These guys are amazing musicians ... their music is tight ... I grew up in the north of England in the 80's ... Ska and Two-Tone was like breathing oxygen .. just couldn't have lived without it ...
What I have always Loved about Madness besides their Awesome Music is their Sense of Humor. They always look like they're having so much fun and they don't take things to seriously. Which in life is a good thing keeps it less stressfull.
Seven million views and this song came out 40 years ago...and it wasn't even a big hit for them like Our House. And after listening to it for four decades, never get tired of it.
Who doesn't wish this wasn't 10 minutes longer?! I remember seeing this on MTV when it was in it's infantry and hardly heard it afterwards. Bloody shame! Love these lads!
The greatest ska song of all time! You just want to blast the ever living hell out of it. It's beyond amazing! I don't know how anyone can not like this song.
Suggs is such a cute bastard! I've always loved this band. So many bands take themselves so seriously when they should be having fun . Madness were /are terrific! 💖
My dad used to have the music video tape to One Step Beyond and as a kid I always just sat and watched it. I guessed I thought it was some sort of weird kids show, but this 'bit' was always my favourite! Thanks Dad!
Grew up listening to the Beatles. Living in Merseyside, they were everywhere, ubiquitous. But the first music I fell in love with, that I enjoyed with a passion, was UK 2-tone Ska revival. Later went back and listened to all the original 60's Ska legends, but it was the uniquely British Ska Punk sound was my first musical love
It's just gone noon Half past monsoon On the banks of the river Nile Here comes the boat Only half-afloat Oarsman grins a toothless smile Only just one more To this desolate shore Last boat along the river Nile Doesn't seem to care No more wind in his hair As he reaches his last half mile The oar snaps in his hand Before he reaches dry land But the sound doesn't deafen his smile Just pokes at wet sand With an oar in his hand Floats off down the river Nile Floats off down the river Nile
The best part about real English music is their accents... I'm so in love with British accents on a song, they have such s unique sound. like the specials, madness etc etc :) greets from The Netherlands
Cockney, there isn't a British accent. Scottish sound different to Irish, who sound different to Wales and numerous parts of England (Scouse, mancunian, Geordie and many more)
Think they just mean in general, which still doesn't mean much. Europe is known for having the greatest amount of ethnic diversity in the world in such a relatively small region, and Britain is the biggest example of that. For such a tiny nation to have such a range of accents isn't to be found anywhere else in the world.
I wonder why you would like it, its uncomprehensible for people who are not good at english, they're the same like Flanders if you're really a Dutch, you can't understand stuffs they say I preffer American accent for singing, but nonethtless i still love Madness and this song
whoa,,,, all I can say is,, The Beat. ,Madness, selector, etc what a great time to be young. no Downloading, go and buy a 45 at your local record shop, I know I'm showing my age, but hey music is a part of life.;-)
@Duc de Richleau Sorry but I do not miss the days of being ripped off by record stores you guys are just overtaken by nostalg it's much better these days. Instant access to any kind of music, no matter how obscure it is. Even the best stores in the past couldn't come close to matching that.
These guys really did nail it. They could muck about, make great music and have respect from the general public and the music industry while having career longevity. Plus their greatest trick was that when anyone mentions Madness, it's always with fondness. Thanks for posting the video.
They were fantastic times, I bet he had a great life back then, just as I did. I want to tell you, I like many types of music, but Ska is at the top of the lot. Good luck to you and thumbs up to your Dad. Keep dancing.
Absolutely LOVE this tune!! Memorys from my teens..lol..when they sang it live at THE TOON ARENA..I weent TOTALLY MAD!! God it always makes me smile this vid..!! Wud luv to see Madness again..need lots os pennies though.com!!

so cool of you all to represent your areas and to enjoy the same music and humour as each other around the world. colombia,new,york,italy,australia,baltimore.. i love you all, thank you
Never took themselves too seriously, had so much energy, even now they still seem to enjoy what they do nearly 40 years on. Madness are the sane ones, brilliant!
This song is in one of the Just Dance games. The sad part was that I was the only one who genuinely enjoyed it because I'm batshit crazy about Ska . . . there wasn't a spread of skanking in the video that the game had in the background xP.
I just came across Madness doing Lovestruck on a video the other day. I thought they were new. My kids told me no Mom, remember OUR HOUSE, that was Madness. I didn't know they were called Madness. I like their videos. I have to say those Brits are pretty good.
Madness, they call it madness.!! Ansome mate. If ya down in the dumps, bung it on and wollop, happy again.!!! Goes well with fish and chips to.!! Baboom.
These guys are amazing musicians ... their music is tight ... I grew up in the north of England in the 80's ... Ska and Two-Tone was like breathing oxygen .. just couldn't have lived without it ...

