    I’m honestly tired of how unsupportive people can be the moment an artist makes sponsored content. You can make videos for FREE, for MONTHS sharing your vulnerabilities, struggles, and things you’ve learned along the way on your journey, and people will wish you well. But once you make a simple 8 minute sponsored video with a partner that is not even that irrelevant to your industry, people turn against you. The support goes out the window the moment artists actually make money.
    This is what keeps artists in an endless loop of not wanting to put themselves out there. Everyone is afraid of looking like a sellout because of people who would rather spread negativity instead of just clicking out of the video. But if you work for a studio, have your project be backed by commercials, that’s okay because you’re not the face of it. You do realize that for an artist to realistically survive on their own they need funding right?
    I feel as though I have always been fair. I don’t ask my viewers for money or use my followers as my direct source of income - so much so I would rather have my etsy shop fail and continue making the majority of my content for free for viewers to watch. I know the path to becoming an independent artist is not easy, so I would never make my work so unaccessible that people would need to start to pay monthly just to watch my videos.
    It’s not like I am selling skinny tea or some overly hyped dangerous product out there. There literally is no upfront cost for anyone to even use a POD service like Printify, until you make an actual sale because guess what - that’s just how business works. It’s also crazy because I literally used POD services like Printify for my actual merch and work before, so there is no lie behind my words and experience here. Check out my etsy shop and you’ll see some products there are print on demand ones.
    Anyway it’s sad artists have to defend themselves like this. I am aware of how much value I have provided for free during times I could definitely be doing other things. Idk why one dedicated sponsored video out of the pool of free shit I make for people suddenly has to be taken so negatively. Personally, I would just click out, skip the section, or wait for the next video!
    And for those who think: Oh, but your followers are just telling you what content they would like to see from you - unfortunately what people express in comments don’t correlate to what performs well. Sometimes you just make sponsored content because you need to be practical at times and accept that you need to LIVE. Life is not a sunshine and rainbow universe where money will fall down on your lap from doing nothing (sadly).
    Viewers who have never been in the creator’s shoes would never understand. But I hope this sheds some light on what indie artists who already get screwed over by big companies have to deal with 👍🏼

      I honestly don't get why you're recieving negative comments for this video. I get that a lot of viewers have a general preference to see unsponsored vids... But I also know that youtube ads alone don't pay much, and for the reach you have doing sponsorships is super reasonable. I've always thought the sponsorships you've done are responsibly selected ones too, that much of your audience would be interested in. And you're always really transparent about why you're doing the sponsorships you've selected. I don't know, part of the issue might be that a lot of people have bad associations with terms like "passive income" and "print-on-demand", associating it with scams and junk online dropshipping. But POD isn't inherently bad at all, and for some artists POD is a godsend. I've ordered a few artist's POD prints in the past, and have been really happy with the quality. Not all of us have the space or time to order, pack, and ship printed goods ourselves. And I've noticed a lot of artists who order, pack, and ship out their own printed goods don't even share what printing services they use, and I'm like, "you know those printers need to stay in business and eat too, right?" I don't, kinda seems like a double-standard to me. Keep doing what you're doing mew, you're awesome.

    These tips are great! I hope you know that most of us don't mind the sponsors and ads. Artists get enough criticism as is just for asking the bare minimum of payment for our work. So I hope you pay no attention to those comments because if they don't like it, they should just click off or move on. I've watched your videos for a few years now and I really love watching your journey and growth. Just keep doing what you're doing!

    I tried both print on demand and having a personal store where I do everything myself and I found that people only bought from my personal store 😄 I think the personal touch means a lot to the people that follow me.

    Don't mind the haters, there are so many people on tiktok/youtube who just shove cheap aliexpress products down their followings throat without any feeling of remorse and they all get loved for it. Yet when a hard working artist like you makes an actual helpful video with helpful tips in it that helps artists and recommends an actual good service (heard a lot of good stuff about printify, ive been thinking if I had to go with either printiful or printify not sure yet) people shit on it. Like girl make that bag and ignore the haters as the haters are probably sour doing a 9-5 office job they don't enjoy doing and spit out their venom to anyone they can get their hands on. The internet has become more and more bitter and at one point you just need to block those jealous hoes out. Much love bish!

    I’m not sure why people are confused that this video is an ad for Printify. You mention it within the first minute of the video 😅 But anyway, this is very helpful to get more insight in what Printify has to offer. I’ve been thinking of ways to not fall in a financial hole but still sell my artwork and this sounds like a good solution.

    been watching you for a long time & will always respect the hustle of making videos of topics that perform better and taking sponsorships!
    me personally i prefer your daily vlog-ish videos with a sprinkle of sketchbook stuff but you'll never see me bitching in the comment section whenever it doesnt happen 😭 stay strong & keep getting paid!

