Sound is half the picture! Use these tips, they will really help!
This is the single most helpful tutorial for audio I've come across in months. Thank you!!
No one delivers essential info with more clarity and fun than you. And sound is a topic that I can never, um, hear enough about. Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
That little scream made me laugh out loud…and have flashbacks to being yelled at as a kid. 😂😂
Wow, Kelsey! Thanks to your tips, my audio is so clear that I might finally hear my cat judging me in the background. Also, I didn't know I needed a mic as close as Billy Eilish until now-it's time to whisper my way to podcast stardom!
Pre-selection always beats post production.
First tip we gave voice actors/guests is: smile while creating an audio. It really doesn't work well with the podcasts of today. Too many "Joker faces".
The second one was speak with your diaphragm.
The third one was not going drunk to a gig, but we never really managed to enforce that one.
Back to the topic of the video: all of the settings that you mentioned, they really need to be exported into an external file. (See advice #3 above for more details)
That technique of EQing and bringing down specific frequencies in the music (so they don’t compete with dialogue) is called Notch EQing. A great technique and one that I don’t see used often enough. Combined with ducking, it will help ensure dialogue is the most prominent thing in the mix. Nice video with some great tips.
Thank you as always. I'm about to cut footage I shot 20 years ago on my XL1 in SD that I managed to record on a Sennheiser shotgun with a friend on boom so I'm looking forward to using all sorts of techniques you talk about to enhance the sound and video. I appreciate how you used a soft fuzzy ((sound)) for the video sync loss glitches so that they weren't jarring!
Perfecto!!! This is just what I needed!
Great final fade to black! (and great tut too!)
I like to add subtle reduction in the in 90 to 150 Hz range (good for my voice) on the background music so it doesn't crowd my voice even when ducking 😊
Added this 30 seconds too early 🤣
Lol, Ya for background music with high hats and brass its good to do a slight reduction, i try to avoid music with those!
Thank you, this was a great lesson👍
Great video, Thanks!
Thank you so much Kelsey! This helped me tremendously. Stay safe, have fun!🤗👍
Always!
Very well done, as usual, and very interesting. Thank you so much for the time and energy you put into these videos and for sharing your knowledge. 😀
Thank you Kelsey! This helped tremendously.
I'm so glad!
This is fantastic! Thank you for all the helpful tips.
🎉
Thank you so much for the helpful info!!
Thanks Chels!
Surprised you didn't include adding "mastering" and from within that "subtle clarity." Learned this from you in a previous video and it is remarkable how just doing that adds sparkle to audio. Terriffic video as always.
You can add that too, but we don't use that currently bc the Rode mic is so great already :-) Hard limiter is it :)
Shift D - thank you so much for that time saver!
You're welcome!
Thanks
informative topic
indeed!
Did I just hear that Premiere Gal outsources her editing to Tailand? I always imagined you grinding away at Premiere all day. 😄 Goes to show that anyone can benefit from outsourcing this step in the creation process since it takes so long.
Haha one of my editors is in Thailand, but I also have 1 in LA and in Kansas City. We are all over!
@@PremiereGal Awesome!
For balancing audio ducking is a better option and less time consuming
We cover ducking in this video.
I’m just half way through, but this is already very helpful!
Thanks for the great content. I found you after watching Meredith Marsh's channel who recommended your Premiere Gal effects and animated titling plug-in to Premiere. Currently binge-watching your content of info. Great tutorials! How would you compare using a Shure MV7 vs using the Rode NT-USB mini? Are both good, or is one better?
Great video Gal. You are the best.
I follow you diligently. If you have half million subscribers, there must be a reason...
We will be celebrating 8 years on youtube in July! 🎉
Video Content on one side, and other side Gal's actions and expressions....
For the removing high frequency part. Deesser works better. Try it. It only push it down if it exceeds certain threshold and its actively doing it instead of everytime.
It's like sidechain hack
Interesting! We will have to try that out.
for sure finzar made that thumbnail!❤
Haha the fin is waaay too busy. But I'm sure he will be flattered 😊
Nice tutorial.. please how do I achieve your kinda subtitling
I think you should improve your thumbnail more cinematic! 💝
Is there an average dbfs level you recommend for the final mix output level? In the past I’ve heard -14 dbfs. Curious how you all approach the master level.
between -6 to -12db -- most importantly it shouldnt clip 😊
Sometimes, even after using the Essential Sound panel to balanced low tone or high tone voice, the audio is sometimes still over modulating. Also, turning on and using the Level slider is often hit and miss, especially when dialogue is longer and monitoring every syllable for proper level is difficult. What do you think about using the Audio Track Mixer to add a Hard Limiter filter (under Amplitude and Compression) at say max volume -3db on the voice track, or even on the full mix output to prevent over modulation spikes?
We do use a Hard Limiter as we mentioned in this video :)
@@PremiereGal Sorry, missed that one
It was near the end of the video
@@ReidVV It's used on the Mastering part, hence why we apply it at the end.
Any reason why you left the Comica Vimo C1 mini?
The Lark2 is smaller and I just like the design of it more and the magnetic clip. It does have a slightly better sound too.
Does the audio auto synchronise to video method work in Adobe Premiere 2021?
It should! (as I remember 😅)
What is the lens on your camera?
35mm RF lens
Why am I not able to download enhanced speech?
A bit of a silly question maybe but when I have several effects in the track mixer how do I turn them all off at once to hear a before and after? So not one effect, but all of them together. Couldn't find out how to do it. :)
That's a good question!! I havent tried that out yet, but definitely something to investigate.
@@PremiereGal Yeah if you find out please let me know. 😊
Whenever I use the enhance feature it crashes my computer
Is there a way to get a nasal voice to sound deeper for a podcast recording?
Oh man, that is not really something I have tried to do, but there are som AI apps that can change voices. But my recommendation would be to not alter a voice too much that it is not authentic.
For all the additions, enhancements and features… how come no NLE has figured out a way to automatically avoid/remove click-pops in dialogue editing? This has plagued editors since the earliest talkies. Why not even a 3rd party audio plugin? Hello?
Anyway…
Thx PG
I think this is where most people will right click and edit audio in Audition which has a built in click and pop remover...but I agree they should also add it to Pr's essential sound panel already! 😅
you smartly ask 3 times to subscribe
😂
Taco bell is searching you
yo quiero taco bell 😋
no need spend 16min, this video enough to 5 to 7min matter... now a days howmuch sharp u create is important and then we get time saving.
We explain the WHY on this channel which takes longer bc it's thorough and correct. We also kindly add time-coded chapters if you want to review a certain section.
