You know, Duchovny came up with that "love but not sexual" thing years before when he was in Henry Jaglom's improvised movie, _New Year's Day._ There was a scene where he was at a party talking with another guy about friendship, and he talked about how he would show affection to a women with a kiss or some sexual move, but with a guy he'd do it with a book or sports tickets or a pat on the back. :)

He graduated from Princeton where he was playing basketball and then he got a PhD at Yale. He was studying literature and poetry, he already wanted to be a writer back then and literature is also why he started studying acting. 6 years after Yale he got The X-Files.
