To the 3 to 5 people who will get all prissy just from reading the title, try actually listening to the video before you get all upset. I guarantee I also enjoyed the Batman Arkham series more than Gotham Knights. These are just some things I really liked that I hope some more superhero games will do in the future.
I agree. And while I do think some of these games have more heart, it reminds me a little bit of the fun you can have with something like LEGO Star Wars or Lego Batman etc. I just think it's too bad that you pretty much have to have two TVs two copies of the game and two consoles in order to be able to play the multiplayer, because if I was a little kid playing this game I would be blown away, but as a little kid my family couldn't afford multiple copies of everything so I feel like there's a lot of younger people who are going to miss out on potentially a lot of fun with the multiplayer. I'm not sure how you do it, but I think that you could have done tethered split screen as well as the current online component. It would have been more development though, and I know that this game already had some troubles in development.
One thing I greatly enjoyed was this version of Harley Quinn. Not only did she seem totally capable of living on without being on the Jokers arm; hatching her own schemes and having her own plans, but she also had a fantastic costume, and having the woman behind FLCL's Haruko was a stroke of genius.
But the thing is, her original character wasn’t supposed to be able to live without Joker. She’s supposed to be completely reliant on Joker for her everything. So it works so much better with such an attached Harley to lose her Joker.
I am also one of these fanatics of cake. Whoever baked did a fantastic job. There were times I would literally stop playing the game and just stare at every angle. Damn
I do enjoy the characterization of the heroes in the game. I think Tim and Jason in particular had better characterization in Gotham Knights. In the Arkham games, Tim seemed like a composite of all the Robins and didn't act too differently from Dick. While Gotham Knights did lean to heavily into his nerdyness, I feel that version of the character is an improvement. Jason comes across as someone finding their equilibrium. Something that even the comics struggle with at times.
Marvel's Ultimate Alliance is one of my greatest gaming memories because of its LOCAL co-op. It was the only game that I could play with my brothers and dad. All 4 of us would pick a character and play after my dad cooked breakfast. I wish kids today could get this kind of experience. Nowadays you can't even play most games co-op unless it's a online co-op.
I've always loved the idea of GK and I think comparing the Arkham series to it is strange. the two are so different that it's like comparing apples to oranges. I had fun with both and that's all i care about
People compare all superhero games and what they like or don't like about them. At the end of the day they're both video games and some like Origins and GK are even from the same developer.
But again, it's hard to "not comparing" these games. It's just unfortunate that Gotham Knight will always live under the shadow of Arkham series. From the most basic fundamental game, the Arkham series are just way too superior. Whether you like the newer feature such as costum swapping, or the multiplayer mode from Gotham Knight, its up to you. It's just sad that it basic gameplay just not as great as Arkham series. Its like comparing a finest quality apple to regular orange. Sadly, I just didn't have time to eat both
I give GK kudos for giving us a (mostly) comic book accurate Dick Grayson. In most of the shows, cartoon series', games, they make him into a brooding emo. In the comics he is a dork. He is funny, friendly, and extroverted. Yes, he can be serious, he can be angry, and professional etc, but it's not the base line how he behaves in the comics.
I really hope Montreal continues this world in some form. It gets so much crap and I get why it does but I would love for them to continue and improve and get better, and it can get AMAZING if they make the correct changes in future games. Games like Callisto and Gotham Knights I don't want to just completely die, games like this have so much potential, so I hope they keep making games in this world.
I disagree that it's deserved. I personally think Origins was the best game in the series, it had the courage to delve into more intricate personal subplots, excellently introduced minor batman characters and explored them, actually used the REAL Bane character instead of a knock off hulk, and I personally think the style and gameplay loop was just far superior.
I do like that we got to play as the Bat Family and the game focused on them and gave us a new concept. However, the game just was not for me as I felt the story was not great, the bosses were a pain the butt and the open world was just not that fun. So I do think the Arkham games many things better.
