
I particularly liked the performance of: Amber! All jokes aside, nicely done. And come to think of it, it made me realize that a fan acted version of the books might even be doable. Frakk CGI, I'd take paper cutouts as trollocs if they serve to tell the story. One criticism: in the lead up to the scene you described a conversation between Lan and Moraine, excluding Nynaeve from the pool of candidates. And while I agree with what you were trying there, it also goes against the mystery box idea of the show to have her available as a potential dragon. Stupid as I think this whole idea is.
Gaaaahhhhh! You're right! I forgot. This is why you should always edit before you film! But wait... didn't Moiraine conclude that Nynaeve was not among the dragon candidates? Or did she just assume that Nynaeve was dead? Either way, all it would have taken is another round of edits with people at least as smart and familiar with the script as the folks in these comments, and all that stuff could have been fixed.
Setting aside the adaptation of the books the show has quite an issue with its own cohesive storytelling. I like your portrayal of the scene much better! It has the spirit of the books in it so much more so. It is weird how the show wants book fans on board with it but then does things they are bound to know book fans won't like or find controversial. You are awesome no regrets : )
Amazing! Sure, a little cringe, a little campy... But absolutely amazing (maybe in part because of that)! I love how you don't take yourself too seriously while having fun making something better.
The sad thing is that the show just doesn't deserve this kind of effort to "improve" it. It's like an English professor deconstructing a Harry Potter/Draco slashfic. Some things aren't worth saving!
Scene 1: Let your Script Supervisor know that at 9:54 the blade is to the left, but in the next shot at 9:55 the blade is to the right (or it's still to the left, but because the perspective flipped, it should be to the right in the second shot). :D Scene 1: I liked that at 11:26 Nynaeve actually gave Lan something to do to help her help Moiraine. It your version shows that he: recognizes Nynaeve's skill as a healer (and or the positive things Moiraine has said about Nynaeve's potential); that he he willing to follow the orders of those who know better than himself; and maybe some other stuff that I wont mention because . Super small line that can really impact everything else further on. Scene 2: Great exchange of looks at 12:13-12:33. A lot was said (or potentially said) with nothing actually said. Particularly, this look showed Nynaeve to be jealous of Moiraine - that someone cared so much about her. The show tried pulling off some looks, in this scene, but they conveyed completely different feelings (like Lan being suspicious and or wary of Nynaeve). Also, they usually forced someone to awkwardly talk over the looks or right after like the show runners were uncomfortable with the silence (and it made the looks feel off). Scene 2: 12:45 I liked this question by Lan. It shows that he actually knows some stuff about the world (isn't some just brainless oaf) while not sounding accusatory. He does not try to stop Nynaeve (more trust) and is allowing her to show off her skill and knowledge. 13:17 Without a better way to put it, your rewrite doesn't make Nynaeve sound like a haughty bitch (being polite). Your version ties back into the scene 2 "look." Nynaeve is able to gather information about the Warder bond and Lan is given a chance to be strong. Nynaeve sees that Lan is unconcerned with whatever pain he might be experiencing (like a badass) and that he really is devoted to Moiraine. Him leaving mid procedure is yet another sign of his trust in Nynaeve (where the show has him leave after it is treated). All in all, your version was far superior. And, not to diminish your skills as a writer, you mostly just made the characters act like they should have if they were being written with any consistency. P.S. There wasn't a Script Supervisor in your credits so maybe that was the problem with the first comment. :D
Engagement. I don't really care enough about the show to really watch this but putting yourself out like this takes a lot of courage so I'm going to silent play it the background so you get a bunch of free views
I didn't expect the effort you put into it. Wow! You did a much better job than the people working on the show! I am looking forward to seeing more of your wheel of time content!

For the record, I'd much rather watch the Sword and the Pen Reflections turning of the Wheel of Time than whatever nonsense Amazon are going to squat out.😁
Lol. It would be so ridiculous. 🤣
@@TheSwordAndThePenREFLECTIONS Unfortunately, that means would you have to watch the show to make more content. I mean, if you can pick out how the changes are derailing the entire story after reading only one of the books... Love your insights and make me wish I could wipe my brain to read the books fresh all over again.
Good job. Its tough to rewrite discounted garbage like the show, but you definitely improved it. Although, i was looking for more show-accurate crocs.
Damn Amazon should fire everyone working on that show and just hire you. This is easily the best live action adaptation of wot I've ever seen ... after Winter Dragon of course.
