1:06 the face of a man who realizes he hired the right person for the job. Morricone is a true genius
I believe Tarantino said that The good the Bad and the ugly was one of his top 5 favorite movies. So its kinda the same situation with J.J. Abrams with Star wars. Its way more that a genius that got hired. you can see that Tarantino has true respect to this man.
Aldo El Apache True. Morricone is a real legend, no doubt about it. He's also Italian, like me, so he made me and all our nation proud when he won that Oscar
+Alvise Narduzzi Indeed he did!
That's the face of a cinephile who realizes he hired his idol for the movie. Morricone is DEFINITELY a true genius!
perfect observation!!!
the moment i heard the soundtrack in the beginning, i knew this movie was gunna fuck my shit up
exactly
while watching it I think I tear a bit. that much emotion.
but i get very angry when tarantino used pop like music

It's s great jag! Great performances by all. I'm glad Ennio raised the stakes with his masterful music.

The ironic is that Tarantino and Sergio are the exact opposite of each other

You were right!!! Grande morricone won the Oscar

The opening credits to Hateful Eight was the most memorable part of the movie for me. The combination of the ominous music and the camera panning out on the old wooden, half-snow covered crucifix was just burned into my mind.
I totally agree with you. L'Ultima Diligenza di Red Rock is a masterpiece. Morricone could reproduce Each atmosphere of a 3 hour movie in only 7 minutes. This man was a genius
If he’d just kept some of his stupid Tarantino-isms out of that movie, like when he narrates a segment in the middle, it would have been his best movie imo, and yes those early scenes with this music was the best part

Ma
Morricone deserved way more Oscars for way different soundtracks.
+lupash Agree, I think he got it just because he made such score for Tarantino.
+echo123france agreed as well this OST is far from his best work. His spaghetti westerns, The Mission, Malena among many others. Even the Thing
I still can't believe he didn't win for The Mission
He deserved an Oscar for Days of Heaven.
PapiDarko wasn't even nominated for The Good The Bad and The Ugly
i can't believe that ennio morricone never won an Oscar before!
he's a living legend and one of the best composers of all time.
He had already won an Oscar, but not for a film, for the career
He actually won 2 oscars
Aksel Newt I feel like that award is the academy showing respect to people who should've won oscars in the past but didn't for whatever reason. Just like they gave one to Eli Wallach
He probably scared the hell out of Hollywood.
don't need oscar 2 b a genius...

I'm glad that Tarantino is the kind of director that almost showcases the soundtrack, rather than use as background noise. I mean, I feel like half the charm of his films is the music.
A true storyteller uses the music.
@@tonyng7234 hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I mean there's a soundtrack and there's a score. They are very different. Under The Silver Lake is a good example of the way they are used and even noticed without having been pointed out.

Imagine being Tarantino...you are a famous director, but sometimes they has criticized you, and you didn't win so many oscars. But in this moment the man who is working for you is Morricone, the most famous cinema's composer of all time..and you don't care about all the people who say that your movies are violent or other no sense things. You feel like your life got a sense, you are doing what you like and working with the composer of your favourite movies. I cannot imagine how beatiful this feeling could be
Kind of a weird comment seeing as Ennio himself said Tarantino was talentless and his movies were shit

+Christopher Ochoa I love both Tarantino and Morricone. Tarantino's directing and writing is great and then Morricone's music adds a whole other extradordinary level to the movie.
It makes me anxious to think of myself in drummers position and keeping the rhythm on cymbals for so long!
He isn't really 100% on point through the whole track and that doesn't matter. Even feels more real because it wasn't played by a robot
clsman89 Whiplash 😳😳
The bolero by ravel is much more difficult for the drummer
clsman89
That's what gets you to the top!
In the original version from the movie, it's even harder because the drummer doesn't only keep the time but also add accent at certain points by opening the hi-hat and using triplets. It's pretty great but you gotta pay to attention to it to realise it.

what a soundtrack deserved oscar to one of my favorite composers Ennio Morricone

Tarantino was very lucky to get Morricone working for his film. This is serious symphonic music.
Took me a full 30s to realize I was holding my breath while listening to this. Powerful stuff !
Just imagine being one of the musicians and singers. Just imagine being able to say: “Yes, I played/sang for Ennio Morricone once.”
Goodbye, maestro.
Morricone's music can work without a movie. You hear the beautiful melodies, harmonies, sounds, instrumentation, orchestration he puts together and you visualise instantly the scenes of what could be happening in the actual movie. And once you have finished listening to his composition the melodies stay with you and you don't forget them.
That's how good he is!
This particular piece is a marvelous example of how to make a lot out of a little. It's all built outward from just four notes - a spare little motif, barely a melody, only four or five bars long. It never moves to anything else, yet it's never boring. There's just enough variety, just enough changes in the orchestration and the harmony over those same four notes to keep it interesting. And it's classic Morricone - I can't put into words how or why, but every note is his, and no one else could have written it.
WoW I always wanted express myself in that same vain but was never able to!! LOL! You said that perfectly!! Cheers!!!
Was thinking the same while reading xD
Each composer leaves a bit of himself in the music. Some of them even have 'tells' the way a poker player does: little things they do, the style they have, to show that it's their music. AR Rahman also has that kind of distinct style in his orchestral pieces.
Four notes is all it takes to build a masterpiece. See also Beethoven's 5th....
Rest In Peace Mr. Morricone! You've changed cinema like no other in the last 70 years. Hans Zimmer and the other musicians scoring film wouldn't be there if weren't because of you.
If this incredible piece of music doesn’t make all the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and give you the tingle factor with a side serving of goosebumps then you are dead inside. RIP Maestro. His soundtrack made this film.

The melody is in groups of 8 notes and uses the Octatonic scale. Conceptual genius!
I saw Tornatore's documentary about Morricone just the other day. Morricone said in it that he early in his career developed the idea to use 12 tone concepts for tonal music. Is that perhaps what he does with the eight tones in this piece?

Morricone made a great job for this movie, but it's not the kind of movie you can mark in your memory with a soundtrack. The westerns and Once upon a time in America are those kind of movies. I believe the final scene in Nuovo Cinema Paradiso will always be the best ending, the best soundtrack, the best piece of Cinema you can dream of. Watched it a hundred times and cried a hundred times. :""")
Grande Ennio Morricone...un uomo modesto, grande compositore, qualcuno che nasce in mille anni, orgoglio d'Italia....Serbi e Serbia ti adorano...grande uomo saluto da Belgrado!
John Williams has made some really important movie score pieces. But for pieces that I truly like as music, this one from Morricone beats all of them. That bassoon line is so powerful.
My favorite score composer. I would even say the best. Morricone beats even Bernard Herrmann, for his astonishing authenticity.
Probably my favorite opening score of all time. Phenomenal 🙌🏼
It was so wild to hear a legit Hollywood style full orchestra for a Tarintino film. And an original score at that!
Have you ever listened to his "Malèna"'s soundtrack? Absolutely astonishing.

It's amazing how well this music fits the movie, or maybe the other way around? It's tense, nervous, and terrifying at the same time, like something could happen at any moment, and it's a constant crescendo through the whole piece, only growing in size. The more that is revealed, the more chaotic it becomes. I love how the melody always kind of stops just short of the final note, as if it keeps you on edge and guessing, just like the characters in the film.