I think for me one of the biggest negatives was villain motivation. Harley Quinn comes off as just crazy to be crazy, it feels like they wanted to copy the Dark Knight but didn't have any of the message or meaning behind it for that character. Mr Freeze while being menacing is not very deep and you pretty much have to read background information on this version of him to actually care why he's doing what he's doing. I also think they should have basically forced you to play as Red Hood during the boss fight with him because the whole moment of deciding whether or not you want to let him live or die doesn't really fit for Dick Grayson or Tim Drake at all. You can make an argument that Batgirl could have a thought like that given her more impulsive nature sometimes but it really only worked super well for Jason, but I was playing that as Tim the first time playing it and it just doesn't land because of it. I also think there's a lot of moments where the game tries to be deep with its writing but it's really not. There's things I like about the game for sure and I respect people who love the game too, but for me it's one of those things where I have a fun time with it as a distraction but I wouldn't be running to it to play it on its own merits in the future. Just as a little aside, I recently started playing through Assassin's Creed 4 again, no idea if you or anyone else here is a fan of that, but it's been a bit of a stark contrast playing those two games at the same time in terms of quality.
Thanks for the video, Jay. Been on the fence about getting Gotham Knights because I really want to give it a shot despite the criticism, so it's nice to see people talk about it in a positive way.
I enjoyed the customization of the characters but I just wish there was more. It felt a little too basic and I was hoping for a lot more but I still enjoyed it none the less
Seriously? There were 18 suits to choose from and 15 of those you could change the colour and the accessories. That's better than any of the Arkham games
@@King_Aegon True still wish you could have made a custom character and put any color on any part of the suit and mix and match the characters costumes
@@WyaSlay I just wish we could have changed the colour and accessories of the transmog suits, because some of those unchangeable colourways we're pretty nasty
I haven't played Gotham Knights yet, and I'll probably wait until it's on sale or on Gamepass or something. But I honestly would love more stuff like this, crazy worlds that you can just team up with friends and explore the world with. I know there's a mod, but I'd love an official multiplayer version of something like Just Cause, lots of hectic fun. I actually didn't know the customisation was like that, I thought it was a bit like the Arkham series where it's set suits. I didn't know you could mix and match. Also..... I've definitely seen the amount of "cake" in Gotham Knights. Someone was definitely hungry when making this game.
Personally I like Gotham knights more than asylum mainly because red hood is my favorite DC character and I can free roam Gotham city as red hood and I love that
Yeah I have a big soft spot for Red Hood same with Batgirl. I was always disappointed they didn't do more in the Arkham universe with those characters. I think they could have supported full-fledged games at least the size of something like Assassin's Creed freedom cry or infamous first light, you know these single player story driven games that still have a mostly open world but are bigger than the mainline entries of the series that they are from? I really think that Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and even Robin could have all supported that kind of thing. Instead some of them get a couple hours long dlc and the rest just get like a 20 minute one kind of bummed me out.
I really like GK's Gotham, particularly the district that's a neighborhood built in an old dock (I think it's the cauldron), with Paris island literally overlooking the district. It's just a fascinating bit of design to me, and one I think is really cool.
As someone who grew up with the Arkham games and has %100 completed all of them, some of them more than once, I still really enjoyed Gotham Knights. I think if Gotham Knights gets a sequel they should make the combat system more like the Arkham games, drop the gear system for a system which lets the player customize the suits with actual gameplay changes not just changing the status ailment you inflict, also keep it seperate from visual customization. And my biggest problem with Gotham Knights, the sequel should feel more hand crafted and less MMO like. More intricate interiors, more hand crafted predator sections and give all the characters their own path through the story. These characters are all very different and they should approach every situation differently, for example during the story you need to investigate something, Jason prefers going and interogating someone while Dick prefers sneaking into someones apartment and snooping around and then make the player choose what they want to do.
Respect for actually trying to be objective and finding thing you prefer from a game that obviously was a dissapointment to you. With a rumorred Arkham reboot, maybe they could take some of the good aspects of GK and combine it with what was already great in the Arkham series.
1. Paul Dini did not return to write for Arkham Knight. 2. They probably would have had the same amount of gadgets as Batman if they were in main game free roam; in any case, them playing like Batman is because it makes sense: Nightwing was trained by Batman, but uses his acrobatic background; Red Hood was trained by Batman, but eventually forwent nonlethal methods; Robin was trained by Batman, but uses a techno-bo-staff; Batgirl was trained by Batman, but also was much more a digital wizard (and in any case, it foreshadowed her being Oracle); Azrael has studied and exactly replicated Batman's methods to eventually replace him, as he temporarily does in the comics; Catwoman, Joker, and Harley are all reflections of Batman and so are played in similar manners to him. 3. I also like the customization in Gotham Knights.