I hadn't heard of Printify before but this looks really handy, especially for a beginner! I'll keep it in mind for sure. I also appreciate the insight provided in your videos. :)

  • @LordHimajin

    Hey guys, just because someone makes a sponsored video and talks about that sponsor doesn't mean the video itself loses authenticity or anything at all. If you think sponsored = fake, you're not making a conscious assessment to arrive to that thought. This video is informational and helpful to those looking for relevant information.
    On another point, if making money as an artist is not relevant subject for you, then art as a business is not for you.
    There are plenty of people that will find this video valuable. Art for art's sake is cool, but as an independent artist, you do not have a team that runs a company. You have to be the producer, manager, director, marketing director, graphic designer, artist, videographer, editor, compositor, etc. etc.
    And lastly, treat others online as a human being. If your opening statement is a negative jab at the individual, that is not an effective communication. Try to hold back on your angst

      @mewTripled  Před měsícem +11

      Yes- you’re right! It’s hard to be into making videos all time 🙂 it’s difficult to always be “on” especially when going through crazy life things and having to still deliver to make that dough for you and your family during hard times!

    • @hannahmoren4161
      @hannahmoren4161 Před měsícem

      @@mewTripled it's probably better then to take a break than to make videos that aren't authentic. If youtube is that big of your biz strategy and you don't like it then maybe it's not working.

    • @mewTripled
      @mewTripled  Před měsícem +12

      Out of curiosity - have you made content for a living before? I totally wish that could be the case where creators can just take a break whenever they don't feel like something create isn't 100% authentic, but I also feel like it is unrealistic to expect every video they created to be 100% authentic.This is 1 dedicated sponsored video out of many more UNSPONSORED / FREE authentic videos I've made. so I'm not sure why the occasional dedicated sponsored video I create has to cause such a ruckus in my community :\ Hope people could understand things from the creators perspective more in the future as it's not a simple black and white situation where we can just stop making videos whenever we just don't "feel" like it. It's a lot more gray area than that!

    I did think this was going to be three *different* business ideas, not all print on demand. Which is fine, but i can see how the title can be misleading

    • @leftyhanded145
      @leftyhanded145 Před měsícem +5

      100%, there was zero significant difference between the 3 ideas they were all basically the same when you boil it down, I think that's part of ppl's (me included) issue

    • @Lovely-rubble
      @Lovely-rubble Před měsícem +1

      I didn't find it misleading. She outlines in the first minute what she's going to talk about in the video, that it can help to focus ones efforts, and that she's going to give ideas within the scope of making print on demand products. Within that scope it is three different ideas, as designing stationary, clothing lines, and products to showcase art for art's sake are 3 very different types of products to design. They aren't perfectly interchangeable.

    • @breakoutthecrxwn5525
      @breakoutthecrxwn5525 Před měsícem +3

      @@Lovely-rubble The design process is different, but the business is all the same - Print to Demand. I don't find anything wrong with Print to Demand, but the title could be "3 Ways to grow your print business" or something. Because it's not three different business ideas.

    • @Lovely-rubble
      @Lovely-rubble Před měsícem +1

      @@breakoutthecrxwn5525 I suppose so yeah, maybe a more specific title would have been better. Personally I don't have an issue with the title, but I see where you're coming from. 😀

    ive liked your past content but tbh there's a difference between "sponsored" and "entire video is just an ad" , this 100% feels like a bait and switch sorry

    • @mewTripled
      @mewTripled  Před měsícem +5

      Sorry not sorry! I make tons of free content for the past many years. If the occasional dedicated sponsored video is really going to trigger people perhaps you genuinely don’t support artists. It’s already hard enough as it is in this current state of the industry and it’s not like I made a video lying or pretending as if it’s not sponsored.

    • @leftyhanded145
      @leftyhanded145 Před měsícem +4

      @@mewTripled fair enough. I know you prob don't care to hear my opinion anymore (fellow artist lol) but I think the confusion stems from...typically a YTber says "thanks for today's sponsor-" does a 1ish min segment for them then continues their video w/o the sponsor- not the entire video. I think that's what is leading some to feeling like I did - we've been taught that "sponsored" means "oh ok, one minute ad then we'll get back to the real video" That's not your fault, but it's not really mine either. Maybe saying something like "the sponsor for the duration of the video" up front? Just so we all understand in clear terms. Hope the video does well for you regardless.

    As an artist trying to build a business I actually like these kind of videos. Find business partners and tools are hard, so see someone show showing in practice how these things really work is very helpful.
    Also it is really nice to see you partnering with relevant companies and growing your content business.
    I'm happy for you! 🫰🏻
