- Dr Stuart Thickett (University of Tasmania) demonstrates the emulsion polymerization of styrene to form polymer nanoparticles.
100 Reactions for RACI100 is a project launched by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) in celebration of the Institute's centenary (RACI100) in 2017. The series of videos aims to spark an interest and inspire enthusiasm in chemistry - a scientific discipline that plays a vital part in every aspect of our lives.

Excellent Video Thank you .
Thank you Sir
Very useful video
is it possible to create polystyrene nanoparticles infused with a blowing agent (like pentane) for making nano-foam? I believe that for industrial foam production, polystyrene is polymerized in conjunction with pentane to make expandable polystyrene particles. Wonder if this will work for nano styrene particles.
Im trying to make poly acrylic acid emulsion. Can I know detailed ratio of materials and is this procedure can be applied to acrylic acid?
Se puede reciclar poliestireno y destilar obteniéndose estireno , luego aplicar esta técnica , que tiene aplicación ecológica ,gracias por tu vídeo genial .
What is the method to create 2-vinylpyridine styrene copolymer in lab?
So for this reaction in particular oxygen is not an issue?
Many emulsion polimerization reactions require an inett atmosphere. That's why It surprrises me. The easiness.
How long did the reaction take?
can i use the same protocole for pyridine
Hi
I am interested for acrylic styrene production formulation and machine ( binder for paint production water base )
Why you have to do under water bath ?
Would be appreciate if you would be kind enough to make a video of polimerization vinyl acetate monomer to polyvinyl acetate or polymerization stryrene acrylic.thanks.GBU
many thanks for this explanation sir, but how did you dried the emulsion and got the solid polymer? and can you explain the ratio of monomer and initiator? I hope to get the answer. Many thanks sir
Did you get the answer? After polymerization, evaporation and then drying process is logical to obtain dry form?

how do you go from the emulsified product to the solid. just evaporate off the solvent or destabilize the emulsion colloids ?
Did you get the answer? After polymerization, evaporation and then drying process is logical to obtain dry form?
Cool thank you!
Can one make polymer particles up to a mm with this technique?
u can do suspension polymerisation which produces particles of your desired size. Basically u choose an hydrophobic initiator and use less of the sodium dodecyl sulfate.
Thanks , how can I Add 2 or 3 monomers ?
Sir ur number pls
Is this same method for polymerizarion vinyl acetate monomer to polyvinyl acetate (VAC, potassium perlsulfate, SDS)?thanks
Amonium or sodium persulfate use with vam .Potasium activeted upper 80C ,vam polymerization max 75C ussaly .
sir, this video is informative and helpfull
can u please send the pdf of the whole process
Hi sir
@@wallpaperwalaayexpointerio3414 what's your problem
Streyene, potasium persulfate , sodium doedycl sulfate