Thanks! 😄
Now I'm gonna go look up winter dragon....... 😬
@@TheSwordAndThePenREFLECTIONS I hated it when I first saw it, and held a grudge against it because it only existed to retain the TV rights. In the wake of season one though it's aged really well. I dig it. Billy Zane is in it!
I'm thrilled to see that my previous comment was featured on r/WoTshow
As a rule that bunch is incapable of taking any criticism of their beloved dumpster fire.
Season 1 could be saved if we had more toads 🐸🐸🐸🐸It was a cool re-writing!
It felt weird to see Lan and Nynaeve interacting like two adults with consistent personalities...
This was pretty good. I don’t understand how multiple writers in a room couldn’t come up with something as good as this. The scenes make sense and tell a story. Nice work!👍🏻
Great job
It’s a shame what Amazon did to this series.
I wish they would have hired you as the show runner
I have a sneaking suspision that amateur fan film would be better than Amazon series. At least fans would care about source material.
My nickname for Lan of TV series was "Malkier is where my drink is".
And about the braids... haha! I had a hard enough time doing three braids tied together. I only know how to do the one curly-ish style. 🤫
I mean editing classes than you did.🙃
Your enthusiasm for literature and especially high-fantasy is awesome. It’s all good…
The Oscar goes to ……….
Just pick the category and it’s yours. Brilliant!
I subbed because of this! You did great, sincerely. I've read the books too many times to count, and I could easily see early Lan and Nynaeve dialogue and tension playing out this way. Very well done
I absolutely loved this:) the location was perfect and so was your facial hair 😊
That makeup artist was on point.
The CGI-capture of the frog ... awesome!! ;-). Big like from me, great job! And honestly 100x better than the cringy stuff Amazon did.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
You are welcome. 🌻
One of the best things I've seen on youtube this week! I love it, it's great.
And I'm not just saying that! Great work, especially the side by side. And your nephew was good too. Kudos all around. I'm so glad I found this channel.
😂😂😂😂
Yaya! Thank you 😊
I really really NEEEEED you to remake the whole series in your image Lolol. Just your backyard version is so much better than the show!!
The best part was the frog. Very realistic.
Oh, you missed a chance for some comedy gold. the unseen horse galloping should have been the coconuts from The Holy Grail.
It almost happened. My friend with a coconut bra couldn't find it. 😞
Awwwww! lol.@@TheSwordAndThePenREFLECTIONS
This was pretty fun and would have helped the show immensely to have this level of attention put on the writing.
That said, I'm quite disappointed that you didn't include the hawk screech sound effect every time you showed up as Lan. Major missed opportunity 😉
I didn’t sleep through your episode. Lol. Literally slept through the episode and didn’t look back.
This is pure gold, thank you. Brings back memories of youtube in its infancy
🤣 oh gosh! The good 'old days!
@@TheSwordAndThePenREFLECTIONS The eyebrows tie the whole scene together 🥸

That was great now you have to make more of them or I will unsubscribe.
Second only to the impossible to top Billy Zane in WoT depictions! Seriously, I never thought I would look at video Nynaeve as likeable and now I do so great work!
Much better than how it played out on the show.
I'm laughing 🤣 so hard 🤣. You know, maybe a reshoot might be in order, you had the right idea.
This was amazing. Very well done! I was hooked. Your Wheel of Time recaps are 100% spot on. Thank you!
It was lovely, well-intentioned and it did sound right and well thought-out, which cannot be said about the show. Thanks for that!
The live frog really put this over the top. Awesome 😆
This was great :) It made sense and the dialogue seemed true to the characters. They seemed like real people rather than caricatures.
Scene 1: Let your Script Supervisor know that at 9:54 the blade is to the left, but in the next shot at 9:55 the blade is to the right (or it's still to the left, but because the perspective flipped, it should be to the right in the second shot). :D
Scene 1: I liked that at 11:26 Nynaeve actually gave Lan something to do to help her help Moiraine.
🥹 this is so kind of you.
Thank you 😊 🌹
I can tell you know how valuable a full video view is.
That was flaming awesome! I wish they had hired you as a writer/editor for the show.
I didn't expect the effort you put into it. Wow!
You did a much better job than the people working on the show!
I am looking forward to seeing more of your wheel of time content!
Lol I loved it. Could you just redo the whole series?
Still better than Amazon's pos
This is, amazing lol
What a treat, thanks!
And strangely enough, Shredder riding along on an elephant is closer to the lore than, well, most of the changes the show made.