Great video!! I totally agree about the customization and the costumes in general. I've finished my 2nd playthrough and totally enjoyed it. Also....... THE CAKE! 🤣🤣🤣😅
Gotham Knights had a lot of problems but I do think it's worthy to get a sequel so it can potentially fix those problems, instead of just having one not perfect game and that being the end of it like Marvel's Avengers.
I actually liked this game because they don’t make many Batman games where you can play as The Bat-Family. Like an example of a game where you can play as the Bat-Family through the whole game is “Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu”. When I play as Batgirl customize her to look like Cassandra Cain since they don’t have many video games where they show the Cassandra Cain Batgirl. I can only think of 2 games shes appeared in “Injustice 2: Mobile” and a cameo in “Batman: Dark Tomorrow”. I also think it would be cool to see Stephanie Brown make an appearance in a game as Spoiler, Robin or Batgirl.
I liked evil Harley Quinn instead deadpool with boobs I liked batfamily being center stage and no batman to hijack it like he usually does It's just fanficy though since the game kinda doesn't represent the characters right and relies on stuff fans made up like Nightwing being obsessed with his own looks, Tim being an awkawrd workaholic, and Barbara being like a upbeat party girl. Jason was the only one who was somewhat okay even with the magic stuff people don't know is a thing.
Personally I enjoyed this game more than arkham city and I think it is better. I liked the customisation as you mentioned and I liked the fact that the cases were lengthy and not really short. Though I wish if there were more villains
4:20 I see your point, but the challenge comes from having limited gadgets. I know it's a cheap excuse but that's really the point of them. I enjoy them that way and I have a lot of fun. City still has my favorite Robin.
That denial at the beginnings is, as the tropers might say, suspiciously specific. Blink the video twice if you're in danger and need a hero to rescue you.
I will say the customization and suits in this game are the only one I do like unfortunately the rest I feel was very average and miss opportunity that they should have done better with the game that just my thought
I 100% agree about the BatFamily aspect. I hated how in Arkham Knight Bruce just kidn of regulated everyone to almost nothing while at the same time giving us the most playable batfamily members.
About your Jason Todd discussion, I'd say you're half right. It could've used more effort but even back in Asylum he's referenced by the Joker saying "I might even let you keep Harley you could use a new sidekick"... maybe it wasn't intentional but still kinda seems like foreshadowing.
haven't watched much of the vid yet but im glad it exists, i bought the game yesterday and im having a blast, its not arkham but its not supposed, people comparing it to avengers seems crazy because this one actually has PASSION, im not saying its perfect by any chance but its definitely fun
This game is obviously not anything compared to the arkham games. but i could definitely come up with 5-10 things that are good about this game. while i have a lot of grievances, A LOT, i still enjoy this game and have some positives and it’s definitely not as bad as ppl cut it out to be.
Batman impostors for the xbox 360 and PS3 was a pretty cool and unique take on a batman multiplayer game that stands on its own and it's kinda the only game that checks that box that I know of
Him, fair and valid points and opinions, it’s good that you had things that you did enjoy about the Game and I can understand and almost agree with them. Now, I do wonder though, what you disliked about the Game? I have heard that it didn’t so well, but I don’t know the specifics, so if you could cover that, I would appreciate it.
I think with Arkham there was Origins multiplayer yes, but there was also Batman: Arkham Underworld, a PvP strategy mobile game where player assumes the role of a criminal Kingpin, and can obtain super villains like the Riddler, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Mr, Freeze and Bane (while going against other players and Batman) Don't play much mobile games but it's one of those that I really enjoyed. Game no longer exists, but looking back, makes me wish had made a AAA version of it.
If it wasn't full price. Ya know? Like...$40. I would pay $40 for this. But then, I'm generally on the fence with any game that comes out full price any more. $60 or even $70 is just too much to justify. Not when there are so many fantastic indie games that are on offer for 20/30/40. If it goes on sale again and I'm in a position to afford it, I might pick it up. I am a fan of Batgirl and getting to play as her is a major plus.

I liked batfamily being center stage and no batman to hijack it like he usually does
It's just fanficy though since the game kinda doesn't represent the characters right and relies on stuff fans made up like Nightwing being obsessed with his own looks, Tim being an awkawrd workaholic, and Barbara being like a upbeat party girl.
Wow that’s one of the takes I’ve ever heard
Ay thumbnail 👀
4:20 I see your point, but the challenge comes from having limited gadgets. I know it's a cheap excuse but that's really the point of them. I enjoy them that way and I have a lot of fun. City still has my favorite Robin.