BRILLIANT!!!
Takes me back to the 70's and 80's.
Loved Madness.. still do!
What I have always Loved about Madness besides their Awesome Music is their Sense of Humor. They always look like they're having so much fun and they don't take things to seriously. Which in life is a good thing keeps it less stressfull.

Huge Madness fan seen them live 4 times and this tune doesn't disappoint, AWESOME!!!!!
My favorite Madness song of all. It's impossible to sit still while listening especially 2 minutes in
You can`t beat this stuff..Terrific era for music especially Ska.
That's what is missing from music these days. The sheer joy. Everything is so processed and engineered. Have fun instead. It's infectious!
Qué musica Dios mío
Qué chulada de música
Vitaminas para mis sentidos
Who doesn't wish this wasn't 10 minutes longer?! I remember seeing this on MTV when it was in it's infantry and hardly heard it afterwards. Bloody shame! Love these lads!
Madness is possibly my favorite band ever and they're music is amazing absolutely superb.
wow I forgot for nearly 20 years how insanely happy this makes me!!!!!!
The greatest ska song of all time! You just want to blast the ever living hell out of it. It's beyond amazing! I don't know how anyone can not like this song.

I have stopped listening to music past the nineties and am working my way back now....thank god there USED to be good music.
I miss all those 80's videos!! they tried to entertain you while you listened.
Suggs is such a cute bastard! I've always loved this band. So many bands take themselves so seriously when they should be having fun . Madness were /are terrific! 💖
An amazing and original sound. 80s on the best!!!
They made music to suit themselves but it's the fact that everyone else loves it too that made them so unbelievably good
My dad used to have the music video tape to One Step Beyond and as a kid I always just sat and watched it. I guessed I thought it was some sort of weird kids show, but this 'bit' was always my favourite! Thanks Dad!
My mum had it too! I was practically raised on it
Back in the day.....saw these guys live.....Complete madness

It's just gone noon
Half past monsoon
On the banks of the river Nile
Here comes the boat
Only half-afloat
Oarsman grins a toothless smile
Only just one more
To this desolate shore
Last boat along the river Nile
Doesn't seem to care
No more wind in his hair
As he reaches his last half mile
The oar snaps in his hand
Before he reaches dry land
But the sound doesn't deafen his smile
Just pokes at wet sand
With an oar in his hand
Floats off down the river Nile
Floats off down the river Nile
It's just gone noon
Half past monsoon
On the banks of the river Nile
Here comes the boat
Only half-afloat
Oarsman grins a toothless smile
Only just one more
To this desolate shore
Last boat along the river Nile

With an oar in his hand
Floats off down the river Nile
Floats off down the river Nile

Brilliant stuff. They made this years ahead of how people dance to gabba (trance/techno) style music.

Charlotte Munroe fantastic Charlotte the music was for real people 😉😉

There's something Monty Python-esque about this video :) :) :)
alworkedup exactly
alworkedup That explains why it's not funny😝...
Dlighted 1 wanker. You must be something else at a party.
Doesn't have enough unladen swallows for that.
Bedad yer Right
no matter how old you are, you just gotta love those Madness boys.
They need to make music videos like this more often!!! This one is so fun just to watch the band mess around.
I love Madness! The dance in this vid is nearly as epic as the one on the bus in Cardiac Arrest.
Epic tune (10/10)......

Saw these guys live tonight. Thought they were brilliant!!! Well done guys :D!
I wish I was part of this video. Looks like they had a blast.
+rockabillylaker Probably a lot of work, with multiple takes.
+alworkedup Well of course in the parts where they're actually playing but the whole congo/dancing act seems like pure one-take improv.
+Br0ccoliface You just pretend play to the recorded version of the track.
+alworkedup you know they were progressively drunk during filming each scene.
great, just great song. the good times... when music was original.
Madness just had this style all their own that pulls the listener in and makes them feel welcome on their magical music carpet ride.
That sax!!! 👌
"This is madness!
- Madness? THIS-IS-MADNESS!!!"
*everyone rolling joints around*
Madness?!THIS-IS-SPARTSKA!!!

This song is in one of the Just Dance games. The sad part was that I was the only one who genuinely enjoyed it because I'm batshit crazy about Ska . . . there wasn't a spread of skanking in the video that the game had in the background xP.
Very underrated track by the band. All you hear on the radio is House Of Fun and It Must Be Love.

One of their greatest
Whenever I'm Down in the Dumps I just Listen to Madness and suddenly I feel so much better !
I appreciated the subtitles since I didn't understand about 50% of the lyrics 30 years ago, and now I finally know what he was singing.
