  • Historic hot rods are still out there, waiting to be found! This example is an outstanding 1932 Ford five window coupe, built by Jim Smart in the 1950's. He sold it to Jack Cowan, and then the car sat inside a garage in Niceville, Florida until 2020. Follow along to see a brief overview of this car's history, and stay tuned for a full feature when Josh completes the restoration and preservation of this car. We're referring to it as the Air Force '32, due to Jim's history with the US Air Force, which led him to find the car just outside the Elgin Air Force base during the 1950's.
    So much great history with family tie-ins...you'll want to watch that one! For now, we're covering the rescue efforts, then the cleaned-up survivor when Sonny Smart had it at the NSRA Street Rod Nationals South, then the preservation efforts of Josh Scronce and Donnie Smart. This is an incredible piece of hot rodding history, and Josh is truly doing it justice by putting it back on the road with period correct parts. In part 2 of Air Force '32 video (the full feature) we'll get to listen to that 265ci small block Chevy run and hopefully take a ride down the road in this rolling display of hot rod history.
    Also in this video, we do a quick walk around of Josh's shop, which has tons of great hot rod parts and memorabilia hanging on the walls, including a hand painted sign that reads Hudson Drag Strip and much more.

    A very cool car and a great history! 🇺🇸 I noticed the torque tube drive, I hope he keeps that. I think it's important to preserve the history as much as possible. It's easy to go to digital dashes and seats from a Silverado, but I do love old school hot rods just as they were. 👍

    That has lots of period goodies on it and someone obviously spent a lot of time reading Hot Rod ,R&C etc in the 50's. I'm a bit of a fan of the little 265 ,which may sound like a small engine compared with todays monsters but they rev easily which is more desirable in a road car,especially when they only have to propel a light weight Deuce .

    • @jamesblair9614
      @jamesblair9614 Před 2 lety

      Agreed, with that old 39 transmission backing up the 265, the last thing you need is one of the torque monsters everyone seems to want these days.

    those keystones look to be the early version so they easily could have been added in the '60s rather than the '70s. kustomags came out the same year as the crager s/s wheels; 1965.

    there is one here in san antonio that was an original from the late 50s, it was damaged at a barretts auction years ago and is now apart going back to its original state, it has a early olds v8. if you have any idea of the magazines the car appeared in i can look through my collection for pictures and articles. some go back to the late 40s and the Hot Rods start in dec 55, that issue had a purple full fendered 32 on the cover. you can find me on facebook but sr has to be after my name.
