The seal comes off the other end of the little linkage (opposite to plastic bush)
Some play is also exaggerated within the 12mm shaft (hole end of the linkage)
Mine has just 0.06mm of slack at the joint but this translates to alot of play at the gearstick (left and right movement when in gear)

Great vid, very informative & comical in places. I notice on my Renault Scenic mk1 2002 that the large spring that you can see in this whole gear linkage set up, clearly visible at 5:10, that has partly sheared off, so it no longer doing it's job. Any chance you possibly know the part description or even the spare part number, so I can source one here in the UK. Also, my scenic has never had one of those large plastic dust covers that cover the whole gear linkage set up. Love finding these style vids when I have to tackle stuff on my Renault. Would be whole lot of frustrated hair pulling out work without them lol. Many thanks in advance

First of all thanks for watching. Its a gear selector spring, I think this is a dealer only part. unfortunately I cant find the part number. But just call the dealer and they probably have them is stock. Sorry that I cant help you any better.

    • @TheDutchGarage

I dont think this is a reason for gear grinding. Gear grinding most of the time is wear or a bad clutch, master or slave clutch cylinders.