The reason for Batgirl's cake is actually very gender equal. Obviously Nightwing's ass is so amazing we need female representation
Thanks for a 'Balanced Review' & also like me, Thanks for Crushing on Batgirl!! So cool, you & your Wife play in Co Op Mode!
That denial at the beginnings is, as the tropers might say, suspiciously specific. Blink the video twice if you're in danger and need a hero to rescue you.
Thumbnail plus title = Perfect Bait.
I will say the customization and suits in this game are the only one I do like unfortunately the rest I feel was very average and miss opportunity that they should have done better with the game that just my thought
best thumbnail of 2023
Now that thumbnail is something I can get behind
I was intrigued as soon as I saw the thumbnail
I 100% agree about the BatFamily aspect. I hated how in Arkham Knight Bruce just kidn of regulated everyone to almost nothing while at the same time giving us the most playable batfamily members.
It's so weird but the cake thing makes me feel creeped on bc i main batgirl😂
not me lookin for comments about the thumbnail😭
They are all praising the greatness of the 🍑
About your Jason Todd discussion, I'd say you're half right. It could've used more effort but even back in Asylum he's referenced by the Joker saying "I might even let you keep Harley you could use a new sidekick"... maybe it wasn't intentional but still kinda seems like foreshadowing.
Jay You're not the only one who sees cake I saw some cake in Batgirl I saw it and it makes me feel luckier that I pick her.
Harley Quinn in Gotham knight was cool
haven't watched much of the vid yet but im glad it exists, i bought the game yesterday and im having a blast, its not arkham but its not supposed, people comparing it to avengers seems crazy because this one actually has PASSION, im not saying its perfect by any chance but its definitely fun
Gotham knights and passion should never go together 🤣🤣
Jay your cool
This game is obviously not anything compared to the arkham games. but i could definitely come up with 5-10 things that are good about this game. while i have a lot of grievances, A LOT, i still enjoy this game and have some positives and it’s definitely not as bad as ppl cut it out to be.
I agree with a lot of this and I really like this game but I want to say I love your content have a great day
Hey thank you I really appreciate that very much I hope you have a great day!
Thanks
you could've said That Gotham Knights runs in 4k with good settings on xb and ps
And Arkham games runs in low resolution with very low settings
(sees thumbnail)
*Bites lip
They need to add an arkham knight skin for red hood. And they need to MAKE IT LOOK LIKE THE ONE FROM ARKHAM KNIGHT. It wouldn't kill to add it
I HATE the way Jason Todd looks and act (not necessarily red hood how ever red hood in Arkham knight is my absolute favorite)
Why is the thumb nail of the video a caked up Batgirl?
It's a positive from Gotham Knights. We get to look at that all game long my dude.
@@teezoowazoo7272 they took it away when they lengthened her cape
The only good thing about the game.
@@POTTERANDMATRIXFAN I liked the costume customization and the fact that the batfamily was a focus. Just wish it was in a better game.
Batman impostors for the xbox 360 and PS3 was a pretty cool and unique take on a batman multiplayer game that stands on its own and it's kinda the only game that checks that box that I know of
This man knows what he’s doin
Him, fair and valid points and opinions, it’s good that you had things that you did enjoy about the Game and I can understand and almost agree with them.
Now, I do wonder though, what you disliked about the Game?
I have heard that it didn’t so well, but I don’t know the specifics, so if you could cover that, I would appreciate it.
I think with Arkham there was Origins multiplayer yes, but there was also Batman: Arkham Underworld, a PvP strategy mobile game where player assumes the role of a criminal Kingpin, and can obtain super villains like the Riddler, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Mr, Freeze and Bane (while going against other players and Batman)
Don't play much mobile games but it's one of those that I really enjoyed.
Game no longer exists, but looking back, makes me wish had made a AAA version of it.
Batman: I get all the spot light or I hit that one👉
Robin in the corner: 👀
I just wish it was not grindy, more mechanics and animations for traversals and actions, 60FPS!!!!😤😤😤 on console!!!
$21 in ps store right now for the weekend. I'm really debating hard on getting it...
@@Savage_7_99 That's a good price! I'd pick it up for that much. Definitely tempting.
Here for dat thumbnail
I wish we couldn't see the costumes so easily and they had heen silhouetted until their unlock
At least we can play as Bat girl, thats a plus on this game xD
Also i always do photo mode in Cyberpunk with that angle for female V
