  • We are overlanding Africa in our Defender 110 camper. In our last video, you will have seen us enter Lesotho and explore some of this spectacular country. We have been blown away by the beauty of Lesotho and the people.
    In today's video, we bring you along on our final day in Lesotho before we enter back into South Africa. We unexpectedly end up at the workshop in need of some repairs.
    Everyday is an adventure in our house on wheels.

    Great videos guys. I am sure that you getting more than enough advice from all comers, but as a Brit who has spent more than half of his 63 years in South Africa, I just want to say one thing; never, ever, trust that a puddle actually has a bit of road surface underneath it. That goes for tar or dirt roads. I was involved in mining and travelled extensively in sub Saharan Africa and am speaking from very expensive experience. I was once coming back from Steelpoort, (at night, which was mistake number one), and ended up in a pothole that accommodated my entire car. In some areas, we should have signs saying, 'Beware! Tarred road surface ahead!' or something along those lines.Take it slowly when the road surface isn't visible due to standing water. Looking forward to following your journey; I hope you are going to Namibia; it is quite spectacular. Safe travels.

    Am American and am fascinated by the prowess and robust performance of the Land Rover Defender particularly in such remote parts.
    The LR DEFENDER are a rare. The Luxurious Couzins RR and Discovery are very common albeit plagued with Expensive reliability issues. TOYOTA 4RUNNER and LANDCRUISER and JEEP WRANGLER are a favorite amongst Off Roaders and Overlanders.
    Additionally, as an African American I don't recall seeing the Prestine, Picturesque side of Africa in the News. We mainly see the Cities/Countries that are devastated by War, Femine, Earthquakes, Civil Unrest, Election Chaos, Diseases and Crime ridden areas.
    Thanks for providing us with an eye opening excursion through your defender.
    God Bless.

      Thank you Malik!! The beauty of an old defender like ours it’s it’s still relatively simple mechanics with little electronics so even in the most remote parts it can still be fixed.

    I am sorry to put a bit of a damp squib on this but really a bit of research into what goes in your videos would not go amiss... Maseru is the capital of Lesotho and it is not pronounced as Missouri (which is a state in the USA) and the if the donkey was "lost" then the Alpaca's are from another planet! Indigenous wildlife they most certainly are not....
    If you are going really make a thing of this kind of travel and post on CZcams then credibility is definitely a thing and getting pronounciations correct (for those of us who know) and being able to distinguish between wildlife and imported livestock is also important. Reseach counts!

    • @TheLandyExpedition
      @TheLandyExpedition  Před rokem +4

      Hey Tony, thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment. We really appreciate it.
      We try our best to correctly pronounce the towns/cities/countries/areas we visit throughout our travels and of course apologise if our pronunciation wasn’t quite right. May be a difference in accent. We will try to do better.
      We too were surprised to see Alpacas on a game reserve in South Africa, we did wonder how/why they were there?
      The reason for our comment on the ‘lost’ donkey was due to there only being 1 there. A lighthearted joke from us which we’ll be more mindful of in our future videos.
      Again, let me say thank you for taking the time to watch our video and for leaving us a comment.

      @tonyjay6457 Před rokem +1

      @@TheLandyExpedition Just to be clear, I do not want to be mischaracterized here. The problem was not the joke about the donkey but the glaring mistake of including the Alpaca's as part of the list of all the "wildlife" you saw. And that is why I sadi to you that if the donkey was lost then the Alpacas must have come from outer space - yes I understand humour too! Furthermore, I went to the trouble of saying what I said, not to drag you down, but to help you live and learn... If you want to establish an 4X4 travel channel on CZcams then you will be in competition with a lot of people who really know what they are doing (as far as being plausible goes). No, it is not about knowing everything, but it is about properly researching things like how to pronounce place names, and making sure that later narration added in post-production is accurate and informative as opposed to being vague or plain wrong! Currently, my impression is that you are just breezing around Southern Africa without really coming to grips with the place in any way. And yes, I realize the tyranny with time - and that's why prior preparation and research is so important... Of course, if you have no ambitions here then feel free to ignore me or downplay the points I am making...
