Our group of 6 used your process on all 6 deer taken on our farm. There was a little bit of a learning curve, but we all recognized the advantages, especially not breaking through the pelvis or using a knife on the sternum. Definitely helped. Thanks for the education!

Thanks for sharing! I've always hung them up first, but I like this process better.
Also, I've been using several of your processing techniques, getting better each time. My kids, two teens and two adults, love deer meat! Back straps, burger, jerky, homemade sausage! They love it all! We've harvested three does so far, looking for more and maybe a decent buck moving through.
    Keep the videos coming!

Interesting and clean process. Thanks for sharing. Might try to incorporate some of those ideas when I process my next deer. There's always something to learn.

Now call it a hunch... But maybe... just MAYBE... He likes a sharp knife! Great video, thank you! I just did a big bull highland cow as my first animal with my friend. Size surely makes a huge difference, it wasn't nearly this easy haha, but this is very informative, thank you!

Today (November 17th) was the opener of the Illinois firearm season, I got a decent doe & used this method (including using my Felco loppers) & it worked pretty good - no mess, other than some hair that I rinsed out.

I appreciate your teaching Dr. Grant! I’ve harvested two doe my first season last year. I’m wondering how to use your gutting process with a buck when I get one. I don’t know how to navigate those “boy parts” and bladder, especially hanging upside down. Could you advise on that or do a buck gutting video to illustrate the difference from a doe?
Last year I had a doe with milk in the udders and due to lack of knowledge and experience, her milk busted and drained down. I guess you have to skin around that area somehow to avoid that?

Congratulations on providing healthy venison! In short, trim around them, leave intact, and let fall out with digestive tract!

That seems really excessive to cut that rib bone and sternum, but I guess if it makes it easier for some people do it I personally have never did that and I gut going from the back legs down… cutting the sternum out like that would help it all fall out faster and easier so I get it

I sell that brand lopper, they are the best. Pretty much indestructible unless someone tries to cut a steel post with it. All the parts are replaceable, so they last a lifetime, just replace blades when you wear thru the temper & can't sharpen them anymore.

@@poolgnome The one Grant is using is the Felco Model 22, which is the largest & highest priced (currently around $250 retail) but they are pretty popular in orchards. They came out with a more budget minded model last year, one the same size retails around $100 but the handles aren't as close together.
